Chapter 136 - 136 Different Way Of Thought
136 Different Way Of Thought
Wang Gang was coming down the stairs when he saw that they were still there. He smiled warmly and said, “Officers, you haven’t finished investigating? Why don’t I treat you to a meal and we can talk while we eat?”
“No need.” Shen Yin kept her face blank. She still smiled politely and led Meng Heng out of the school. Wang Gang was left standing alone in the corridor, looking darkly in their direction. He then turned to look at the teacher’s office and snorted coldly before returning upstairs.
When they got back to the police station, Wu Zheng and Zou Sheng had just returned from Tan Li’s house.
According to Tan Li’s parents, ever since her marriage to Hu Jin, Tan Li was always praising her husband for treating her so well.
Although Hu Jin and Tan Li met on a blind date, Hu Jin had been very considerate towards her after their marriage. He did not let Tan Li do any housework. He doted on her and was very attentive to Tan Li’s parents. Tan Li’s parents considered him to be a good son-in-law.
After Wu Zheng heard their reports, he immediately listed Wang Gang as the key suspect and began to investigate Wang Gang’s movements from last night to this morning.
When it was time to get off work, Shen Yin stretched and looked up from the computer to get the kinks out of her sore neck.
Her phone suddenly rang. Shen Yin picked it up and Shen Nian’s sweet voice came over the line. “Mom, are you coming back to stay tonight?”
Shen Yin was silent for a moment. She suppressed the grief that was welling up in her heart and sighed. “Mom won’t be going back to stay for now. You have to behave yourself over there.”
Shen Nian looked at Grandpa Lian, who was egging him on, and frowned. He thought for a while. Instead of saying what Grandpa Lian had taught him, he smiled and told Shen Yin not to worry. “Mommy, just focus on your work. Nian Nian will always love Mommy the most.”
With that, Shen Nian hung up and held Grandpa Lian’s hand apologetically. “Don’t blame me for not obeying you. Nian Nian doesn’t want Mom to feel torn because of me.”
The Old Master sighed. He thought to himself that Lian Jing was already an adult, but he could not compare to this child. He held Shen Nian’s hand comfortingly and said with a smile, “Why would I blame you? Let’s go to the dining room for dinner. We won’t wait for your father.”
Shen Yin stared at the phone screen in a trance, and the sadness in her heart was gradually replaced by warmth.
She should have known that although Nian Nian was only six years old, he was much more mature than most children.
Perhaps between her and Nian Nian, she was the one who caused more worry.
Shen Yin shook her head with a bitter smile. She picked up her backpack and went to the prosecutor’s office to find Li Zi to go home with her.
When she passed by the familiar parking lot she saw that it was empty. No cars were parked there.
Shen Yin hummed a little tune. She felt relaxed when Lian Jing was not there to look for her. The two of them should not have any interactions in the first place. It would be best if they continued to act like strangers.
Lian Jing, who was sitting in the office, was not in such a good mood.
He had spent all day sitting in his office chair, looking coldly at the box in his hand.
He opened the beautifully decorated gift box. Inside was a bracelet made of pure gold. Dangling from it was a charm in the shape of a four-leaf clover. It was small but exquisite, just right for a young girl.
Lian Jing looked at it for a while then slammed the box shut in irritation before flinging it on the table. He ordered coldly, “Zhong Xin! You’re not to send a car to pick her up today!”
Zhong Xin stood there silently, bearing the brunt of the President’s anger. When his President was done venting, he lowered his eyes and said respectfully, “Miss Shen has already returned to her old residence.”
Lian Jing suddenly glared at him, as if hoping to see the woman who frustrated him so much. He wanted to capture her and imprison her by his side to teach her a lesson.
“Zhong Xin.” Lian Jing said fiercely, “Get someone to keep an eye on her. Tell me who she sees and who she is with every day.”
Zhong Xin did not dare to refuse. He had no choice but to send someone to follow a police officer.
Their relationship had clearly been on the brink of success, but his President’s arrogance and pride had caused their current breach.
Zhong Xin returned after issuing instructions. He glanced at the time and said softly, “President Lian, it’s almost time for tonight’s banquet. Do you want to bring Miss Ling along?”
Lian Jing frowned and stood up in annoyance. He buttoned his suit and looked at him coldly. “I don’t want another woman making trouble for me.”
Zhong Xin understood and accompanied Lian Jing downstairs. They got into the car and drove towards the National Phoenix Hotel.
At the lobby of the National Phoenix Hotel, Li Zi was curiously sizing up the man beside her. Seeing Shen Yin’s awkward expression, she said in amusement, “So you’re the one who gave Yin Yin the gown yesterday.”
Shen Yin glared at her and corrected her. “It’s a loan.”
Li Zi stuck out his tongue at her. Cheng Huo smiled politely and asked, “When do you plan to return the jacket to me?”
Shen Yin thought of the jacket that Lian Jing had thrown into the trash can. Her expression was awkward as she said, “I’m afraid you’ll have to wait a few more days. I haven’t had time to send it for dry-cleaning.”
Cheng Huo pretended to be troubled and waved his hand. “Then I have no choice. I’m forced to collect some interest in advance today. You have to buy me a meal.”
