Chapter 53 Darkness Swallows The Light
After looking around for a few seconds, the duo finally found the library in the royal section of the city.
The library was a magnificent building made from polished wood which was surprising considering how wood could easily catch fire and the entire library could easily burn to shreds.
Though, the wood had been embedded with numerous formations that only certain people knew about. These formations not only protected the library but also did a lot of other things.
"Welcome to the library. You are only allowed to venture around on the first and second floors. The third floor can only be accessed if you have the rank of a duke or higher." The receptionist didn't spare them a glance as his head was buried in the novel he was reading.
Zack and Emma didn't mind it either as they looked at the list showing the books on the first floor.
"So we can get history books and explanation books here while the second floor has a few skills books, alchemy books, formation books, etc." Emma read the contents on the list before looking at Zack's face. "Where are we going first?"
"I will go to the second floor and buy a few of those books while you can gather the books on history. Let's meet in the reading area." Zack replied while pointing towards a bunch of seating tables where people were quietly reading.
They then split up as the white-haired boy walked up the stairs and reached the second floor. The second floor had few to almost no nobles roaming around.
This is because some of the stuff here was already in possession of most noble families. It was instead useful for those players who had managed to become nobles.
'There he is.' Zack finally found the old man he had been looking for. He then walked up to the reception where the man was sitting.
"I need to purchase a few skill books." The white-haired boy stated as the old man lifted an eyebrow and yawned.
"Please state your budget."
"500 Gold coins."
"That's some budget you have young man. But then, many of the nobles earn much more money than that in a week." The old man said with a sigh as he snapped his fingers and a window appeared in front of Zack.
[ Ice Prison
Water Prison
Earth Prison

Tentacle Pierce
Healing Light ]
"These are the current books available and you can buy any of them. Do remember that I will charge you 500 gold coins a book."
"I was not talking about these books." Zack suddenly said with a smile which made the old man raise both of his eyebrows.
"What are you talking about kid? You can clearly see the only books that I have for 500 gold coins," Suddenly, he paused. "Unless… You have something specific in your mind."
Instead of replying, the white-haired boy raised his right hand and pointed it towards the old man's face.
He had already checked that no one on the second floor was paying any attention to him or the old man. This meant that it was the perfect time to strike.
"Dark pulse," Zack muttered under his breath as the black spiral beam shot out from his palm and hit the old man's face with deadly accuracy.
His body absorbed the dark pulse but he didn't look shocked or had an expression of doom. He just calmly stood up and gestured for Zack to follow him.
The two of them walked to a secluded section of the library where the old man pulled a book out of the many shelves.
[ Grimoire Of The Dark Knight (pseudo myth): Grants the dark knight job class.
Can be used thrice ]
"I guess you were looking for this?" The old man asked as he could feel Zack's gave on the book.
"Yes, I was looking for this. Here is the money." The white-haired boy quickly took out a pouch containing 700 gold coins and held it in front of the old man.
He took the pouch with a smile on his face before he passed the book to the boy.
The book had a leather binding around it which was slowly wearing away. On the front of the book, a few words were partially visible.
They spelled 'Darkness Swallows The Light'.
This was something that was only available in this particular library in the Eizenburgh kingdom. There had been a total of 50 such books in the library but the current number had been decreased by a large amount.
The old man only sold the books when he sensed that someone had a dark element skill or someone personally showed him it. Otherwise, the book remained in the library and collected dust.
After all, it was a relic from the old war.
"You are going to use that, young man?" The old man asked Zack a question before he could leave.
"I am not going to use it because I know what would happen if I did." He replied in a normal voice before he walked away.
p
And he himself knew what would happen if someone allied with the light side used the book to obtain the job class.

Before leaving the second floor, Zack spent another 200 gold coins on books and was left with 227 gold coins.
But he didn't worry about the money since he would turn the silver and bronze coins into gold coins.
The white-haired boy currently had around 2000 silver coins which included the coins he had obtained from the war. After converting, he would get 200 gold coins and would also have bronze coins.
When it came to money, he didn't have to worry about anything since he could very easily make twice the money he was spending on the books.
[ The Ascension Trial (Level 30) ]
This was the book that would help Zack in clearing the trial that he would be facing when he reached level 30.
After doing that, he would be able to have a side job class but that was one of the few things.
After around 100 players had managed to clear the trial, a whole lot of new things would take place but that will probably take months to happen.
'Me and Emma will be at the top of the rankings by then, not only in the players ranking but the guild one too.' The white-haired boy thought with a smile as he climbed down the stairs.
He looked towards the reading area to see Emma sitting with three thick books with probably over 1000 pages each.
Thankfully, they wouldn't have to read the books themselves.
"So, what did you buy on the second floor?" The pink-haired woman asked the moment Zack sat down on the chair beside her.
Each table in the reading area had a special feature called private talk using which, only the people sitting on the chairs surrounding the table could hear what the other was saying.
Emma had immediately activated the feature the moment Zack had sat down and the duo could now talk as loudly as they wanted.
"I bought…" Zack went on to tell her about the two books he had bought had how they had made him spend a whooping 900 coins.
"But they are going to be very useful in the future, aren't they?" Emma asked while raising her eyebrows as Zack smiled.
"Looks like you are learning. Now, let's start reading."
