Chapter 43
Are You Guys Kidding Me?
“How’re the results of the test?” The city governor of the Central Continent’s C-City asked his secretary at the office, whom he had sent to find out more information about the situation.
This was the third day that the school had been placed on lockdown. Tens of thousands of students and their parents had been waiting outside every day, and the school was also under a lot of pressure from the public. Even the Federal Chief himself had asked about this personally. As the city governor, he found it a little bit hard to handle!
The secretary hesitated for a moment but still honestly released the bad news from the test center. “The results show that the monkey is really infected with this new unknown virus!”
Hearing that, the city governor’s heart sank. This was really the worst news possible!
This meant that all the zookeepers who had interacted with that monkey, as well as their families, would have to be put under quarantine. The lockdown would also be endlessly dragged on until the student who had fed that monkey had been identified!
“City Governor, the media has been requesting us to give the public the rights to the information. Should we step out to explain the situation? The parents’ emotions are getting increasingly unstable...” the secretary said weakly.
“Explanation? How are we going to explain this?” The city governor rolled his eyes, feeling helpless as he scratched his almost bald head. Given the current condition, if he didn’t give an explanation, the parents might feel anxious. But if he were to explain, they might just run amok!
The General Inspection Center’s proposal for dealing with the school’s situation was to regulate the dormitories. Although this was something that they were forced to do, such regulation wasn’t exactly considered humane.
Because there were only four people in each dormitory room, such measures could prevent a large-scale infection. However, the downside was that if the student zero was infected, the three other roommates would all be goners as well!
If this plan were to be revealed, it’d definitely be bombarded by the media. And who knew, if the parents’ emotions were agitated, things might instantly go out of control.
Given the current situation, they had to hold on and refuse to reveal anything, letting that student who was unwilling to admit to break out in illness. When everything was a done deal, other than the parents of those four students, all the other students and parents who had avoided the calamity would instead be thankful toward them.
Although this was a grim reality and was also very brutal, sometimes, there were no other options.
At the thought of this, he called the district military to explain the situation to them. He hoped that they could send more manpower to stabilize the situation. As long as they could drag out this phase, even if it meant that he’d get a black record to his name and had to be forced to step down from this role, it’d be better than for there to be a riot. If the virus were to continue to spread out, then he’d have no way of explaining himself!
At the thought of this, he started to wish for that infected student to quickly fall ill. It’d be best if they could die quickly and not implicate others!
While he was thinking, his secretary suddenly received a call. His countenance, which had been a little grim, suddenly perked up after picking up the call. “What did you say?”
The city governor instantly frowned. What was this Little Wang up to? To think that he was still creating such a fuss and being so unstable when the situation was already this bad, should he consider changing his secretary?
“City Governor!” The secretary said excitedly, “That student had turned herself in!”
“What?” Hearing that, the city governor stood up abruptly from his office chair. “Is that true?”
“That’s right. The lockdown team had sent news that a female student from the B Zone had confessed herself. A psychologist had verified this, so it shouldn’t be a mistake!”
“Good, good, good!!” Hearing that, the city governor instantly rubbed his hands together and said, smiling, “Good child. She can see the bigger picture and is a brave one!!” He then quickly asked, “Have her roommates been rounded up at the first instance?”
Hearing that, the secretary quickly picked up the phone and asked. However, his excited expression suddenly turned stiff.
“What’s the matter?” The city governor saw his secretary’s expression and felt uneasy. He was afraid that there’d be more problems and his voice sounded a little careful.
The secretary gulped, not daring to look at the city governor. In the end, he still said honestly, “That side said that... one of the roommates had run away!”
“What did you say?”
——————————–
“Ran away?” The face of the military official in charge of the school’s lockdown was grim as he looked at his subordinate who was responsible for the reports. He felt enraged and found it a little unbelievable. “There are so many of you, and you’re professional members of the special forces. Yet, you guys let a young lady in her twenties escape? You guys are freaking kidding me, right?”
The team leader in charge of that particular dormitory lowered his head in embarrassment. To be honest, they had over ten men in each team, and they were all members of the special forces. Yet, they had let a young girl run away. It would be really shameful if others were to know about this!
After being angry for a while, the military officer calmed down and asked, “Tell me about the details of the situation!”
The team leader shared the situation then.
At around 2 p.m., there had been a problem with the electric circuit. With there being no air-conditioning when it was 43 degrees Celsius and them forcibly locked in their rooms, many students expressed their displeasure. They started to curse that person who hid the truth.
It was the same situation in Xiaoyun’s dorm as well. As her two roommates kept on cursing, Xinya, who had been under great pressure for the past few days, couldn’t hold it in anymore. She chose to knock on the door and turn herself in.
After getting news of this, the team leader didn’t dare to treat this lightly. He first informed the higher ups and then called for the isolation team to bring personal protective equipment over. He hadn’t expected that one of the girls had quickly run back to the dorm after seeing this and locked the door to her room.
They hadn’t paid any attention to this then, but was just thinking of going in and capturing her after the isolation team had come. What they didn’t expect was that after the isolation team had come, they forcibly broke into the room only to realize that the girl called Guo Xiaoyun had disappeared!
The team leader had looked around the room and saw that the window was open. However, at that moment, he merely smirked and thought to himself, (This young lady has watched too many movies. She only knows of these petty tricks. This is the sixth floor! Only a fool would believe that she had jumped out of the window!)
He immediately got his team to search behind the door and in the cupboard thoroughly. They also forcibly pried open the gaming cabin that was shut tight. But after the search was completed, they discovered that...
She was gone!
Oh my god...
Could it be... that she had really jumped down?
The team leader had panicked and quickly looked down from the window. There were air conditioner compressors outside of the dorm, and in theory, it wouldn’t be impossible for daring and careful people to climb down. However, would a 20-year-old student have such guts? Moreover, it was a girl?
Putting aside that the temperature outside was so high that the air conditioner compressors were so scorching they’d be able to fry a piece of pork belly to 70% doneness, even him, a member of the special forces, wouldn’t dare to jump downstairs via air conditioner compressors. Did you think that this was a movie shot?
But if she had really done that...
At the thought of this, the team leader felt his body turn cold. To speak the truth, if that really did happen, then he, as the team leader, would need to take on a huge responsibility for this!
It was because there had been people guarding downstairs previously. However, as they had locked onto the target, he had mobilized them upstairs...
Looking at the entire situation... It seemed that... All of these would be his responsibility!
