Chapter 75: Beginnings of the Secret Society (13)
Compass Carburettor took a nap, sleeping for three hours, getting up refreshed. The moment he got up, a weary Caithy fell asleep. She had volunteered to keep watch while the other two slept. Now that he got up, she was unable to hold on any longer, falling asleep the moment she closed her eyes.
Compass Carburettor took out some of the rations he had brought with him, eating it quickly until he had his fill. He was expending a lot of Darlac while moving the Spydragon, so he had to eat a lot to replenish himself.
In the bags they had brought, it was mostly food and water. There were also some necessities like rope and a couple of other items. It was enough for them to be self-sufficient in the Dungeon once their rations ran out.
Compass Carburettor sent his Spydragon out, beginning to scout through the Level 1 Dungeon as he was stunned soon after, muttering, “Holy moly, just how long has this Dungeon existed? There are too many Darble crystals lying around.”
In some of the places, there were enough Darble crystals like rocks on the ground. It was apparent that the Dungeon had existed for too long for such a phenomenon to happen. If not for the fact that Dungeons remained the same and never grew in size, this Dungeon would have become many times scarier by now.
Thankfully, it was still a Level 1 Dungeon, despite the number of years it had remained un-raided. Now that he witnessed the sheer number of Darble crystals lying around, Compass Carburettor understood why the Grogars had established trade with the underground of Kettle City.
To them, the Darble was a useless resource.
For the next two days, all Compass Carburettor did was scout through the Level 1 Dungeon using the Spydragon, soon spotting a lone Grogar seated on what seemed to be a throne made out of a Darble crystal that had grown large enough to be used as its chair.
This Grogar was different from the rest, sporting a body that was four metres high, a humongous figure. As for its neck, it was almost twenty metres in length, giving it a frightening appearance. Just its mere presence was suffocating to a certain extent.
Dungeon Boss!
Every Dungeon had one. It was the leader of the Dungeon Monsters, capable of commanding them to do its bidding. And in a Dungeon Raid, the humans targeted the Dungeon Boss first. Once it was killed, the monsters would lose their leader and no longer form armies.
With that, it would be easy for the humans to hunt the monsters on a daily basis without any risk of a Dungeon Break happening. And, the moment another Dungeon Boss appeared, they would notice the signs in the changing behaviour of the Dungeon Monsters and swiftly organise another raid party to exterminate it.
A Dungeon Boss was the strongest of its species in the Dungeon. And, the bigger the Dungeon, the stronger the Dungeon Boss. That was why, to kill the Dungeon Bosses of Level 2 or Level 3 Dungeons, an entire army would have to be sent.
They’ll use a multitude of siege and other heavy weapons to spam attacks on the Dungeon Boss first to weaken it. After that, they would make the Puppets fight the Dungeon Boss, inflicting injuries on it steadily while working on tiring it.
After all, only when all the Darlac in the Darble Crystal growing on its forehead was expended would it tire out. And, a Dungeon Boss had a tremendous reserve of Darlac. Finally, the Warriors would swarm it and attack it nonstop using their energy blades.
Despite everything, they would have to suffer tremendous losses since the Dungeon Bosses would make all the monsters in the Dungeon swarm the army. It was a race against time, a quest to see which party would emerge victoriously. And, the life and death of the Dungeon Boss signified everything.
Taking on a Dungeon Boss was that risky. Though, Compass Carburettor had no intentions to fight it. He was aware that even if he emptied all six of his bullets into its head, it wouldn’t die. After all, the Dungeon Boss’s body was protected by a tough chitin armour.
It had surpassed a rhinoceros in toughness.
‘Let’s see, who else is stupidly powerful apart from the Dungeon Boss here?’ Compass Carburettor thought, causing the Spydragon to roam through the Dungeon as he spied upon every Grogar in the place, finally smiling upon seeing a lone Grogar.
‘Based on the similarity in its suffocating presence, this Grogar is one of the Dungeon Boss’s offspring. Thankfully, it’s a female.’ Compass Carburettor thought, laughing as he finished planning, ‘Out of the three offspring, only one is female. And, all three of them are equal in power. But, they pale in comparison to the Dungeon Boss.’
The one he set eyes upon spanned a height of three metres and had a neck length of 15 metres. But for his plan to fruition, she had to become even stronger.
The female Grogar simply stayed in place, using her long neck to climb up a tree to pick up a fruit that she munched upon. Based on what he had observed, the Grogars were omnivorous. They ate anything that was deemed edible.
On seeing that she simply remained idle in her spot, the Spydragon slithered out, soon scouting through a couple more locations as Compass Carburettor looked through the places where high-quality Darble Crystals grew.
Upon motioning for Fealta and Caithy to remain in place, he exited the cave, moving carefully as he spent a couple of days collecting as many Darble Crystals as possible, choosing ones that had the highest of quality among those he saw.
Eventually, he had gathered a large enough pile, enough to fill up an entire bag’s worth as he returned to his cave, resting as he went through his plans once. He then motioned for Fealta and Caithy to pick up as many of the fruits that were the female Grogar’s favourite while he did some preparations, selecting another cave that he deemed was secluded enough.
A day’s worth of preparations later, he sighed, calming his thumping heart, “I hope this works. Otherwise, I’ll be screwed.”
