Chapter 23: Questions
Chapter 23: Questions
"I'm telling you that it wasn't me that changed it." Ashly continued as she and Kaden walked towards the gym to finalize their group for the exam.
"Then how could it end up like that?" Kaden questioned further.
"I have no clue. I planned to distract the teacher somehow or maybe pay him off after you showed your class, but I didn't expect this to happen for sure." Ashly said making Kaden slightly sweat at her horrible plan of action.
"That's an awful plan!" Kaden said slightly angered that such a plan was what his life potentially rode on.
Ashly just shrugged at his words, "At least your class changed somehow." She said trying to change the subject.
Kaden couldn't help but sigh at her attitude but what she said did have some truth to it but the question remained. Who changed his class for that teacher? Kaden even went as far as to look at his class screen and check all the tabs he had available to see if he had some sort of notification saying something happened, but it did not.
Nothing seemed to be adding up until Kaden and Ashly arrived at the gym, 'Wait a minute. The name of that class is quite similar to Emma's. Her cleaning maid class and my cleaning butler class sound too similar to be true but how would she go about doing that? Matter of fact how did she know I needed it changed in the first place?" Kaden speculated inside his mind. None of his assumptions were proven or even had a spec of evidence besides the similar names, so he kept it to himself.
"Hey, guys!" A voice said taking Kaden out of his thoughts.
'Speak of the devil.' Kaden thought.
Emma and Ken were walking towards both Kaden and Ashly with happiness evident in their eyes, "Have you guys got a group for the exam yet?" Ken asked getting to the point.
"Not yet we assumed we were going to be with you guys, so we haven't found any more people," Ashly answered which made both Emma and Ken sigh with relief.
"Good we thought you may have found another group because we were thinking the same thing," Emma said this time while sneaking a glance at Kaden which didn't go unnoticed by him.
'Maybe she does know something.' Kaden thought.
"Since that makes four of us why don't we go and find another?" Kaden suggested as he saw that others were forming their groups as well in preparation for the exam.
The group agreed to what Kaden said and they began walking as a group around the crowd of people trying to find someone that would fit their group perfectly. Surprisingly many people came up to their group asking to join but none of them had a good personality and a class that would help with the exam. In actuality, the only reason people were coming up to join their team is because of Ken and Emma. The reasoning for Ken is due to the high potential that he showcased during the awakening and the reasoning for Emma being that many people wanted some brownie points with the Johson family.
Eventually, the group found an individual by the name of Timmy. Timmy seemed to be quite timid, but he approached Kaden's group in the hopes of joining because he got kicked out of his other group due to his shy attitude. On the other hand, his class was something quite praiseworthy as he had a swordsman class with a potential of B-. After deliberating for a moment, the group welcomed Timmy with open arms, and they began waiting in the gym for the principal to show up and begin the exam.
However contrary to their expectations it wasn't the principal that arrived it was Mr. Wright. He walked his way onto the stage that was still present and began addressing the crowd of standing students, "Hello everyone thank you for giving me a moment of your time. As you know today will be the day of the exam and that has not changed. However, I do have a small announcement to make. There will be another group of people that will be joining you on your exam. This group of kids was a last-minute addition, but you don't mind that. Due to these new kids also being a part of the exam, we will add one more person to each group. Consider this another one of our lessons, a lesson in being able to adapt to anything."
He then took a deep breath before continuing, "Now, I need all of you to follow me to the field where we will begin the exam and introduce you to your new teammate." Mr. Wright said before walking down the stage and exiting through the back of the gym.
All of the students followed him outside only to see him by himself walking in the wide-open field towards a group of people behind the gym seemingly filled with nothing at all which confused many of the students.
"I see the others group but what about the test?"
"Aren't we supposed to fight beasts?"
Many people spoke their thoughts aloud as they made their way towards the group of people, but their thoughts were soon answered as a hole started to open and expand behind Mr. Wright and the new group before it became at least three football fields long and two football fields wide.
"Holy crap." Kaden muttered to himself and so did many others at the sheer size of the hole.
However, it seemed it wasn't finished as a platform rose from the depths of the hole. It seemed the platform was made out of some kind of metal and the weirdest thing was that each corner of the platform had a large pole with some sort of strange device on top.
'What does that do?' Kaden thought.
"Turn it on." Mr. Wrights voice said not too far ahead of the students.
That's when it happened. The poles on each corner of the platform lit up in a bright flash of white which blinded everyone like with the awakening stone before they opened their eyes to see something amazing. The previous platform that was filled with nothing was now a vast and lush forest filled with greenery.
'Oh so that's what it does.' Kaden thought.
