Chapter 8 Basketball Powerhouse
Everyone turned their heads and looked at the confident Arlan.
Owen walked towards him and whispered in a low voice. "Are you crazy? That guy, Terrence, is an elite prospect scouted by the local pro league. I heard that even scouts from the NBA G League also showed signs of interest in his potential. Bro, just stop here and don't embarrass yourself further."
Arlan ignored his words. He just wanted to see how well he could play on the court after he claimed the Top-tier basketball talent. Although he felt that he had gained decades of basketball experience, he wanted to see if he could display this experience on the court.
Terrence clapped his hands when he saw that Arlan was not afraid to play with them. He laughed and said. "Since you already have your fifth player, let's go to the court."
Owen frowned upon hearing his words. He wanted to rebuke him, but when he saw the mocking smiles of Terrence's group, the words that he wanted to say were stuck in his throat.
"Owen, don't tell me that you're afraid?" Terrence laughed coldly when he Owen's hesitant look.
Owen gritted his teeth and muttered. "So be it!"
"Good!" Terrence's smile deepened and he brought everyone to the hotel's outdoor basketball court.
"Just wait for a moment. I'll call someone to officiate our match." Terrence grabbed his phone and dialed a number. He chatted with the person over the phone and after a minute, he hung up the call and said. "Our referee will be here in a few minutes."
Hearing this, Owen knew that there was no turning back anymore. Each team was betting 100,000$ for this match and he knew that their chances of winning were pitifully low. His group might also be a varsity team, but their fifth player was someone he didn't know. Moreover, Terrence's group has the advantage of teamwork and skills.
Thinking about this, Owen could only sigh in his heart. 'I just hope that Terrence won't pester my girlfriend again after this match...'
"Bro, what's your name?" Owen asked Arlan.
"Arlan and you are?" Arlan stared at Owen.
"Owen. I apologize for dragging you into this matter. Don't worry. I'll pay for the bet even if we lose." Owen forced out a smile.
Hearing this, Arlan chuckled lightly. "Who told you that we are going to lose?"
Owen stared at the confident Arlan and shook his head. This guy was too arrogant.
Soon, the referee arrived at the court and their match finally started.
Because of the huge difference in their center's height, the first possession went to Terrence's group.
Terrence dribbled the ball calmly and his teammates went into their respective positions in the court, looking for an opening to penetrate the defense of their enemy.
One of Terrence's teammates set up a screen for him, allowing him to be open in the three-point area. Taking this chance, Terrence took the shot with absolute confidence.
Swish!
It was a clean shot!
"The match has just started, let's move!" Owen shouted, trying to ignite the morale of his team.
However, in the next quarter of the game, Terrence's group scored more points!
20-12
The gap in their scores was too wide that it seemed that Owen's group was going to lose.
"Give me the ball." A calm voice drifted into Owen's ears. He turned his head and looked at Arlan in surprise. He had forgotten that this guy was actually on their team.
Owen passed the ball to Arlan.
Arlan was merely observing the situation in the first quarter of the match.
"You're finally playing, huh?" Terrence guarded Arlan with a cold smile on his face. This guy was only running around the court doing absolutely nothing so he believed that Arlan was merely a fool.
Arlan dribbled the ball rhythmically and his movement suddenly became unpredictable, making Terrence furrow his eyebrows in surprise.
Arlan dribbled the ball between his legs and went past the stunned Terrence. The tall center immediately blocked him from driving to the basket, but Arlan exquisitely spun and scored with a layup.
Terrence's eyes flashed as he looked at Arlan. 'This guy knows how to play...' He thought in his heart.
Owen and his group were also shocked by Arlan's display of skill.
"Your good, bro!" Owen eagerly said.
24-14
There was still a huge gap in the score, but Owen's group soon caught up under Arlan's lead.
30-21
36-30
Arlan scored back-to-back threes and even with someone guarding him, his shots never missed! Terrence's team was forced to put two guys to defend him, but Arlan bulldozed his way to the basket and scored with a tomahawk dunk!
38-32
There was only a six-point lead and Owen's team was gaining momentum after Arlan's ferocious display.
At this moment, Terrence already acknowledged that the random guy he had provoked was actually a hidden powerhouse on the basketball court!
56-56
There were only twenty seconds left in the clock and Arlan was holding the ball.
He stopped in the painted area of the half-court line and smiled faintly. "You guys are too far." He then took a shot after muttering those words.
"He actually took a shot near the half court line!"
Everyone stared at the ball that was drawing a beautiful arc in midair.
Swish!
A perfect shot!
Everyone stared at Arlan and felt that he was possessed by Stephen Curry.
56-59
For the first time since the match started, Owen's team finally had the lead.
"Nice shot, bro! You haven't missed a shot today!"
"Good shot, Arlan!"
Arlan's teammates praised him happily after they took the lead.
Soon, the match ended with Arlan's team winning the game.
Terrence walked up to Arlan and said. "Your good, bro! I apologize for disturbing you earlier. Let's be friends. My name is Terrence, I enjoyed playing with you."
"Me too. I'm Arlan." Since the guy had already apologized to him, Arlan no longer pursued the matter. It was better to make friends than to make enemies. Furthermore, Terrence was a capable young man with great potential. If he toned down his arrogance, he would become a great professional basketball player someday.
