Chapter 34 Let Him Cook!
Soon time passed, and the war was unlike anything the four of them had ever seen with various magical abilities being displayed left and right, blood flying into the air and Shreeks resounding throughout the valley; it was truly a sight for sore eyes.
Even with the setting of the sun, the war showed no signs of dying down rather it seemed to have intensified as both sides had begun to become red eyed.
Noticing this, Elric and the rest realised there was no way to escape as it is otherwise they might accidentally become the centre of target for both sides so with a slight sigh they began to make preparations in their stay in the hiding spot.
*grrr~*
Just as the they were engrossed in the war, a slight sound was heard from Davis stomach gaining everyone's attention
"Hehe, don't mind me, it seems I'm a bit hungry" Said Davis as he tried to change to the topic with a slight blush on his face
However as if given a signal, immediately after Davis finished speaking the stomachs of George, Alvin, and Elric each made the same hunger growls
With that, an awkward silence filled the air thankfully, after a few forced laughs they quickly put it aside and began to think of a way to solve their hunger.
"Young master, why don't we eat that?"
Holding his stomach with one arm due to hunger, Alvin pointed to a nearby corpse beside them, it was a giant bear-like beast who looked scorched with lightning mostly killed by a thunder bunny.
"That's a good Idea Alvin, only if you want us to attract those beasts' attention haha!"
Hearing Alvin's words, George couldn't help but laugh at it sarcastically. After all, considering their current predicament, who knows which monster might get a whiff of the burning corpse as they cooked it? trying get the corpse and cook it would be tantamount to suicide
"Young master, I think we should let him cook" said Davis
Davis on the other hand unlike George thought otherwise, insisting on the fact that both sides were currently to engrossed in battle to notice anything going on
Soon after bickering for a bit, Alvin, George and Davis decided to leave it to Elric to decide
And after thinking about it for a bit, Elric still decided to follow Alvin's choice and cook the corpse, after all both sides were currently to engrossed in fighting coupled with the constant lightning strikes creating fires, it's would be hard for one of them to single then out
With all these various factors plus his grumbling stomach Elric decided to take the risk
"We can eat some of the meat. However we have to cook the corpse far away from our hiding spot so as to not be implicated. Who's up for moving the corpse" said Elric who had obviously made up his mind.
Thankfully there wasn't too much of a discussion for this as Davis as the strongest excluding Elric decided to talk on this task to which nobody had any questions to
Following the same strategy as with the carriage from earlier, Elric gave Davis his spell book to carry together with the corpses so that like before he would Activate the fire inscription.
Davis, seeing him holding out the book, instantly understood what he meant, taking it in his left hand and dragging the corpse with his right. Davis began to look for a secluded cooking spot.
Thankfully after a period of checks, Davis successfully found a small cave, looking at the cave, he couldn't help but wish this was their hiding spot. Too bad it was already too late to change.
Throwing the corpse forward into the cave, he took out the magic book which after gaining Elric's permission was able to use the inscriptions with it. So after opening the flame inscription page he immediately started cooking
*Sizzle~*
*Sizzle~*
*Sizzle~*
Sitting in a cave one person, one large corpse, one magic book could be seen. Using the flames of the book, the corpse quickly started cooking, spreading a nice aroma throughout the cave. Even Davis sitting in front of it could help but salivate.
However, thinking of the others waiting for him he quickly wiped his lips and waited for the food to be done.
*Sizzle~*
Finally, the last sizzle signalled the readiness of the food, realising this, he decided to leave the cave, And so without any hesitation Davis took back the magic book carrying the corpse back to their original hiding spot.
Stepping out of the cave, the pupils of Davis couldn't help but shrink. Outside the cave the suns of Elias had already gone down making it almost impossible to see his surroundings, and judging from the height of the moon it was obvious he had spent a lot of time in the cooking cave.
Realising this, he immediately summoned a fire ball through the book to serve as lighting and picked up his pace hoping to get to Elric and the rest safely and given that more beasts tend to come out at night Davis couldn't help but worry about his own safety.
After a period of playing hide and seek with the voices in the woods Davis successfully brought the food back, however the sight he saw left him speechless
Crouching in their hiding spot, Elric, Alvin and George sat down with round bellies beside a bag full of food.
It turned out that after he left, Alvin accidentally discovered one of the bags Elric took out from the carriage in order to dissect the thunder bunny from earlier and in it contained a lot of food.
"hahaha don't worry about it Davis, have a seat"
Motioning for him to sit beside him, George took out some wine and dried meat from the bag, and Davis with a listless expression took the wine from him and took a large gulp as if to take out his anger on the wine.
*Hsss~*
Drinking it down, suddenly Davis asked a question that had been bothering since he got here
"Young master, what's going on with the war, how come it's all silent?"
