I have Nine Lives

Chapter 141: Peace breaks like glass

Chapter 141: Peace breaks like glass

Felix didn't really know what to say in this situation, but he knew that he had to comfort Lindo somehow. His wife died in his arms, and he was left alone to take care of their newborn baby.

Luckily the baby was ok and healthy even though it also seemed to have felt its mother passing away. And then becoming both angry and sad.

Before Felix could come forward and say some words, Siracha beat him to the punch as he patted Lindo's shoulder and shook his head.

"I'm sorry Lindo, but it seems this is the fate of our family Manitola even gave birth to a boy. This also indicates whoever will love him in the future will die after they give birth to his progeny."

"I don't believe this... I can't believe this, is this the reason my mother also died? Why are we plagued by this curse?"

Siracha shook his head as he said:

"I'm not sure either. This could date back to our ancestors swearing upon our bloodline or something similar while I did talk with them through meditation, they never told me anything about such a situation."

"What does this even mean... why us?? Why????"

Lindo felt totally betrayed by both his ancestors and the goddess of charm and illusion. They were both beings that he could never rely on again from now on.

Before this incident happened, Lindo would have never thought of desecrating the gods or his ancestors.

But now, things were different, after the love of his life had been claimed by something that could have been easily avoided and if these two beings didn't work in tandem to make things hard for them...

There would have never been such a situation!

The combination of the curse coming from their ancestors and the withdrawal of the blessing on Manitola made him hate those two to the bone!

The fact that the goddess could have done anything and Manitola would have survived, but she didn't and it made Lindo's eyes open as he realized that the gods were cold beings with no emotions, who only did things that benefitted them, and them alone.

He wanted to do anything but he knew how feebly weak he was. And who even knew how to get to the realm of gods?

Even if he had enough strength to challenge the gods, there was no way he would be able to reach them as not even the gods themselves knew how to leave the place they were in.

Lindo sulked while rocking his child gently. He couldn't even look down at Manitola cooling corpse as he didn't feel that he deserved to look her directly in the still opened eyes.

Siracha came closer to him and after that, he put his hand over her eyes closing them.

"We should prepare for the funeral..."

Lindo didn't seem ready to let her go as he finally glanced down at her still body. If you excluded her pale face she looked really peaceful. Seemingly as if he was sleeping.

Lindo put his hand one more time into hers before letting go as he knew that there was no way for her to come back, she had died thoroughly, without a seed of doubt.

Normally in this situation, Felix's ability would have captured her soul, but something was different this time as Felix didn't feel any new soul being dragged into his mental palace and absorbed by his ability.

He didn't understand what happened, but he was glad her soul didn't get absorbed, Lindo was destroyed by her passing, and if he would have ever found out that her soul had been absorbed by Felix, he didn't know how things would have gone.

Felix wasn't sure what to do in this situation so he just stood there awkwardly as he waited for a few more minutes before coming forward and patting Lindo's leg.

"I'm sorry for what happened... who would know that childbirth is so dangerous?"

Lindo shook his head as he said:

"Normally childbirth shouldn't be dangerous, but It must be because our child is a hybrid."

The child in Lindo's arms stood there neatly as he got tired again and he slept soundly, even though the loss of his mother pained him, he still had to do what his body told him, and he wasn't even more than a few tens of minutes old, so he got knocked out pretty quickly.

"Ah Felix, I wanted to have you see a happy family with a new member, but even though we gained one, we also lost one today."

"Well, there isn't much we can do anymore. So Lindo what are we supposed to do now?"

Felix had never been to a funeral before, so he didn't know what they needed to do.

"This isn't our job anymore. Grandfather will have to call the death singers to prepare her body for the burial and we will only have to attend."

Lindo's voice started to tremble the moment he mentioned the burial part, it seemed that while he held strong. He didn't want to separate himself from her.

"You two should go as it's not a good omen for the ex-husband to see the corpse of his wife being prepared by the death singers."

Lindo started to leave, but before he fully left the room, he took one last glance at Manitola's corpse before sighing and shaking his head sorrowfully.

A happy occasion became a sad one.

Felix knew that leaving Lindo alone would be rude, so he walked with him towards his house.

Some people looked at Lindo and wanted to congratulate him for his baby, even though most people didn't know where Manitola was going to give birth as months passed most people realized that Manitola was pregnant when they took walks in the capital.

However, seeing his sad look while he held the baby to his chest made the others think about what could have happened and stopped coming towards him.

Their trip back was uneventful as they entered Lindo's house. Lindo settled the child into the crib that they bought for him together while more tears started to slowly drip down his face.

Felix comforted him to the best of his ability, as a cat, he had the ability to drain the sadness from others with his aura, it was a natural talent that he didn't need to learn for it to be exhibited at its full potential.

Felix's sole presence made Lindo feel a little better as he looked down at his child sleeping soundly. he smiled for a bit as he saw the resemblance of Manitola in him.

He was still sad, but his emotions were becoming stable now.

"Are you ok now?"

Felix asked worriedly as he didn't want Lindo to do something crazy now that he lost Manitola.

"Yeah I'm ok, I'm ok. Actually, it would be better for you to leave us alone for now. Just come when Manitola's funeral will be held."

Something seemed to have changed in Lindo as he looked at Felix.

Felix could see it in his eyes, he was more confident but also had a resolve to do something that he proposed to himself now, there were also some flames burning deeply in his eyes, but he didn't know where that came from.

Felix then left as he didn't want to anger Lindo as he seemed different now.

He sighed as he walked the path he usually took to get to the inn, which was now his permanent house when he lived in the capital.

This event was unforgivable for Felix as he never thought that Manitola would die in such a way and so quickly to boot.

After he got back to the inn, he decided to sleep so he could stabilize his tumultuous emotions as well.

The moment he closed his eyes, he found himself in his mindscape...

Aaltarox's voice was heard in his mind soon after:

"Long time no see, Felix."

It was indeed a long time for a mortal, but for a God, it could have been even a few seconds in their lifetime.

"It's been indeed a long time, but why have you decided to talk with me now?"

"Well, I have some things to say about the death of your friend's wife."

"I understand from what I saw that he has thoughts of breaching the godly realm we live in and kill the goddess of illusion and charm, which would be fine with me."

"However this is an ordeal that never happened before, even we don't know how to leave the place we are in, so I think you should tell your friend to give up on his fantasy and live his life for his kid, the kids' talent ins monstrous, and I would have wanted to take him as my champion as well if I didn't have you."

"Anyways, this isn't the sole reason I decided to contact you. The secondary reason is that the humans had poked a hornet nest in their intergalactic conquering events, and your planet has been targeted."

"It won't take much time before the battlefield that's in the outer space lower itself down to the planet, and you aren't strong enough to do anything to them considering how strong you are now."

"As a friendly advice, I think you should seek the help of the humans as they have all of the breathing techniques stored in their database, meaning that if you work with them, you would be able to break through into the green aura rank with all of the techniques at the same time!"

"You should have realized from what I said, the reason for the humans' immense strength is that they have access to all of the breathing techniques!"
