I Became A System

Chapter 25 - Decision

Amber really likes to put her nose in other's business. Well, I can tell that she really has a talent in data gathering but this is just beyond... I mean, it is her attitude.

Making Amber intrigued about my existence was something I don't like. But right now that she knew a piece of me, maybe telling her a limited about me would be great to stop her curiosity.

"I want to know where did you meet this Aaron." Amber screamed with her hands holding Ellena's.

Now I can't really tell how will Ellena reacts, but I can see that she's irritated.

"Why do you even care?" An annoyed tone from Ellena.

"Please...?" But Amber keeps on shooting some pouty lips.

"No. Get out. Why are you even in my room?"

But being full, or her patience was finally shortened, Ellena pushed Amber who was resisting her force.

Ellena may be dodging her questions, but I know that she really doesn't want to talk about it.

Amber, on the other hand, was clearly delighted to her heart's peak drive. It was as if this was a girl thing...

I can't really understand everything... I can't read the hearts and emotions of something unusual to me.

As Amber tried to study Ellena's attitude, she suddenly changed the topic and her way of speaking.

"It's because I want to talk to you." It was now a sweet young voice.

"Talk, what?"

"Perhaps you changed your mind. Grandma is willing to support both your education."

"What?"

So it was it? Amber was visiting their room to ask again Ellena. Does she have a deadline?

I don't know anything about Amber's current motive but right now, I know that she wants to ask Ellena again. And she'll be using the new information she discovered.

Isabella slowly approached Ellena. She hugged her from the back before talking. "Sorry! Big Sister!"

I can see that Isabella was already regretting her action. She felt guilty that she disclosed their secret to Amber, but the thing is already done.

"What did you say?" Ellena pushed her voice but not an authoritative tone. It was just a soft voice.

"Bis Sister Amber asked me why did I take a membership in ranking."

"Then what did you say?"

"I said because I want to study. I want to learn and go to school because I want to help you."

So she was really eager to study? Hah... so it was my fault for introducing curiosity to her?

Well, it may be bad, but it doesn't mean that I won't help her. I can still teach her if Ellena chooses to decline once again.

"I already told you right? I will earn big."

"I'm sorry..."

Somehow, I can see that Ellena is holding her pride. At the first encounter, she already declined the offer but now, for the second offer, she seems to be thinking of it twice.

Is her pride more important? Or Isabella's wish? Her childhood wasn't great as well as her.

Isabella just became this bright because she wants to learn and also because of Ellena. But seems like Ellena doesn't want to ruin that.

She's really having a hard time. Looking back at Isabella who has an apologetic face, Ellena just sighed.

"I'm sorry too."

Ellena caressed Isabella's hair before shifting her attention to Amber.

"So... what do you say?" Amber asked once again.

"How can you assure that our grandmother will support our tuition in a school?"

"It's because Grandma said to promise you that she can provide anything you need, and even what you want."

"It is tempting... But I need to think of it. This is important for Isabella."

There are things that would help her if she chooses to join them. But I know, Ellena still despises nobles and she's holding her pride.

But that pride was just a part of her decision-making and it won't be the whole thing that would decide for her.

I am really proud of her. And also of myself. Who would believe that I taught her how to be a normal human in almost 2 weeks?

"Good."

"But wait. Isabella won't get casted out, right? Even if I join you, she won't be used as a tool to make me obey?"

Sighs... Ellena is surely still suspicious of nobles.

"Of course not! Why would we do this for a greater good if we, hypocritically do a bad thing."

Amber was obviously enraged but in a joking way. Making pouty lips, she was squinting her brows.

"Okay. Don't get triggered. I will surely think of it."

Amber was about to get out of the room but before she did, she made a joke. And yeah, it's about me.

"Okay... then good night. Be sure to introduce me to Aaron, huh."

"Get out!" Ellena screamed pushing Amber out and shutting the door.

Sighing, at last, the bothersome is gone. It would also what Ellena feels right now.

