Chapter 39
C39 – You Really dare to Kill Him
Upon hearing her words, Zhou Jibo grasped the gravity of the situation.
Despite facing death, Zheng Fanshuang couldn’t shake off a lingering sense of unwillingness. The deep-seated animosity between the Zheng and Zhou families had led to her brother’s demise, and her return to the Zheng family seemed impossible. Thus, she remained with the Zhou family, relegated to the role of a maid.
“I didn’t protect her adequately this time. Her injury is my responsibility, so I’ll ensure she receives better treatment,” Zhou Jibo resolved, as he administered the detoxification pill to Zheng Fanshuang.
The pill’s effects took hold, and color returned to Zheng Fanshuang’s cheeks. An hour later, black blood oozed from her wound, followed by fresh red blood, signaling the complete eradication of the poison.
Fully conscious again, she awkwardly expressed her gratitude to Zhou Jibo, adding, “Young Master, please disregard my earlier ramblings. You’ve saved my life once more, and serving you as a maid is the least I can do in return.”
“There’s no need for that,” Zhou Jibo replied. “You were injured on my account. From now on, just call me Jibo. You’re no longer a maid but an ordinary member of the Zhou family. It’s neither advantageous nor detrimental, but you must stay by my side and not venture out on your own.”
Hearing this, Zheng Fanshuang’s spirits soared. “Yes, that’s wonderful! Jibo!”
After all, she was the Zheng family’s daughter and had never truly adapted to a servant’s life.
“Are you able to walk?” Zhou Jibo inquired.
Zheng Fanshuang nodded, stretching her limbs. Apart from a slight tingling, she felt no discomfort.
Zhou Jibo escorted her back to the room where Wang Sibo had been.
Wang Sibo, Yan Yuanlu, and Wang Xuelan were pleasantly surprised to see Zhou Jibo and Zheng Fanshuang return unharmed. Jiao Lexin exclaimed in disbelief, “How is this possible? The detoxification powder shouldn’t neutralize the Golden Thread Snake’s venom!”
Impatiently, Wang Sibo snapped, “Quiet, fool! Don’t you realize the trouble you’ve caused? Young Master Zhou only needed the detoxification powder to temporarily contain the poison. He has other, more sophisticated means of detoxification beyond your comprehension.”
Upon hearing those words, Yan Yuanlu’s face lit up with sudden understanding, while Wang Xuelan gazed at Zhou Jibo with eyes full of admiration.
“Zhou Jibo, you’re incredibly skilled!”
Zhou Jibo acknowledged them with a slight nod and turned his attention to Jiao Lexin. “I warned you from the start that your behavior would bring disaster upon the Jiao family. You don’t truly care for Wang Xuelan; you’re only after the benefits from Master Wang. Why not simply ask Master Wang to take you on as a disciple instead of resorting to these extremes?”
“If your aim was to win Wang Xuelan’s favor, and you had known when to stop, that would have been one thing. But to lose your senses and contemplate murder? Jiao Lexin, your arrogance is your downfall. You’ve made it clear that you no longer deserve to live.”
Jiao Lexin, still in disbelief, responded, “You’re not seriously suggesting you want to kill me, are you? The Zhou family doesn’t even boast a single Innate Stage Warrior, yet you dare to threaten me? We have four Innate Stage Warriors in the Jiao family.”
Without hesitation, Zhou Jibo drew his sword, resting the tip at Jiao Lexin’s crown.
Realizing the gravity of the situation, Jiao Lexin’s voice trembled. “You truly intend to kill me? Over an injured servant?”
Zhou Jibo saw no remorse in Jiao Lexin, only defiance.
With a swift extension of his sword, a chilling aura enveloped the blade. Ice crystals formed on Jiao Lexin’s face, his eyes glazed over, devoid of life.
Zhou Jibo sheathed his sword as Jiao Lexin’s wound crystallized, leaving behind no trace of blood.
