Chapter 75
“Who are you?”
When Thomas didn’t recognize him, the man collapsed and had a fit.
“You bastard! Don’t you remember me?! You son of a bitch! I rotted in prison for five years because of you!”
Thomas stepped on the man’s back so that he could not stand up and escape, and he watched the man throw a fit.
‘Five years.’
Although he still couldn’t remember, it was probably a criminal who he caught in his hometown.
Thomas clicked his tongue.
This man was foolish.
If he was sentenced to prison again for the crime he committed during his time, five years would mean nothing. He wouldn’t be able to get out for at least 50 years.
Revenge crimes had a higher sentence than ordinary crimes. And this criminal tried to harm a knight.
Knighthood was considered quasi-noble.
“Go to hell, you bastard! You don’t know how much I’ve been asking around to find you. I’ve waited so long for this day!”
“You’re too noisy.”
“How the hell did you avoid that surprise attack? I know you’re the most careless person in the world when dealing with a pretty and delicate woman! You shouldn’t have been able to avoid it!”
“Oh, it’s noisy.”
Perhaps, it would be better to knock this guy out now.
As Thomas agonized, he heard a commotion, and the constables rushed in.
“Sir Thomas! No, that man…”
“You’ve arrived. Take them away.”
Thomas left the alley after he handed over the man, who had seen the light of the world again, and the unconscious woman to the constable.
“Huu.”
That was a close call. The effect of the alcohol was now gone.
A sigh automatically escaped from Thomas as he recalled the dizzying moment a moment ago.
‘It would have been a disaster if I had let down my guard…’
Thomas’s steps slowed down and then stopped.
He remembered the words that the man shouted while being held down by his feet.
“I know you’re the most careless person in the world when dealing with a pretty and delicate woman!”
It was an insulting remark, but it wasn’t wrong.
Thomas knew it, too.
He learned from an early age that strong men should protect weak women.
Once he recognized a woman as weak and powerless, it was not easy to change his mind.
In fact, the woman Thomas had seen was overall vulnerable, and not to mention, slender in appearance.
Few people were wary of those weaker than themselves.
What more, what if she was young and pretty?
The vigilance of an energetic and young man would melt away without leaving any form.
If it wasn’t for the Duchess, Thomas would have been careless as usual and would have given the woman’s knife a defenseless vital point.
“…”
So what saved his life today was…
Thomas stood in his spot and didn’t move.
The moonlight poured out like the light of revelation onto his dark, red hair.
* * *
Yelena was in a pleasant mood.
It was because she had a great dream.
She wondered if her husband’s salutation before going to bed had helped her.
For the first time in a while, Yelena’s dream perfectly matched her heart.
In a dream, Yelena met the former Duke and Duchess of Mayhard and their deceased second son.
She had seen their appearances through portraits before, so she instantly recognized their identity as soon as she saw their faces.
Perhaps, because it was a dream, they didn’t die and were still alive.
Yelena found that a good thing and pushed them down the cliff to finish them off.
But surprisingly, they came back alive.
So she ended it again, they came back alive, she finished them off again, they came back alive…
Destroy, annihilate, kill.
‘I sent them to burn at the stake, to drown to death, and the guillotine. What else did I do?’
It seemed that it wasn’t their will to keep returning alive, and later they cried, clung on to her, and pleaded to her to let them go forever.
It was a very exhilarating dream.
Yelena was so refreshed from the morning that she automatically hummed.
Incidentally, the butler she met in the hallway also had a very refreshed expression.
“Ben, did something good occur?”
“Oh, madam, good morning. As soon as Thomas returned from his vacation today, he came to see me a little while ago.”
“However?”
If it was related to Thomas, shouldn’t the expression be the opposite of what she saw now?
Ben then said something unexpected.
“He banged his head on the floor to repent, saying that he deeply regretted his careless and reckless attitude and actions so far.”
“Huh?”
“So I told him not to do it here but to go to the Duke and apologize, and he said he’d already been to his honorable master.”
“Hmm?”
