I Became A System

Chapter 58 - Doubt

As Aaron continues to witness the conversation, he could just sigh as he found the scene stupid.

These two individuals appear to match with their interests, but at the same time not, which made the whole conversation senseless.

But it was just in the case of Aaron. Since he has high standards to consider things that matter, he became ignorant to the fact that these people have their similarities.

The leader, who was shameless enough to ask for a request, has also a strong sense of justice. In fact, inside their tribe, he judges situations fairly as he doesn't one of them feel the unfairness, as what the outside is.

Ellena, who is also kind but cruel to his enemies, has also another personality that has a strong sense of justice. It's not the different personality that has other identities within herself, but an attitude towards others.

This scene right now proves that even you can't connect two lands in between a river, you can still build a bridge that can help both connect.

"I like you, young lady. May I get introduced to you." It was just a friendly act, however, Aaron reacted furiously that when he screamed, Ellena flinched into surprise.

Worst, it was misunderstood by the leader. "Forgive me, I might be a creep but I want to know the name of the person who's generous enough to help us."

"It wasn't like that." Ellena denied it, unaware of what the leader misunderstood. "I am Ellena. Nice to meet you."

"I am Ning Fu, thank you for your generosity, young lady." He replied. "So what made you decide to be an adventurer at that age?"

Ellena doesn't need to think of the answer. However, she just acted like she was thinking, a way that she apply from the philosophy lesson she took. Since it contains conversation, acting might also affect the impression of a person.

"I decided to become an adventurer… Perhaps I want to clear threats. However, since I am still at the lower rank, I can't do so, thus, making me take an adventure to earn some experience."

Ning Fu just nodded simultaneously, "What an altruistic thought. You're generous enough to help us eradicate the danger around us."

"Hm…? So what is the reason? The mating season was it? Can you explain more it to me?" Ellena ponder. Since she already knew what is mating, she just doesn't know how it affects the nature of monsters.

"It was like this. Monsters came here every year from another forest to find opportunities in partnering with other genders. Since they get violent sometimes, if they just see someone different from their race, they would eventually attack them. Thus, making me worry since my people have their jobs in the nature."

"That's reasonable. I get it. So what's your plan?"

The two just continued talking, discussing the plan and details. While on the other hand, Aaron was observing the place. Since he can't let another threat occur to Ellena, he entirely inspected the tribe village.

* * *

Nothing is wrong… However, there's something that doesn't match up. How could they survive without the help of the outsiders? Since he shamelessly asked for help, it means that he did it before. However, what's the reaction of the people earlier? Seems like they're new to it.

No… I must not think of it negatively! But, for the sake of Ellena. I must study them more. The problem is how?

I moved my body, flying over the plenty of houses inside the village. I noticed some of them, and the jobs that they are doing.

It could also mean that he just asked for Ellena's help to hasten the eradication. But, this could be their occasional job since mating season doesn't happen monthly, at least annually so they could prepare.

There's suspicious, but I don't want to be suspecting the type of person in front of Ellena. But I know that she would understand me.

Ugh… this is making me have headaches! I can't see any clues. These people just seem to be perfect.

I've been studying them for a while since I left Ellena but it could mean that this might be a façade. I just need to use plenty of time, but we don't have it since we have to leave this place.

I can't reach out to Ellena that we have to leave this place since it is merely a suspicion.

More seconds later, I went back to Ellena. She was preparing her sword and vest given by the leader.

"You're going already? What's the plan?"

"We just need to slay some monsters. That's all." She answered.

That's all?... I think I was wrong. But to be careful, I need to warn Ellena.

"Ellena, don't trust any one fastly. There might be a reason why they are secluded from the outside." I said with an intense tone.

"Really? Then, I can't ignore that." She shrugged before returning to the leader's side.

"Are you ready?" The leader asked as Ellena get near him.

"Yeah. This vest is quite hard huh?" Ellena tapped the vest with his knuckles.

The vest was made of white ceramic material but it appears to be not a normal ceramic since ceramic is not good to use as a protection. Perhaps it has just a similar appearance.

I observed the face of the leader. Since my suspicion is still not gone, I must be careful. I will be Ellena's eyes at her back!

"Of course. Our tribe is known for it!" He confidently exclaimed.

"Does it mean that there are other people who knows this?" Ellena asked as she get curious about the context of that phrase.

However, the leader acts differently. Seems like hesitating at my side.

He has something behind his back. Just… I can't unveil it. Just wait, I will surely unravel that secret. Even Ellena can't just leave them, I will surely be aware of the surroundings.

"Never mind." Ellen halts as the leader didn't give her an answer.

"Is that so? Then, let's meet with others." He announced, stepping out the his house.

They went into an open lot with group of people waiting in line. They appearto be in the military but their garments are not. They just wear the same vest as Ellena.

"We are ready." The leader said in front of everyone.

Then he continued, "We will surely remove this threat as we always do. But right now, we have help from our visitor, please welcome her."

Everyone shifted their attention to Ellena at their back, standing alone. Ellena just awkwardly waved at them as many bothering gazes are at her.

I don't see any malice, but their eyes are just the same. Somewhat dark but not. They are in unison or flat. Confusing.

"She will help us eradicate the monsters since she survived crossing till her in the forest. So I hope you treat her well as our guest." He finished his talk before the gate at the distance opened.

"You already know the plan, so let's go." Then they started to go out.

However, I was left with a bothering feeling.. I feel like there's wrong with everybody.
