Chapter 7: Peach Village
Chapter 7: Peach Village
"Which bastard did this to you!?"
Miguel's booming voice startled Sara. She could feel his rage in his voice. She realized that Miguel had truly grown up and changed for the better. He now has emotion as well, just like any normal human does.
She felt warmth inside her heart, knowing that the child she raised was showing her concern. This was the first time in ages that she felt that she was being cared for.
When was the last time? Right, it was when her now-husband left for a long trip.
Tears started to well on her eyes, and she was about to say that Miguel doesn't have to worry about it when Miguel beat her to it.
"You know what? You don't have to say anything," he said with a flat tone.
He knew that Sara would just deny it to keep him from getting worried. As for the reason for the bruise on her neck, Miguel was a hundred percent sure that it was Jonas who did it.
His rage towards Jonas just increased even more.
Sara smiled and told him to sit at the table so that they could have their breakfast.
While eating, Sara mentioned that they would go straight to the main house today to report his grimoire awakening. She said that those who awakened a grimoire would be valued by the Red Family, even if they came from a servant lineage. After all, not all people could successfully awaken a grimoire, so every grimoire user was very valuable to the family, no matter their previous status.
The place they were in right now was the servant quarters of the third branch of the Red Family, led by the third cousin of the main branch's family head. They were in a small village called Peach Village.
The main house of this branch was on the other side of the village. It would take at least an hour of moderate walking and thirty minutes at most if they rode a horse carriage just to get there.
Sara being drenched in sweat after rushing there to fetch medicine for him was not without reason.
After they were done eating, the two of them immediately went to the main house. As Sara was only a servant and her wage was only enough for their daily needs, the two of them just decided to walk there.
Miguel was not bothered by this, as he went along with Sara.
On the way there, Sara reminded him to behave in front of the branch family head. Sara said that the branch family head was a powerful summoner, and if he wanted help contracting a beast, then the family head would be his best option to get help from.
Gaining the family head's support would also allow him to not be bullied by the others. Knowing that he doesn't have an Innate Beast and an Innate Skill, Sara was worried that he would be bullied by the others because of it.
In the entire Peach Village, there were a total of fifteen Grimoire Summoners, including the branch family head. Of the fifteen of them, seven were from the younger generation, like Miguel; four were old summoners, like the branch head; and the other three were summoners tasked with guarding the village from attacks from wild beasts or any threats. They were not part of the Red Family but were hired from outside, just like the servants like Sara. Of course, the summoner's salary or wage was much higher than that of the servants.
Jonas was actually one of the three guardians in Peach Village; however, he had never given Sara an ounce of money after his return 18 years ago.
Perhaps this was also the reason why Sara was reluctant to part with him; aside from the guilt that she was feeling, he was a protector of the village, and if they parted ways, Sara must have been worried about her and Miguel's safety if Jonas got petty towards it.
After more than two hours of walking and some rest, Miguel finally saw the main house of the Third branch.
The main house was not as grand as he initially thought.
It was made with wooden materials and was big enough to be called a small manor. It was gated with a thick wooden fence, and its front gate was guarded by two people wearing full sets of armor and holding a spear.
Miguel took a glance at these two guards and noticed their firm stance while standing. From that alone, he already guessed that the two of them should be trained properly.
This made him wonder if there were other power systems present in this world aside from the grimoires.
Having two or more power systems in one world was actually not impossible. There were times that people were reluctant to accept that they were not gifted or talented enough to practice the main power system of the world; hence, they would seek their own way of going stronger.
Strengthening the body through hard-core training and strict discipline was an example of such a case.
The two guards were already familiar with Sara. They greeted her politely and then asked about Miguel.
"This is my adopted son. He awakened a grimoire yesterday, and I'm here to report it to the branch head," she stated. There was an unconcealed pride in her voice as she said that to the guards.
The two guards' eyes lit up once they heard her report. Someone who awakened a grimoire would surely become someone great in the future. They could not help but cast a gaze of envy towards Miguel as they reminisced about their past when they waited for a grimoire to awaken when they were at the age of 18.
In the end, the two of them bowed respectfully to the two of them even more before they allowed them to enter the small manor. They also jokingly said that Miguel should not forget about them when he becomes powerful in the future.
Miguel nodded perfunctorily towards them as he stepped inside, following right behind Sara.
The moment his right foot stepped into the land right behind the gate, his vision suddenly constricted as texts of unknown origin flashed in front of his eyes.
