Chapter 27: A Deadend Plan
Chapter 27: A Deadend Plan
"Is there any way to get a drop of blood from a Dreadling with the Darkness Aspect?" Arion asked curiously.
Cayden had a blinking expression, "Arion, are you serious? A Dreadling with the Darkness Aspect is usually scarier than the others. Even if a Sentinel was able to kill one, what do you want to do with the blood of such a filthy being?"
The rest were puzzled, too, wondering what made Arion come up with such a question.
Arion put up an awkward smile and said, "It's nothing. I was feeling bored and thought that I could do some experiments."
"Brother, you really couldn't think of any other experiments? I wouldn't even dream of touching them," Alv said with a winced expression while Bari only wrinkled his nose with a hint of fear as if he was spooked out just by thinking about it.
These two were sixteen-year-olds and were brothers.
"Arion, you should never think of such dangerous experiments no matter how bored you are," Silvi said in a concerned tone. She was the eldest among the girls, aged seventeen years old, and had her hair pony-tailed.
"Y-Yes...Arion...maybe you can think of better things if you are bored," Nena added in a meek voice, who had a petite build, which might make people mistake her for a twelve-year-old instead of a fifteen-year-old.
Ina, who looked the most serious of them all, nodded without any expression on her face. She was the most silent of the group and the second strongest, only a half step away from the tenth cycle of the Prana Binding Stage.
Arion already realized how stupid his request seemed and that even if he came up with his dangerous and crazy idea, it was useless since no one would let him even touch anything that belonged to a Dreadling.
Everyone's hatred and anger against the Dreadlings were unparalleled, and Arion could feel it since, including him, everyone else was under the constant threat of them. People were dying every day, and they have lost count of the number of times they had lost their friends and relatives to such dreadful monsters.
Many have dreamed of eradicating them forever. But it only remained a dream since apparently, the number of these Dreadlings was endless, and they also had no idea where these creatures really originated from.
The terrifying thing was how people were eaten alive and the excruciating death they would have to suffer, unable to have a quick death.
Fok Grove Ward has been peaceful ever since many retired experts moved over here. People believed that the Dreadlings were scared off by their collective presence since it would be futile to attack such a place.
Still, the adults in this ward trained their children who were capable of becoming Defiers. They also sent them out to receive tutelage from other experts and learn more about the Dreadlings and how to fight them.
These six youngsters standing before Arion had some knowledge about Dreadlings and even saw their corpses but never fought them.
All six were preparing to get themselves enrolled at good training schools or organizations to become a Ranger and then move their way upwards from there.
Cayden was definitely ready and excited to join one since he already fulfilled all the requirements for joining one. But he wanted to join with the other five and wanted to wait for them to catch up, especially Nena.
Even though she was only fifteen years old, she was ahead of other pseudo-Defiers of her age since she was already at the fourth cycle of the Prana Binding Stage.
Once she enters the fifth cycle of the Prana Binding Stage, she would be ready to join along with her friends.
All these six youngsters were children of retired experts, so their foundation wasn't shallow, nor were their talents.
They would surely stand out among other Quasi-Defiers from a common background.
The adults soon left in a hurry, as if the things in the neighboring Ascot Ward were getting more serious.
Arion had never seen the usually cheery and casual adults like Yuro putting up grave expressions and leaving for a fight.
In fact, they were not obligated to fight since these retired experts had done enough during their prime and were supposed to nurture the next generation of Defiers instead of fighting.
However, just like Yuro said, if the threat in the Ascot Ward was not neutralized then, Fok Grove Ward might be the Dreadling's next target.
The youngsters saw the adults leaving and felt bored standing simply.
Cayden asked the others, "Do you guys want to practice some moves in the Pleasant Meadow?"
The others nodded in an eager manner since no matter how many times they walked through that meadow; the fresh air one could bask in was very refreshing. That was their usual place to practice their fighting skills since their mental state would be at its best in such a serene place.
"Arion, you also come with us. It will take your mind away from unnecessary things," Cayden said as he moved over to hold the handle of Arion's wheelchair.
Arion was about to refuse, but then he saw others encouraging him to come with their expressions and sighed. He also felt that he should have some fresh air and forget about the unfortunate event that he experienced today.
Who knows, maybe he might get some ideas while relaxing....or so he thought.
Cayden pushed Arion's wheelchair while the others chatted and followed behind him. Since the Fok Grove Ward was small, it only took them fifteen minutes of walking to reach the Pleasant Meadow, named as such due to how a person would feel as they took a stroll through this place.
They also picked their weapons on the way, with Cayden carrying a longsword behind his back, an axe each for the two brothers, bow and arrow for the serious looking Ina, daggers for the eldest girl Silvi and a spear with a sharp blade for the youngest girl Nena.
Cayden left Arion in a good spot and let him have some time to himself while he and the others separated a short distance away and began to practice on their own with some scarecrows-like figures as targets.
Arion was watching the setting sun as his mind went deep into his thoughts.
~Rrrbbb ~Rrbbbb
But suddenly, he came out of his reverie when he felt his wheelchair shaking along with the ground.
And as seconds passed, the shaking seemed to get more intense, and Arion's eyes narrowed with apprehension.
"What the hell is going on" Arion mumbled as even his whole body began to shake along with his wheelchair.