“Kindly have the Myriad Treasure Auction House return the body to the Jiao family,” Zhou Jibo instructed. “And inform them that should they seek vengeance, they can find me in Icefair.”
Yan Yuanlu rose to his feet promptly. “Certainly, Young Master Zhou. I will ensure it is taken care of.”
With a nod of acknowledgment, Zhou Jibo took his leave from Wang Sibo, Wang Xuelan, and Xiang Yongming. Accompanied by Zheng Fanshuang, he departed with the twenty sets of Element Gathering Powder he had purchased that day.
Wang Sibo remarked after his departure, “The Jiao family would be wise not to pursue revenge. Young Master Zhou’s restraint is nothing short of generous.”
Yan Yuanlu suddenly spoke up, “Master Wang, is it possible that you’ve misjudged the situation? Upgrading a Yellow Rank weapon to Profound Rank is difficult, but not entirely impossible. Could it be that the Holy Land is backing Zhou Jibo?”
“It might not necessarily be the Holy Land,” Wang Sibo replied gravely, “but perhaps something even more formidable. It’s certainly beyond what we can imagine.”
“That sounds a bit alarmist, don’t you think?” Yan Yuanlu responded with a hint of skepticism.
Wang Sibo offered a cryptic smile. “I assure you, I’m not being alarmist. However, there are more secrets I’m not at liberty to disclose.”
Privately, Wang Sibo mused, He didn’t just enhance a Yellow Rank weapon to Profound Rank, but to Earth Rank! I can’t reveal this secret so casually; otherwise, you’d hold Young Master Zhou in even higher regard than I do.
Yan Yuanlu was taken aback and grew more doubtful. He reassured himself, Regardless, our Myriad Treasure Auction House stays out of such conflicts. My role is simply to convey Zhou Jibo’s message to the Jiao family. Beyond that, it’s not my concern.
Whether his background is formidable or not, what bearing does it have on the Myriad Treasure Auction House?
From the side, Wang Xuelan chimed in, “Grandpa, what’s the secret about Zhou Jibo? You can tell me!”
With a smile, Wang Sibo answered, “A secret wouldn’t be a secret if I shared it, now would it? By the way, what’s your impression of Zhou Jibo?”
Blushing slightly, Wang Xuelan demurred, “He’s quite nice. He even complimented me on my looks.”
A glimmer of realization crossed Wang Sibo’s eyes. So that’s why Young Master Zhou and Xuelan seemed so jovial together—he genuinely finds her attractive.
Yet inwardly, he cautioned himself, We should still keep our distance for the time being.
Zhou Jibo’s mysterious background and the Zheng family’s powerful patron—the Shrine of Astral Radiance—are not to be underestimated. They’ve been known for heinous acts like decimating entire cities. Getting entangled in a conflict at that level could have grave repercussions.
He decided to bide his time.
An hour later, the Glorious House’s shopkeeper burst into the Swan Goose Inn with seven or eight men, setting off a wave of commotion and speculation both inside and outside the establishment.
Shortly thereafter, a cold, rigid body was carried out, and word spread like wildfire.
At the Swan Goose Inn, Zhou Jibo had slain Jiao Lexin, the heir of the powerful Jiao family from Basinpond!
The news sent shockwaves through the entire Icefair, jolting all the Warriors who heard it. The Jiao family was a formidable force capable of leveling Icefair City itself, boasting four Innate Experts—more than all the Innate Experts within the city combined. And yet, Zhou Jibo had brazenly killed their scion?
Some speculated that Zhou Jibo had lost his mind, recklessly lashing out as he faced imminent destruction after crossing the Shrine of Astral Radiance.
Others argued that it was a bold display of confidence; if Zhou Jibo didn’t fear the Shrine of Astral Radiance, why would he fear the Jiao family of Basinpond?
Amidst the uncertainty, Lang Shen, the Castellan of Icefair, and the Yu family Patriarch convened a special meeting to deliberate over the incident.
