The moment Xia Xin questioned Jing MO, he felt something in his heart soften. He sighed, closed his eyes, and leaned back into the couch, taking a long pause before he began to speak.
“I’m from the Jing family in Azuralis,” he finally said.
Xia Xin was momentarily stunned. ‘The Jing family in Azuralis? I’d heard of them, but didn’t know much.’
She had a barrage of questions she didn’t voice because she knew, all she had to do was be a good listener.
“You saw me years ago not because I was being bullied. Rather, the people from the Jing family in Azuralis wanted to take me back. I left the city because my philosophies clashed with those of my family,” Jing MO elaborated.
Xia Xin wasn’t entirely surprised. From the grace with which he conducted himself, she could tell he was more than just a popular star. That sort of innate elegance couldn’t be faked. But she hadn’t expected his background to be so grand—belonging to the prestigious Jing family of Azuralis.
Jing MO and Xia Xin spoke for nearly the whole night, though he only told her about some of his past experiences. Many things he kept to himself, knowing that Xia Xin was better off not knowing. The more she knew, the worse it could be for her.
“Is there anything I can do for you, Jing MO?” Xia Xin asked.
Warmth surged within Jing Mo. He looked at Xia Xin, moved. She was the sole willing ear for his burdens, a single ray of light that had shone through the darkness of his past.
“Thank you, Xin,” Jing MO said, suddenly pulling her into a hug.
Xia Xin didn’t struggle, but rather gently patted his back, comforting him.
Just then, the sound of the front door opening broke the moment. Both of them froze as a voice came from behind, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry! I didn’t realize the door was unlocked.”
Sun Hu swallowed hard. He’d returned to take care of some unfinished business and had not expected to walk into this intimate moment.
Both Xia Xin and Jing MO hastily separated. Xia Xin’s cheeks flushed crimson. “We were just talking…” she began, but Sun Hu cut her oft.
“I know, I know. You were just hugging, just talking. Nothing more. I saw nothing. I’ll leave now,” he said, turning to go.
The blush on Xia Xin’s face deepened. Sun Hu’s explanation seemed to make things worse, not better.
“Come back here,” Jing MO commanded, his expression darkening.
Reluctantly, Sun Hu returned, sensing that perhaps there was something more serious at hand.
“What is it?” Jing MO inquired.
Jolted, Sun Hu nearly forgot why he’d come back. “Ah, right. About the show. We will continue filming tomorrow, live, just like before.”
“Can’t we take a break for a few days?” Jing MO frowned. “After everything Xia Xin’s been through, she needs rest.”
“The director says the show’s too hot right now; we have to strike while the iron’s hot,” Sun Hu explained.
“Fine. You could have just called,” Jing MO snapped.
“There’s another matter, concerning Xia Xin. I’d prefer to discuss it without you,” Sun Hu added, his face turning serious.
Jing MO wasn’t keen on leaving. Xia Xin sensed his reluctance and whispered in his ear, “I’ll fill you in later. Please go to your room.”
For some reason, hearing her say “Go to your room” gave him an unusual sensation, and his cheeks tinged with color. Afraid of betraying his feelings, he swiftly stood and retreated to his room.
“What’s the matter concerning me?” Xia Xin asked Sun Hu.
“The internet is buzzing, claiming you’re a Beast Master,” he dropped the bombshell.
Since leaving the show, Xia Xin hadn’t checked her phone and was utterly unaware of this revelation. Upon hearing the term ‘Beast Master’, her eyes widened in disbelief. Her first thought was, ‘I’m doomed.’
“Exactly, it’s absurd. If I didn’t know you, I’d consider it a ludicrous rumor too. But you can communicate with Bobo, with that stubborn mule on set, and even ride a lion. So, I had to ask what’s going on?” Sun Hu probed..
