Chapter 18: Hunters
Chapter 18: Hunters
Diether entered the Hunter's Association's building.
He was expecting that the place was filled with various people discussing their hunt or probably drinking some ale and having a good time at this place.
However, as soon as he entered, he realized that the place was luxurious. It felt like he visited a noble's house filled with expensive furniture and decorations.
The vase near the entrance, the painting hanged at the wall, the human sculpture standing beside the request board, the clean and glossy tiles, the clean and painted blue walls, and the beautiful lady standing behind the counter, change Diether's opinion with the Hunter's Association.
Aside from this lady, there were also two more people in the building.
The two were men resting at the couch reserved for hunters. They only glance at him momentarily before going back to their conversation.
"Hello, young man. Are you looking for someone?"
The lady politely asked Diether. She wore simple but clean white clothes matching her pale white skin and her hair was even tied in a bun making her look even more professional. Her mole at the lower left of her mouth just added to her attractiveness.
"No, I'm here to register as a hunter..."
The lady blinked for a moment as she processed the words of this 10-year-old kid. She maintained her smile as she has experienced weirder things than this.
"Of course, you can register but there will be a fee of 1 silver coin to take the examinations."
"Eh? There's a fee?"
"Yes... If you have a recommendation from any officials working at the Association, then you wouldn't need to pay this fee."
"I see. Then I'll have to pay... May I ask what other benefits I would get if I passed the exam?"
"Mhmm... Let's see... I can just give you these notes but since I have nothing to do in the meantime, let me discuss it with you."
The lady smiled at Diether as she seated comfortably behind the counter.
"Do you see that request board? If a hunter can complete the missions requested on that board, they can take the reward placed on that. It was a quicker way to earn money although it can be dangerous depending on the mission. Aside from that, you will be allowed to browse information depending on your rank within the Association. Don't underestimate the information you can get within the Association as we have branches throughout the whole continent..."
"Hmm... It is really amazing... But I heard about these already... Uhmmm... How about the Magic Weapons?"
"Oh, Magic Weapons? Of course, you will be allowed to purchase a Common or a Unique rank Magic Weapons once you've passed. If you want to obtain better qualities of these Magic Weapons or Magic Equipment, you have to work hard to increase your rank within the Association..."
"Thank you... I would like to register... Here's one silver coin..."
Diether brought the coin to the counter as the lady felt that the kid was wasting his money. A silver coin isn't a small amount to any kids living in this village.
After all, it can feed them for several days.
Sigh~
"Are you sure? Once you started the examination, you wouldn't get any refund..."
The lady reminded her kindly.
The two men talking at the lounge also stopped momentarily as they listened to their conversation.
"Hey, kid! Do you want to beat someone up? Just give me that coin instead of wasting that on the exam... I'll help you!"
"Hahaha! That's right! Let us help you instead!"
They probably thought that he wanted to register at the association to either have a backer or to get revenge.
It was common for kids to scare their friends by saying that they know someone in the association. It would earn them some respect and scare the other kids from bullying him.
After all, only those fit and strong can join here.
Diether ignored the two as he nodded seriously to the beautiful lady.
"Fine! Fill this up and I'll call the examiner."
The lady placed a paper in front of him and entered the door behind her as she realized that the kid was adamant of wasting his money.
Diether knows how to read and write so it wasn't a problem to fill this up.
There was a quill pen at the counter so he immediately picked it up and answered the paper.
He writes down his simple information like his name, gender, favorite weapon, character reference, and he also needs to confirm that he was not a member of the Arcanist's Association.
"Character reference?"
Diether was a bit unsure what to put in here so he waited for the lady to come back. It didn't take long before she appears again.
"After you finish filling that up, you can enter at the left door to take the exam..."
The lady smilingly said as she pointed at the wooden red door on his left.
"Thank you, lady... In the meantime, may I clarify this character reference?"
"Oh, you can just put the name of any friends or family if you have. In case you were gone missing, news of your death, or if we need to find you, we will try to get in touch with them to deliver the news. You can just put their name and location, that would be enough..."
"I see..."
Diether decided to place the name of his mother but seeing that it has three spaces for it, he thought for a moment and added Yasmin and Rina on it.
Since he was living here in the village, if anything happens to him, it would be best if someone will be informed so they can free the room he occupies.
As for Rina, it was because she didn't want her to wait for him to visit their place if in case he died while in a mission.
Diether didn't forget the lady he or his master saved from the assassins and in fact, he was hoping to meet them again but in that time, he wanted to be capable on his own.
"Hmm... Diether Luxford, huh. You can now enter the room. By the way, you can just call me lady Han if you passed the exam today."
"Hehe... I will pass this exam, lady Han..."
Diether answered as he confidently entered the room.
