Chapter 376: Luring the Monster

Chapter 376: Luring the Monster

Song Jian, alongside the Black Dragon cub, made his way deep into the Blood Demon Cave;

The density of monsters in this dungeon was terrifying to behold. This was likely why every team that had ventured here had either been completely wiped out, or retreated empty-handed.

Song Jian and the dragon found themselves in a narrow passage, wide enough only for two to walk abreast. The passage wound around for about ten meters, its walls an unsettling deep red, as if it was bleeding.

At the end of the passage was a confined cave. A cluster of monsters sat around a fire, tearing into the corpse of a human, letting out low growls as they fought over their meal;

Amongst the monsters, only two or three were Blood Mage attendants, the rest were all apprentices.

Although the cave was small, it could barely accommodate a five-member team for combat, but that would mean taking on around seventeen or eighteen monsters at once.

But if they used the passage where Song Jian was, only encountering one or two monsters at a time, then after the Blood attendants charged in, almost all the Blood Mage apprentices would be able to harm the Main Tank (MT) with ranged attacks from behind. This would put immense pressure on the MT, and any lapse could spell death, leading to total team annihilation;

Song Jian frowned slightly, realizing that he himself would not stand a chance against an onslaught from a horde of monsters. Using the Black Dragon cub as a shield wouldn’t work either, its size would obstruct him impeding him from unleashing his full strength. If they let the cub take the brunt of the attack, its death would be a matter of time.

“Should we hold our ground here, waiting for the Dawn Warriors to catch up and charge in together?” Song Jian pondered, giving the situation further thought.

The monsters in the cave continued to squabble over the human corpse, hastily grilling chunks of the body over the fire before consuming them bloodied. Then they’d return to scrapping over the remains.

The human corpse was not enough to feed all the monsters. The three Blood Mage attendants were shoved aside in the struggle, left to lap up the spilt blood from the ground to sate their hunger.

A smirk appeared on Song Jian’s face, and he pulled out another piece of “grilled meat” from his bag and tossed it in their direction.

The meat landed within a few meters of the three Blood Mage attendants, attracting the attention of the one nearest to it.

The attendant raised its head at the sound, wiped the blood from its lips, grabbed its Bone Wand, and looked toward the source of the noise.

Soon, it noticed the piece of grilled meat on the ground. Its exotic fragrance was incredibly enticing—it instantly dropped it’s guard. This smelled far better than the stench of rancid blood.

The attendant quickly picked up the meat and shoved it into its mouth. The bursting flavors filled his taste buds. This was a completely different taste from the bloody meat they typically ate, it was so much better.

The attendant gulped down the meat eagerly, scanning the surroundings in hopes of finding more. Sure enough, it spotted another piece lying at the entrance of the passage.

It had lost all wariness by now, and hurried toward the entrance, grabbing the meat and stuffing it into its mouth;

Again, it caught a whiff of the same irresistible smell from within the passage. With two pieces of such tasty meat already consumed, it became oblivious to everything, even dropping its wand, and ran empty-handed into the passage;

Shortly after, sounds of terror filled the eerie passage. The screams of the attendant however, were all too common within the Blood Demon Cave and attracted no attention from the other monsters.

After the swift slaying of the Blood attendant with the aid of the Black Dragon cub, Song Jian collected the loot it had dropped.

“A gem? I didn’t expect the monsters here would drop gems as well!” Looking at a yellow gem the size of a nail in his hand, Song Jian wore an expression of surprise.

This was a yellow gem that could be embedded into equipment to increase defense.

Besides the gem, the attendant had also dropped a pair of level fifteen blue boots. The attributes were ordinary, but they were worth a few thousand Doomsday Coins.

Song Jian glanced at it briefly before placing it in his bag.

Next, Song Jian repeated the same trick, using the grilled meat to lure the monsters out of the cave one by one, disposing of them in the passage. However, a minor problem arose when he tried luring the Blood Mage apprentices. Two of them discovered the grilled meat at the same time. It seemed that they understood what the meat was and started fighting over it. Reluctantly, Song Jian threw out another piece of grilled meat, slowly luring the two monsters into the passage.

The narrow terrain was a nightmare for magic users. Even when confronted by two level eighteen elite monsters, Song Jian felt no pressure, easily disposing them;

Just then, the Dawn Warriors had recovered from their weakened state. The sight of the monster corpses within the passage left them taken aback.

They were surprised to find that Song Jian had managed to kill so many monsters single-handedly;

“My lord, please allow us to join the battle as well,” one Dawn Warrior pleaded. “For you to be battling at the front while we hide behind is a humiliation we cannot bear!”

“Yes, my lord. Allow us to fight alongside you,” the other two Dawn Warriors chorused.

Song Jian nodded, “There are only eight or nine Blood Mage apprentices left in the cave ahead. Let’s go in and finish them off together!”

“Yes, sir!” The Dawn Warriors responded with vigor.

Roar~

With a roar, the Black Dragon cub hurried into the cave. As it opened its mouth wide, a surge of Dragon Breath consumed the apprentices;

Before they could react, the terrifying Dragon Might filled the cave. The Blood Mage apprentices, who were just starting to cast their spells, wore looks of terror. They screamed and ran about in panic.

“We are under the protection of the Goddess of Dawn!” The three Dawn Warriors shouted and charged at the panicking apprentices armed with their swords;

Being confronted up close by melee fighters was an absolute nightmare for mage types. Their incantations were continually disrupted, and the Black Dragon’s intimidating demeanor added further tension. Ill-timed interruptions by the dragon further instilled fear into the mages.

The remaining Blood Mage apprentices had their hopes of casting a complete spell shattered;

Soon, all the apprentices in the cave were wiped out, leaving only Song Jian, the Black Dragon cub, and the three Dawn Warriors, and a still blazing bonfire.
