I’ll Be the Male Leads Sister-in-Law

Chapter 26: IBMLS Ch.26 Care (3)

“I’m your, umm… your princess, I’m here to take care of you. I promise I’m not here to hurt you,” she introduced herself, but due to her own embarrassment, she couldn’t bring herself to say that she was his wife.

When he didn’t respond, she sighed in relief. The basin of water quickly turned brown, and she left the bed to refill it. During this process, there was one thing that she found to be very difficult to do.

It was the chains.

In order to reach the wounds under the chains, she had to exert all of her strength to lift his arms and keep them alleviated as she washed away the blood. Just one round of this was enough to leave her panting and her own arms sore.

Mu Mingtang massaged her arms as she grumbled, “What kind of iron are those chains made of for them to be so heavy?”

She thought about it for a while, and then she looked at Xie Xuanchen’s scarred hands. With such heavy chains shackling him, it was no wonder he was so heavily injured.

A sour feeling suddenly rose in her heart. The young general, who was respected by so many people only a few years ago, was being treated like this now.

After refilling the washbasin several times and even telling the soldiers to boil her another bucket of hot water, she finally finished washing away the blood from his wrists and ankles. Fortunately, he didn’t wake up in the middle of it, and the pavilion was stocked with different medicines.

She carefully sprinkled a type of powdered medicine on his wrists while murmuring, “I can’t imagine how painful these wounds must be. Even though you’re this heavily injured, nobody bothered to bandage them for you. As a man who fights with swords to protect the empire, your hands are absolutely precious.”

Since it was August, she was afraid that wrapping his wounds would suffocate them and cause them to worsen, so she forwent this step. Since his body would remain still while he was in a coma, there should be no need to bandage his wounds as long as she was diligent about cleaning and applying the medicine.

By the time she finished, she was completely exhausted. As she wiped the sweat off her forehead, she couldn’t help but laugh to herself. “After becoming a rich young miss for a few days, even my body’s become more delicate. I can’t believe I’m sweating after doing something this simple.”

During the previous night, she couldn’t sleep well because there were too many preparations to be done for the wedding. After entering the Qiyang Manor, she took it upon herself to clean and take care of Xie Xuanchen, and now, she wanted nothing more than to go to sleep.

However, the floor was now littered with dirty handkerchiefs and messy water stains. A few moments later, she sighed, picked up all of the handkerchiefs, and pulled out some new ones to wipe the floor dry.

Fortunately, there were many errand boys outside who could take out the buckets and the trash for her. Otherwise, she would be awake for the whole night trying to throw everything out.

Once the room was clean, she took out a large red brocade blanket and gently draped it over Xie Xuanchen. As she tucked him in, she sighed, “Fortunately, I don’t have the money to afford such a big house. Otherwise, I would break my back trying to keep it clean.”

Picking up her lantern, she turned back and smiled, “Although you don’t know this, and you probably wouldn’t agree with me either, today is an auspicious day. Newlyweds have to sleep with red blankets so they can live together happily and healthily in the future.”

Once again, there was no reply, but she didn’t care. She slowly extinguished all of the candles in the room and left holding one small lantern to light her way.

She’d made her own room and did not intend to sleep on the same bed as Xie Xuanchen. After all, she was still a young girl. The fact that she had a husband now was already enough to make her bashful, let alone the fact that he was also her savior.

After Mu Mingtang left, the room returned to silence. When she blew out the candles earlier, her eyes were unable to adjust to the darkness, so she was slightly blinded for some time. Naturally, this meant that she also did not notice the slight movement in Xue Xuanchen’s hand.
