Chapter 164 - Chosen Ladies
Agitated... scared... nervous... overwrought... the state of the only bandit guarding the slaves only had one over. His heart was beating fast, worried about what might have happened outside.
He was just hearing screams of horror, covering his ears from the terror, but still reached his ears. He looked at the slaves with an uncertain look, perhaps more of a worried look.
Now, his face was just unpaintable. He seems to have lost his composure. But on the other side, the slaves were curious about the yells. They weren't scared in particular as most of them already had frozen hearts, unaware of how to react in every situation.
But there was one slave who was still hoping. Her eyes were now all covered with tears, praying that the yells would bring doom to the bandits that enslaved them.
Even if she can't escape, their death is enough.
Minutes later, the bandit who was guarding outside yelled. They can't see the other side, but they can hear everything.
There were growls and snickers, which appeared to be that the assailants were perhaps a human or a monster.
"Who are you?!..." the confidence of the bandit faded. To be precise, he was convincing himself to be confident but seemed to fail.
"Groooh!" A deep, loud growl came from out of nowhere and slashed the body of the bandit.
Everyone saw what happened. In a matter of seconds, the body of the bandit was turned in half. And the reason was... a monster.
"Groooh..."
Chills reached directly to their spines as soon the monster figure faced them. They were frozen, unable to envisage their movement.
"Hey, Cules, you're scaring them."
They were shocked. They just heard a female young voice coming from the shadows. They wondered who might be this person, but they were still scared of the monster figure that had glaring crimson eyes.
The barred doors opened and, in just a few seconds, a fire blazed, giving light to the area.
They saw a small figure of a lady. She was covering her body with gears and also wearing a dark cloth mask.
"These were the slaves..." the lady said, and just as she got in, the slaves trembled in fear.
The lady paused for a second and sighed. She killed the fire and slightly opened her lips.
"Don't worry. We are here to help you," she said and approached one slave. She opened the lock of the shackle with some lightning from her palm that melted some parts of it.
"See..." she smiled but it was useless as her face wasn't visible.
The slave who still had hope cried again in tears. She saw a huge monster, but it wasn't the reason why she cried. It was because of the hope that was finally given by heaven. They will finally be saved.
The lady frees them one by one, and also, at the back, there appears a female child who is embracing the limbs of the monster figure.
The monster looked at the child and had teary eyes, pleased with how he was treated.
"How long have you been enslaved?" the lady asked.
"We don't know." one answered.
The lady just nodded and continued to unlock the locks on them.
And the slave, who had finally been given some hope, looked at the lady with admiration. Despite the limited light, she can still see the figure of the lady clearly. For her, it was as if she was a hero who came to save them.
'She's an angel. She saved us.' With tears still shedding from her eyes, her thoughts had already reached paradise.
Her heart was now smiling. The suffering that she had experienced would finally come to an end.
'I was captured by my friends. I thought that they really cared for me. Being an outcast was at least part of the reason why I was with them. They accepted me, but it turned out that they were just getting my trust to be sold as a slave.'
A memory suddenly hit her mind. Flashing through her mind, she couldn't just stop crying. Her feelings, emotions, and thoughts were now aligned.
'Despite the fact that I gave everything I could offer to assist them, I still had a pitiful ending. But now... I'm starting over again. She told us that they were going to help us. I hope that they were not lying. They killed the bandits, so at least what I could do was to hope.'
"Are you all right?" she was jolted back to consciousness as the hero she had been admiring appeared in front of her.
"Y-Yes I am."
"But you are crying. Come here, I'll wipe it for you."
But before the lady could wipe her tears, they started to flow endlessly.
Because of it, the lady was staggered and panicked.
"Why? W-What did I do?"
The slave sniffed and now started wiping her tears from her shoulders.
"Nothing. I'm sorry. I was just too happy that my prayers and the hope I was waiting for finally arrived."
"Don't think about it. We're going out now."
A few minutes later, a shout came from outside the room, and just after it, another two ladies appeared.
They called the lady "Ellena".
'So her name was Ellena... What a pretty name for a brave.' the slave thought.
The other ladies started helping them with the locks.
"Geez... You don't need to shout my name that loud." Ellena said as soon the others helped her with the locks.
They banged their hilts and destroyed the locks.
"Sorry... by the way, Aaron was really smart. Now that we don't need those petty scums to live, we have saved some people from them." one lady who had a tall figure said.
"Rosellete, you don't need to bother with that. Aaron stated that it is the slaves who must be saved, not the scum. They clearly saved us from tying them up." Ellena said.
"Yes, Master. It was really fun that I didn't need to hold back my power." a beaming smile came from Rosellete.
And just as the slaves continued watching their conversations, their hearts were filled with admiration. The feeling of being saved and being indebted to them urged their hearts with an undescribable, pleasing feeling.
'They are what people call Chosen Ladies.'
And just like that, a legend has been recalled. The Chosen Ladies, who appeared a few hundred years ago, saved plenty of slaves and also made the organization now called the Adventurers' Guild.