Ellena looked back to Isabella. "I'm sorry for that. You may have experienced something horrible."

"What's horrible there Big Sister? It was just hard thinking of a proper answer."

I can barely think how Amber pushed some questions to her. But, I can really say that Amber is someone who's annoying talking about serious matters.

"That's what I'm talking about. It's a good thing that you managed to dodge her ability."

Seems like Isabella also learned how to tell the half-truth.

"Why, Big Sister? What's her rune?" Isabella asked in a confused tone. She is tilting her head right now.

"I think that it's magic. Perhaps it involves truth magic or something. But her ability is seeing through lies."

Amber's ability is about seeing through lies. But I don't know where it falls... Perhaps leadership rune? But common knowledge about those who have a leadership rune is that they can have a portion of their subordinates' ability share it with them.

About her ability, it also makes me curious how she has a great talent in swordsmanship... Well, not judging her, maybe just pure talent.

"I see... so that's why she likes asking questions." Isabella said.

"But she was also good at swords. Maybe the education that the family gave was really that great."

So that also intruiged Ellena... I guess she's right. Privileges can do plenty of things and you can grab anything.

"Am I really welcome there, Big Sister?" Isabella asked in a bothered tone.

"It's still not final. I will think of a way to earn money. Even if I need to earn money endlessly, I'll surely have you attend school."

Isabella hugged Ellena. "Don't think about it too much, Big Sister. I will also help... You don't even have to work hard for that. It's merely a dream."

"No... It's your dream."

"It's okay..."

"Sighs..."

***

I noticed that after that. Ellena was just staring at the ceiling. Clearly, she was thinking of something... Is it perhaps about Amber's offer?

It was also bothering me as I want Ellena to be only in the right way. If there's even something I can help with her decision.

"Is there something wrong?"

I looked at her thinking face... She's really bothered by that offer, huh. And right now, I can tell that she's considering accepting that offer.

"Nothing. I was just thinking, will it be great if I accept that offer?"

See... I was right.

"I can't really calculate the future..." I said, just with a touch of my system nature.

"No, I don't mean like that. If I choose to join them, will I ever regret my decision?"

There are pros and cons to every decision. But at least, I can feel that this was going to be a less threatening decision.

I know when will Ellena will die after all, and my censor is telling me that this will help her.

"I can't answer that but what I can say, you have to choose what you think is great for you. You're already an adult, I can't take that phase of life to you." I stated in a comforting tone.

"..."

She was just silent and never answered my statement. And after that, without noticing, she was fast asleep.

***

Time flew fastly and it was already morning. They prepared for the morning then went downstairs for the breakfast.

"I have something to tell you, Amber." Ellena said as soon as they met at the diner.

"What is it? Did you perhaps want to introduce me to Aaron?" With her brow-raising up and down.

"No, it's not about that, it's about your offer." Trying to lighten the mood and change the hype.

"I see... So you really don't like t-" But before she could continue it, Ellena cut her words.

"No. I want to join. I want to at least have a sure future. I want you to support me."

After Amber heard that, her eyes started to shine. Her lips were left open and she held Ellena's hands.

She felt overjoyed by Ellena's decision. Who would've thought that she, declining since the first time she heard the offer, would choose to give up her pride.

"Is that really true? Really? Wait! Why did you accept my offer?"

"It was because I want to have a clear path. And I think, I can't do it alone. As "no man is an island"."

Wait. Is that the quote that I told her? She finally understood it?

It was really a meaningful quote that tells about humans. No one can survive on their own, as I understood it. And you can't have a clear life without others...

"Then, let's go and tell this to Grandma right away!"

"No, wait. I will go with you. But first, I want to at least say goodbye to my friends."

Friends... I know what she meant. It was the people in the town she meets every day she trains.

Well, I wasn't surprised that she considered those people as her friends. But I know that she has still some job to do.

Her last job was that failed mission. The Masagach was surely safe but I'm doubting that they would obey Ellena's words.

