Chapter 177: 177. Execution

Afterwards, time passed, and Lucius and the others had completely cleaned up their aftermath and returned to their headquarters.

Lucius dismissed the remaining gang members and walked downstairs to where the dungeon they used to keep their prisoners was.

As Lucius walked down, he felt a chill, but with his physique, it was really nothing, so he just shook his body and brushed it off.

Entering another room, he saw a truly harrowing sight.

Van was tied to a chair, and his condition was much more devastating than the one he left him in.

His flesh was brutally lacerated and cut in many places, with some bones seeming to be pierced and even broken.

Lucius had changed a lot since he first came to this world, so he thought the sight of gore could no longer affect him, but when he saw this, he couldn't help but wince.

To the side, Camilla was paying no attention to the half-dead Van and was cleaning up the tools she had used to leave him in this state.

When Lucius walked in, Camilla quickly put down her tools and went to greet him.

"Is everything done?" Lucius asked.

"Yes, the interrogation is done. It basically confirmed everything he said to you. The location of the star seed is true, and so is the fact that he has told nobody about this, and that only the church who found the star seed's landing location is currently aware of it."

But as Camilla was speaking, her face still hung in a frown. Obviously, she was still unhappy about something.

"Although he told you the entire truth, he was still withholding some information from us. Although he didn't tell anybody else, he didn't completely trust the Montford family, so he passed a secret letter onto his subordinate.

He had secretly adopted a son many years back and had him hide away. If he didn't hear anything from him, he would spread the news, detonating a proverbial bomb and causing all the heroic families to scramble for the star seed."

Hearing this, Lucius frowned.

"Have you found out the location of this man?"

Camilla nodded her head and smiled.

"Of course, young leader. I have never disappointed you."

Lucius looked back towards the brutally tortured Van and secretly nodded.

No matter how tough a man you thought you were, Camilla and her vicious methods would be able to pry some answers out of anyone.

Lucius stretched forth his hand and softly rubbed Camilla's head, causing her to smile even brighter.

"I can always count on you, Camilla."

After reassuring Camilla for a little while, Lucius's voice quickly turned cold.

"Pass this news on to Albert. He'll know what to do with it."

Albert and Camilla were the two people Lucius trusted the most, and the two people he knew would give up their lives to save his without any hesitation.

Something like a star seed was enough to make even a father and son fight against and kill each other.

He only trusted these two people to handle things of such magnitude.

Even Reina, who had also raided the gangster hideout with them, was not allowed to know this news.

Although he trusted her, the human heart was always unpredictable, and Lucius decided that now was not the right time to give it a stress test.

Now all that was left to do was to simply tie up the loose ends.

Lucius's eyes turned frosty as he turned around and slowly walked towards the half-crippled Van.

One Van saw Luciuss again, his half dead eyes lit up in hope that he would save him from his suffering.

He used all of the little energy remaining in his body and croaked,

"Sav… save me… I already told you everything. You promised I would live…"

Lucius heard the man's desperate plea and only shook his head.

"I promised you could live if you told me the truth, and you didn't. A lie of omission still counts as a lie in my book. Because of your actions, you can only die in regret!"

"No, no, no… let me explain…"

Van pleaded desperately, but it only fell on deaf ears.

"Van, you lived a life of decay and disgust, working like a dog for the nobles and constantly doing evil deeds in their name. For every grievance, someone is responsible; for every debt, there is a debtor. Karma may not punish you, but today I am your bad karma. This is a life of sin which you yourself have indulged in, and now you will have to pay for it!

Go, and face your retribution in the afterlife!"

As Lucius swung his sword, a dazzling flash of silver appeared, cleanly severing the major artery in Van's neck.

Lucius smiled at the little speech. It was sophistry and hypocrisy of the highest order, and naturally, Lucius didn't believe in it.

If a small gang member like Van was wrapped in sins, how many sins was Lucius, the leader of the revolutionary army, wrapped in?

In history, there has barely ever been a revolution without bloodshed.

The revolutionary army runs around the empire like crafty rats, creating chaos and destabilizing the regime.

Only God knows how much innocent blood has stained their hands. There was a reason they had a reputation as lunatics.

Despite knowing this, Lucius leaned into the whole noble savior persona because he had his own little fangirl in Camilla watching his actions.

In her eyes, Lucius was the peak of what was just. He was the one who would lead the flames of revolution and bring about the end of the tyrannical rule of the nobility.

She was like a believer of the church who had seen their very own messiah.

Lucius looked at Camilla and secretly chuckled in his heart.

He secretly understood why many people put on the 'holier-than-thou' persona.

Acting like judge, jury, and executioner.

Pretending to be superior and judging the masses from above. A part of it was really intoxicating.
