Chapter 30: The Unfortunate One
Chapter 30: The Unfortunate One
"No! Don't come here!" Ina shouted as she waved her hands in panic. She knew if Bari kept on running towards her, then the Dreadling would attack all three of them, and she wouldn't be able to save Silvi.
Bari was not in the mental state to process Ina's words. All he wanted was to get away from this frightening creature behind him, and unconsciously he felt it a bit more safe to run towards Ina, thinking that she could help him out.
But alas, he didn't think before that Ina already had her hands full with taking care of Silvi.
Ina already stopped running as she saw the Dreadling was just a few meters behind Bari, and it would only be a few more seconds till it catches up to them.
She pushed off Silvi to the other side and tried to pick up her arrow from her quiver quickly.
"Run!!" Bari shouted as he got close to Ina, but unfortunately, the Dreadling was only one meter behind Bari.
Seeing that the Dreadling was about to pounce upon Bari, Ina came in between Bari and the Dreadling with the bow and arrow in hand.
But she could barely aim her arrow with fear and panic, dulling her reflexes and the Dreadling, getting a new target pounced upon her!
*Kreeee~*
"NO!!" Ina cried hysterically as the Dreadling latched onto her, bringing her down while biting onto her soft flesh with its powerful and sharp teeth.
"INA!!"
"Ina, no!!"
"KILL THAT MONSTER!"
Nena, Alv, Cayden...all three of them felt their hearts stopping upon seeing Ina go down from the Dreadling's assault.
Each of them cried and roared as they rushed towards Ina to kill the Dreadling that had sunk its venomous teeth into her shoulders.
They all saw how poisonous and terrifying its venom was when it simply fell on one's skin. So they did not dare to imagine what would happen to a person if the venom was brutally injected into their body.
The injuries sustained because of its bite would be not at all dangerous compared to its venom. And this was the exact reason why all three youngsters felt their hearts writhing upon seeing the Dreadling biting Ina.
They didn't dare to think whether Ina would even survive from this. No, it was more like they refused to think about anything unfortunate.
At this moment, all they thought about was to save Ina by killing the Dreadling as fast as possible.
But still, there were still a few meters away from Ina, and they saw how pitifully she was crying and desperately struggling to shrug off the menacing monster atop her.
Bari was too scared to turn around and assess what was going on behind him. All he cared about was running as far away as possible before the monster caught up to him.
He was still thinking that he was being chased by the Dreadling when in reality, it was the unfortunate Ina who became the new prey of the Dreadling.
Silvi was lying on the side in a senseless state, feeling her mind becoming fuzzy due to the intense pain stemming from her right arm. She wasn't even aware of what was going on around her or the fact that Ina was under attack from the Dreadling.
Arion, who had been long forgotten by both the Dreadling and others, watched what was happening before him with widened eyes.
Since he and Ina were not that close, he was able to think rationally and noticed how Ina's struggles were becoming weaker and weaker and how blood was gushing out from her shoulder profusely.
He was no doctor or someone with medical expertise, but even a commoner could see that she wouldn't last long, especially with how no one present here had any means to counteract the Dreadling's venom.
Arion thought about Mei, but she was nowhere nearby and wouldn't have even known about an attack taking place here. In fact, he doubted if any experts even knew what was going on here since they were all busy taking care of the Dreadling threat in the neighboring ward.
And since this was an open field situated a bit far from the main region of the ward, no one else was here.
Still, even though Arion wasn't close to Ina didn't mean that he didn't want to help her. He was thankful to these youngsters since he would have been a goner if it weren't for them protecting him before.
But in his current state, he was well aware of how helpless he was to help anyone, let alone help himself.
However, he hoped that Ina somehow survives, no matter how minute the chances were.
Cayden and the two girls ran as fast as their legs could carry, and within just a few seconds, they reached where Ina was.
"Get off from her, you monster!" Cayden bellowed as he struck down on the back of the Dreadling.
*Splitch~*
*KREEEE!!!*
Cayden's rage took over his fear as he plunged his sword through the back of the Dreadling, making it let out a loud and hoarse screech of pain.
Dark red blood gushed out from its body as Cayden's sword punctured its back, thus making it release its teeth from Ina's shoulder.
"Ughh!" Cayden had to apply a lot of strength to remove his sword back as he wanted to strike it again before it recovered from his blow.
As soon as Cayden pulled his sword out, the Dreadling regained its freedom of movement and quickly turned around to spit out its venom towards Cayden.
"No, you don't!" Alv reacted fast enough to strike down on the head of the Dreadling with his axe.
But the Dreadling was even faster and quickly backtracked, but to its surprise, Nena struck its back with her spear, making it root to the ground.
Cayden and Alv's eyes shone with killing intent as they didn't dare to let go of this golden opportunity and struck the head of the Dreadling at the same time.