Worst, they may blame the debtors.

"Let's eat our breakfast."

***

They are now at the adventurers' guild. Waiting for Selena, to receive a quest.

"A good thing that you accepted it, Ellena." Selena said.

"Why? You want me gone?" Sarcastically, Ellena made Selena nervous.

"No! Why would you think that?" Selena made a flustered expression.

"I was just teasing you."

Ellena then tapped Selena's shoulders then approach the reception desk.

"That surely hit me." Selena mumbled.

They inquired at the receptionist then receive a subjugation quest. Fortunately, it was just an easy quest.

"So Mutated Wolves, 3?"

"Yeah... Let's go."

But just before they got out, the brother bastards halted them. They wear wearing their usual smug face while inspecting Ellena's stature.

What's with them? Is there something he's investigating? Perhaps...

"Nice to beat someone huh? Perhaps, that the one who attacked our mansion was one of you."

So this curl-head is suspecting Ellena! Maybe just one of them but still, he has this suspecting eyes. But, it's futile, no one bothers my Ellena anyways.

"Why are you suspecting us? Maybe someone just hates you. After all, you are all scums." Selena said that made Ellena chuckle.

"What did you say bitch?!" An enraged expression by the curl-head.

Oh... it's making me laugh right now. His face is clearly wrinkled by rage and his irritated expression is making him more ugly in my perspective.

"If I were you, I won't offend a noble who's higher than you." Selena uttered.

"Hmph! With that garments. I know that's just a bluff. That orange girl is the only noble here!"

Obviously, the curl-head is just spouting some insults and nonsensical reasoning.

Like, are there no nobles who like to be humble? Not saying it was Ellena, but there is at least those undercover.

Amber steps up with a smug face. "That... You're pointing me. I won't expect good things from offending us."

"Hmph! Then forgive me. But that bitch! I will kill you!" And now, he's pointing again to Ellena.

He's is really hopeless, huh. I can't even fathom his mouth making a fountain of saliva. His enrage is not irritating me, it's making me puke from pure disgust.

"Threatening people at the broad daylight?" Ellena said.

The curl-head was moved aback then observe the surrounding where people are looking at him. The people who were getting bothered by his words are looking at him in disgust.

Hmph! You won't escape the people's wrath young child.

"I don't care! But that bitch won't escape from me!"

Then, he started rushing towards Ellena, however, people in the adventurers' guild step up. They clearly don't like a person in the guild making loud noises.

They started holding the curl-head and the wavy-head was just pulling the people to let go of his brother.

"Let go of me! That bitch hurt me! Can't you see it?!"

"The only thing we saw was you attacking a young lady." An adventurer said.

"Let go! I will make sure that those ungrateful people will be punished and it is your fault you bitch!"

Before he could get out, he said those words that made me nervous.

I was bothered by what he said. And as expected, that wasn't a good thing. Ellena would be surely enraged.

"Ellena?" I checked her.

'Yes?'

And surprisingly, she was calm as hell. She surely learns so fast. Why did I even underestimate this girl? Really, it's always like that. When I anticipate something about Ellena, I am wrong.

That was just last night that I said to be not overwhelmed by emotions. And right now, she's implementing it.

Ellena took a gaze to Amber. She made an energyless face. I guess, she has alternative ways to control her emotions.

"I can use a perk of being a noble right?"

Amber just nods with a wicked smile on her face. So she knew what Ellena meant by those words.

"Of course. You're thinking of something, huh?"

"Yes... please help me with the connections you have, those are just debtors but they don't deserve to be hurt just because that bastard hates me for making him suffer yesterday."

"I see. I get it. Let's just give this quest back to the receptionist."

Ellena made a worried expression then looked back to Selena.

"Sorry, Selena."

Selena shrugged then supported her arms to Ellena's shoulder.

"What are you talking about? I'm helping you." Then she smiled widely.

I see... so Ellena is opening another path of knowledge.. This means she's learning how to be what he despises, and use it to her advantage.
