Chapter 49 Valley Departure (III)
"Ahhhhhhh!"
Going down the slope the four of them couldn't help but scream out due to the high speeds
"Elric we have a problem, I can't see anythi-"
*Boom!*
Just before George finished talking, a stone protruding from beneath the river suddenly collided with the raft breaking off some of its parts.
At this time the sun had completely set completely limiting their visibility making it almost impossible for George and Davis to help direct the raft with their paddles
Unfortunately, Elric couldn't pay much attention to what Gorge said as he was still trying to recover a bit of his mental power from earlier
*I really need to find a way to increase my mental power and find a way to reduce its consumption when casting spells*
*When we get back, I'll have to ask Reinhardt about all his experiences so far in Elias, maybe I can get some inspiration from there!*
Slightly recovering Elric was suddenly more anxious to reach freedom town and discuss some things with Reinhardt
*Boom!*
*Boom!*
*Boom!*
Just as Elric was pondering his next course of action after reaching the town, with bangs the raft collided three more times
"Young master!" Shouted George
Hearing his shout, Elric immediately understood what he meant and without much hesitation, he threw out his spell book to George
Catching it, George immediately used his mental power to communicate with it summoning a fireball
"Bam!*
Holding the book in his hand, a fireball appeared out of thin air
Immediately with the appearance of the fireball their path suddenly became visible
"Good, finally we can see!"
Letting out a sigh of relief, Davis and George immediately began to steer the raft creating a somewhat smooth path
Seeing Everything stable, Elric completely relaxed
It turns out that during the past month due to their lack of proficiency in drawing inscriptions mentally, Elric would lend them his spell book from time to time whenever they needed it
Now seeing the situation, Elric immediately understood what George wanted.
Soon with the help of their new light source, their rapid descent along the fall suddenly became easier and smoother unfortunately those four collisions from earlier had left a lot of damage on the raft
"Phew! Young master, I think we lost the ghosts"
Wobbly standing up Alvin who had exhausted his mental power earlier surveyed their surroundings
Having said that, Elric, George, and Davis couldn't help but look around and to their surprise, it seemed the ghosts had completely disappeared
Seeing this, George and Davis couldn't help but become happy whilst Elric on the side had a contemplating expression on his face
*It doesn't make sense, technically speaking they should still be chasing after us after all from their behaviour earlier their determination to get us was clear. However, what happened?"
"Could it be the eyes I felt on me earlier that made a move? If so, why?"
Thinking of this Elric scratched his head in doubt, too bad no matter how much he scratched it, nothing came to mind.
"Whoever you are although I don't know what you want, but if you're planning anything I Elric would definitely not let you go!"
Said Elric as he whispered under his breath as if he was talking to the eyes owner, unfortunately there was no reply.
Soon with the help of George casting the flame spell to light their way, they successfully made their way down the fall reaching the valley exit
"Haha young master we're finally out of that darn valley!"
As If to let out all the accumulated depression, immediately the raft touched down on the nearest shore Davis burst into a hearty laugh
"Yes, we can finally go home!"
"Haha young master, let's stop at a tavern once we reach freedom town!"
As if on cue, immediately after Davis finished laughing Alvin and then George followed suit, it seems the pressure accumulated was too much as they couldn't wait to get some rest in town
"Haha, calm down you guys, I know you all want to get to town on time however it's still night time it wouldn't be safe for us to keep walking plus there's still about a days walk worth to freedom town"
Seeing them like this Elric also let out a light laugh, he too had been quite stressed, unfortunately taking into account the situation at hand Elric had no choice but to pour cold water on them.
And like he expected, after hearing what Elric said they suddenly quieted down.
"Okay young master, I understand what you're saying, but where are we going to sleep? There's almost nothing around here"
Taking a look at their surroundings Davis couldn't help but point out
Hearing what Davis said, Elric quickly looked around unfortunately it seemed Davis was right as he couldn't find any suitable shelter
In front of the river bank where they had just gotten off from, was a large open road with no trees for cover or caves, only a few weeds from time to time
The ground looked cracked as if all the water had been sucked from it, seeing this Elric couldn't help but wonder if they had been accidentally teleported to a desert
"Wait I'll check the map to see if there's a suitable position to take shelter for the night"
Saying that Elric quickly took out the map to confirm their position while also looking for shelter in the process
After taking a look Elrica had a slightly unsure expression on his was
"What is it, young master? What did you see?" asked Alvin, George, and Davis on the side also turned towards Elric expecting his answer.
"It's nothing, we're in the right place, however, it seems as tho this area was scorched by something creating the only bald patch in Zuma forest"
"However according to this, the closer we are to freedom town the more vegetation we'll see"
Returning the map to his pocket, Elric quickly told them the situation
"Sigh…. It seems we have no choice, we'll just have to sleep here like that and set off early for town tomorrow"
With a slight sigh, Davis pointed out their only option
"Yeah you guys sleep, I'll keep watch this time"
Realising this was the case, George immediately volunteered to keep watch holding the spell book in his hand.
Seeing this, considering that he and Davis are the only ones whose mental power isn't exhausted plus the existence of the spell book, the three of them unanimously accepted George's proposal
"Alright then, let's get some sleep, we have to cover as much ground as possible tomorrow!"
Signalling for everything one to get some sleep, after finding a slightly large rock to rest on, Elric closed his eyes for the night
