Chapter 23 Entering The Lion’s Den With Only A Fruit Knife
"Mr. Roa, you must think this through! Leandro Manzano is a dangerous man! Even the police are afraid of him!" Loyd anxiously said.
Arlan ignored him and turned on the engine of his car. He then stepped on the gas pedal as he muttered. "You have nothing to worry about. I brought a weapon for self-defense."
"A weapon? Do you have a gun in this car? What kind of gun? Is it a high-caliber rifle or an automatic submachine gun? No! Even if you have a strong weapon, you won't be able to intimidate Leandro! He has a private army and even his low-ranking lackeys are armed with guns!" Loyd panicked as he said those words.
Arlan shook his head. "I don't have a gun. I'm a lawful citizen of Maharlika. Why would I bring a gun?" He muttered disdainfully.
Loyd stared at him suspiciously as he asked in a low voice. "Then what kind of weapon do you have?"
Arlan pointed at the backseat with his thumb as he said. "It's right there."
Loyd turned his gaze to the backseat and looked carefully. His eyes were filled with hope and anxiety. Suddenly, he caught sight of a knife, the kind that was commonly used in cutting fruits and vegetables.
"Mr. Roa, you're not saying that this fruit knife is your weapon, right?" Loyd glanced at Arlan as if he was looking at a lunatic.
"You ask too much. Just sit there quietly and tell me where Leandro's camp is." Arlan muttered.
'Is he really planning to go to Leandro's base with a fruit knife?' Loyd thought in his heart.
Arlan didn't plan to ask the police for help since Leandro has a connection in the police department. It would only alert him and he might even escape from the country.
Soon, they arrived in front of a gated villa in the suburbs. There were ten armed men who blocked their car from entering.
Seeing these people, Loyd almost pissed his pants in fear. "It's over! I'm dead!" He muttered in a shaky voice.
Arlan's expression was still calm in the face of these armed men. He rolled down the window of his car and grabbed a stack of cash which amounted to 100,000 pesos. "Brothers, I am friends with Boss Leandro. I came here to deliver his money." He said while tossing the money to the armed men. He also showed them the briefcase which contained 4 million pesos.
One of the armed men caught the stack of 100,000 pesos cash and grinned. "Oh? So it's our boss' friend. Welcome! Welcome!" He didn't even suspect that something was amiss. This was because he saw the person who was sitting in the passenger seat of Arlan's car. Loyd was one of the low-ranking members of the cartel and they had seen him a few times before. Loyd's presence removed the suspicions in their hearts.
"Thank you. After I give the money to Boss Leandro, I'll treat you guys to a drink! Haha!" Arlan chatted with the armed men as if they were bosom friends. There wasn't even a hint of awkwardness in his voice. Not long later, the armed men opened the gate and were allowed to enter the villa.
Loyd who was on the brink of despair was stunned when he saw this scene. He thought that they would be shot into sieves, but they actually managed to get inside the villa unharmed! He couldn't help but look at Arlan with admiration.
"Stop daydreaming and get out of the car! I need you to go with me inside the mansion so that those thugs won't suspect anything." Arlan unfastened the seat belt and smacked Loyd's head. He then grabbed the fruit knife from the backseat and hid it under his clothes.
When Arlan saw that Loyd was still spacing out, he grabbed the guy out of the car and dragged him toward the mansion.
"This villa looks great, but it's still nothing compared to mine." He muttered nonchalantly.
They met a few armed men along the way and Arlan greeted them in a friendly manner. "Good evening, buddy! We are here to deliver money to the boss!"
The whole time, Loyd's back was drenched in sweat and he was already prepared to be caught up in a crossfire. However, nothing special happened and they even managed to bypass the armed guards.
"Where is his office?" Arlan asked in a cold voice.
Loyd lifted his trembling arm and pointed in a direction. "B-Boss Leandro's office is there. I saw him entering that room when I last came here..."
Arlan spotted two men outside the office. They were different compared to the idiots they met earlier. They exuded an oppressive aura and thick killing intent! These guys are veteran killers! Arlan could immediately tell the moment he laid his eyes on them.
"No one is allowed to enter without the boss' permission!" One of them muttered in a cold voice.
Arlan wasn't flustered when he heard this. He opened the briefcase and said. "Brothers, I'm only here to deliver money to the boss. Please don't make things difficult for me. Just tell him that this is the 4 million owed by the Reyes Family."
Reyes is the family name of Sofia's household.
The eyes of the two men flashed with a glint when they heard this. They glanced suspiciously at Arlan before looking at the briefcase filled with cash. "Wait here. I'll report this to the boss." One of them said before he entered the office.
After less than two minutes, the office door was opened and they were allowed to go inside. The two guards followed them expressionlessly.
Arlan calmly walked inside the office and upon entering, he saw a man wearing a mask leaning on a sofa. "You said that you brought the money owed by the Reyes Family." The man muttered in a calm voice.
Arlan no longer had the amiable expression on his face. He nodded his head and opened the briefcase. "They owed 4 million pesos to you guys. This should be enough to pay off everything."
