3-15: I Screwed up!? (1/3)
The male dormitory looked just like a high-class apartment house.
It was a miles away from how Shinichi would imagine a school dorm, but at this point, something of this level couldnt surprise Shinichi anymore.
Ive been waiting for you. So, youre the transfer student, huh.
As Shinichi entered the dorm with Youko on his shoulder, a voice called out to him.
It came from a brown-haired man wearing a pair of sharp glasses like the ones businessmen used.
He was wearing the school uniform, so he was clearly a student, but something felt off.
And you are?
Oh, where are my manners? My name is Amamiya Kaname.
I am the student council president of Garesto Academy.
Student council president?
Shinichi unconsciously looked at him with an odd gaze.
The man was wearing a school uniform, indeed, but he did not look like a high school student at all.
Haha, I guess it really does look odd, after all.
I mean for a 23 year-old uncle to still be wearing a high school uniform and all.
When Shinichi heard that number, it finally clicked.
The man certainly looked young in some aspects, but that was not enough to pass him for a high school student.
Though if one looked closely, one would see that the man was baby-faced in some ways, so perhaps if he were to take off his glasses and dye his hair black he might pass off as one.
Shinichi himself was subject to being presumed younger than he really was over in Falandia, so he more or less understood the mans feelings.
He intentionally avoided pointing it out.
It must be tough overstaying.
In the end, however, that only ended up bringing him to an even more painful subject.
Wrong!! I mean, excuse me. Let me show you around while I explain my situation.
The man denied Shinichis presumptions with a loud voice, but he immediately calmed himself down.
As the man walked, Shinichi followed after him.
The man introduced the various communal rooms in the first floor as they passed them by, making sure to point the important parts.
After that he started explaining about the special student council of the academy.
Has Ruona-kun talked to you about the student council and public morals committee?
A little. She said they had their various duties and authorizes like in manga.
Sigh That girl and her rough explanations The student council president said as he held his head as if it were in pain.
But then Shinichi said something unexpected.
Nah, Im actually happy she kept things concise.
Its not like Im ever going to be a part of it, so I think it doesnt really matter.
Shinichi was as bad with formal speech as ever.
The Garestonians would understand either way, but for a fellow Japanese, the man before him couldnt help but frown.
Well, if you say so
Anyway, to put things in simple terms, this world still isnt used with interacting with another world, so until now, it still hasnt gathered the necessary manpower.
The younger a person is the easier it is for one to adapt to a new culture. Thats true regardless of its this world or the other.
The older one became the harder it would be for one to learn new tricks.
Because of that the traditional way of doing things was not able to cope with the current situation.
To remedy that, it was decided that the matters of the school would be left to the students as much as possible.
That decision led to the increase in authority held by the various committees.
Besides, the problems caused by children using the technology and skills of another world would be best solved by fellow students who could also use them, right?
That was indeed the case, but then came another problem.
That problem being the threat of when the committee members themselves are the ones in the wrong.
To remedy that, the student council was placed above the public morals committee.
Of course, its members are also chosen from the students of this school, but with the added condition of being an exceptional alumni.
The teachers themselves still had a hard time distinguishing between which student was from which world, but the students who have studied in the academy were different.
I see.
An outsider was no good, a student currently studying in the academy was also no good, so the answer was of course to pick from the alumni instead.
As a result, the student council might have ended up taking a different course compared to its predecessors, but the public morals committee ended up fulfilling of some its old functions anyway, so it was still fine.
So its not just because you couldnt find work then?
You know Talking politely doesnt mean you can just say whatever you want.
Moreover, people who cant find work wouldnt be useful in the student council in the first place.
Ah, now that you mention it.
Shinichi nodded as if what he said made perfect sense.
It was the student councils job to stop the public morals committee when they were the in the wrong.
A person unqualified in the real world would surely be ill fit for such a job.
So in other words, youre this schools?
Alumnus, yes. I was one of those picked for class 1 when the academy gathered students 8 years ago.
In other words, Im youre senpai whichever way you look at it, Shinichi-kun of Class 8.
Really, wow
The student council president let slip that he knew about Shinichis history.
But Shinichi already knew that they knew, so he wasnt surprised.
That aside, wheres my room?
Hmm? Ah, right Over here, follow me.
The student council president found Shinichis reaction unexpected, so he was taken aback a little.
He quickly collected himself, though, and rode an elevator to the highest floor, then he led Shinichi to his room.
This is my room?
Yes, thats right. It looks just like a normal dorm inside, but it has a really good view. Isnt that great?
What is? Shinichi almost said, but fortunately, he managed to hold that retort back.
It was a room located at the furthest corner of the highest floor.
He would have to use the elevator or the stairs if he wanted to reach it, and if he wanted to go outside, the distance was also the longest in the entire dormitory.
It was a suspicious room, to say the least.
Because of the number of students, youll be living in it alone for the time being.
Depending on future enrollees or drop outs or your grades, things might change, though.
If its not something youre used to, Im sorry to say youll just have to get used to it. Its that sort of school, after all.
Well, alright.
Anyway, as long as theres a bed and a roof anywheres fine, really.
For someone like Shinichi who has lived in the wilds for so long, this dorm room was like a luxurious suite.
Seeing Shinichi react like that, the student council president finally couldnt hold it in anymore and finally showed how fed up he was.
Ive only talked with you a little, but I think you wont fit in this school, the student council president held his head even harder than he did when he previously talked about Hina.
The student council president did have a point, however. This was a highly competitive school where ones ability decided everything, and yet, a student with barely any ambition had just entered it.
Such a student certainly didnt suit the school.
My condolences, Mr. President. Please do your best.
Acting like its someone elses problem Well, whatever.
In this school your conduct is your own responsibility.
I may be your senpai and your student council president, but all I can do for you is to tell you to do your best.
I dont really feel like it, but Ill keep it in mind.
You can start with learning how to properly use keigo.
You cant just change the last part of your sentence, ok?
Just leave him alone, the student council president told himself, then after telling Shinichi the schedule for curfew and lights out, he left. Oh, he also told Shinichi to take any problems he has with the hall director.
