Chapter 543: 543: Smoke Bomb
Chapter 543: Smoke Bomb
Song Jian was caught in a pincer attack between the wounded Wild King Bee boss in front and the level-30 Death’s Scythe assassin pursuing from behind.
“Go to hell!” Kun Jue revealed himself, but instead of retreating, he charged like a warrior towards Song Jian, his dagger slashing towards Song Jian’s neck like a hunter’s fang.
Song Jian saw a flash of white light and quickly raised his sword to block. With a “clang”, the dagger was stopped inches from his face. A dark green flash crossed the blade of the dagger and a nauseating stench drifted from it.
Song Jian’s heart sank. The dagger was poisoned!
As Kun Jue’s dagger was almost knocked away, he stabilized it with effort. He felt a numbness in his arms and was taken aback. Although Song Jian had hidden all his attributes, they were still revealed under Kun Jue’s inspection skill. Song Jian was only level 26, four levels lower than him, giving Kun Jue a psychological advantage. However, during their collision, Kun Jue discovered that Song Jian’s strength had far surpassed his own, causing his face to darken.
However, the battle-hardened Kun Jue did not feel discouraged. Many of his assassination targets had greatly exceeded his own power, but in the end, they were all killed by him. Such a small surprise was nothing to Kun Jue.
Like a swallow, he suddenly flipped and stabbed at the back of Song Jian’s head. This was one of Kun Jue’s signature attacks, the Side Flip Chisel Attack, a rare skill owned by assassins. It was a reward he obtained after laboriously accomplishing a special task.
Such tasks were so rare that they did not come across by every one in a thousand assassins, and perhaps only one or two in a hundred who received such a task could complete it and receive the reward. Kun Jue was one of them. This unexpected move had turned defeat into victory many times for him.
However, just then, Song Jian surged forward, his long sword cutting down violently, causing Kun Jue to miss. Realizing Song Jian’s move, Kun Jue hesitated for a moment before understanding that Song Jian was using a skill that forced a displacement, evading his fatal strike.
The Broken Wing Dance!
After Song Jian made a vacant slash in front, he immediately turned around and slashed at Kun Jue.
Clang, clang~
Reacting swiftly, Kun Jue used his dagger to block, leaning back like a willow leaf to offset the force of the blow. Two numbers over thirty floated above his head, signifying the damage he had taken.
“The opponent’s damage is too high. Even though I successfully blocked it, I still got hurt.” Kun Jue’s heart sank. He had underestimated his opponent and thoughts of a thousand mile escape arose in his mind.
In truth, Kun Jue should have retreated immediately after Song Jian discovered him and broke his invisibility status using Sword Qi. This was a basic instinct of an assassin — when a strike misses, retreat thousands of miles.
Song Jian’s level 26 status misled Kun Jue, making him overconfident and causing him to believe he could kill Song Jian in a direct fight, even if he didn’t get the first strike.
But the ensuing confrontation went beyond Kun Jue’s expectations. Song Jian’s strength attribute completely dominated his own despite being four levels lower. Kun Jue noticed for the first time that there seemed to be something wrong with the information on Song Jian.
At this point, if Kun Jue had given up the assassination and retreated immediately, Song Jian would have had to deal with the attacks of the Poisonous King Bee and probably wouldn’t have pursued him. Kun Jue only needed to regain Song Jian’s information and form a new assassination plan. However, he decided to take the chance, believing that his assassination experience could help him overcome this little setback.
However, when Song Jian’s formidable damage was laid bare before Kun Jue’s eyes, it was like a bucket of cold water poured on him from head to toe. The chilling feeling made him feel as if he were standing naked in the Siberian wind.
“Danger!” This thought flashed through Kun Jue’s mind. He was ready to retreat.
Just then, a burst of Qi exploded from Song Jian’s long sword. Kun Jue felt a loss of control over his body, which was launched into the air, now weightless.
“Damn it, how did this happen!” Kun Jue’s face turned ghastly pale, cold sweat dripping down his cheeks.
“It doesn’t matter. Even if he takes this opportunity to attack me, it would only result in serious injury. He can’t kill me. I can use Doppelganger Illusion and Aurora Shadow to escape safely.” Kun Jue comforted himself internally. Even though he had lost control of his body, he quickly formulated a number of escape plans should he regain control. He had confidence to escape.
Just then, Kun Jue realized that Song Jian did not continue to attack him but moved to the side.
“Why did he not take this golden opportunity to severely injure me?” Kun Jue was puzzled. Although he didn’t know why, he felt that there was a bigger threat waiting for him.
As expected, just as Kun Jue’s body began to fall and was about to regain control of his body, a buzzing sound of rapidly flapping wings sounded in his ears.
“The Wild King Bee!” Kun Jue’s heart plummeted. He instantly understood Song Jian’s plan. The latter was preparing to use him as a shield to block the Wild King Bee’s attack!
“Damn it, how could this happen!” A look of despair washed over Kun Jue’s face. His initial plan was to ambush Song Jian when he was absorbed in battling the nearly-dead boss. He didn’t expect his own steps to be detected early, and worse still, he ended up becoming the target of the Wild King Bee’s attack due to Song Jian’s tactics.
Whoosh, whoosh~
Two purple-black poisonous needles were shot at Song Jian, who sneered. Transforming into a black shadow, he slid away from the airborne Kun Jue and gave him a kick, sending him flying towards the needles.
Thud, thud~
Both poisoned needles hit Kun Jue with deadly accuracy. One drilled into his chest and the other into his ribs. It felt like corrosion was spreading from the punctured areas, and soon the rest of his body.
Kun Jue crashed to the ground, rolled a couple of times, and biting down on his teeth, quickly took out a smoke grenade and smashed it onto the ground.
Boom!
After a spark, a thick white smoke began to spread around them. In no time, everything within a few dozen meters became completely invisible.
