Chapter 39: Uncle Goldward
Chapter 39: Uncle Goldward
Ayaan observed the man and was surprised by seeing his calm attitude. Uncle Goldward had seen many incredible things in this world. Therefore, according to him, there was nothing impossible. Without knowing the credibility of the matter, people should not disregard the things easily.
Afterwards, Uncle Goldward glanced at Ayaan and said with a neutral tone," Can I have a look at your item?"
Ayaan gave the man a deep look and passed the chunk of adamantine to him. Uncle Goldward was surprised by seeing the size of the chunk. It was really too big. But he didn't lose his composer and took the metal in his hand.
However, when he felt the weight of the metal chunk, he felt another shock. For supporting the piece of the metal, he had to use both of his hands.
Then, he remembered how effortlessly Ayaan was holding the metal with a single hand and didn't show any discomfort.
Goldward gave another few looks to his young face and had a hard time to believe that the boy in front of him might be stronger than himself. Nevertheless, he took a deep breath and turned his attention towards the chunk of metal.
However, the metal was too heavy; therefore, he placed it on the table. and after doing that he sat on the sofa.
Ayaan was rather surprised when he saw that the glass table was able to hold without breaking apart.
Uncle Goldward saw his surprised look and explained, "This glass table was made by the most skilful blacksmith in the kingdom. Although we call him a blacksmith, he is one of the most skilled mages of the metal element."
After hearing the old man, Ayaan immediately understood that there must be a defensive spell placed on the table, or it won't be able to hold a heavy metal like adamantine.
The red-haired lady felt annoyed when she saw an old man acting friendly with Ayaan. He was just a fraud! Why is he acting politely with him? She looked at the Goldward in confusion.
However, the old man had already started to examine the metal. Therefore, she remained silent and waited for him to confirm her suspicion, so she could punish this shameless bastard.
Afterwards, Ayaan and the red-haired lady also took their seats again, while the other two ladies didn't move from their places.
Nonetheless, Uncle Goldward continued to evaluate the metal. Time to time, he would frown, and then that frown would become a surprised expression as if he understood something. Without realising he had observed the metal for more than half an hour.
Now, everyone was becoming impatient, even Ayaan felt that he was taking too much time in a simple appraisal. Therefore, he walked towards the man and spoke, "Sir, are you done?"
As the voice of Ayaan resounded in the silent room. Uncle Goldward jolted out from his examining process. He felt irritated after hearing the voice, but when he saw the odd looks of everyone, he remembered that he was here for an appraisal but lost in the beauty of the metal.
Thereupon the old man looked at Ayaan and asked with an excited voice, "Where did you find this masterpiece, boy?"
Everyone looked at the man oddly. No one would tell another person about his secrets, Goldward was almost asking about the secret of Ayaan.
Nevertheless, Uncle Goldward realised his mistake said apologetically, "I am sorry young man, I lost my composer after seeing this big chunk of adamantine, with the purity of more than seventy percent."
The red-haired lady who was standing at the side went agape. After hearing the words of the Uncle Goldward. The adamantine metal with the forty percent purity was already considered precious. Every metal element mage would try to get their hands on the piece.
However, the adamantine in front of her was so big, but it was even purer than ordinary adamantine!
She couldn't believe what she had just heard. Adamantine with more than seventy percent purity!
However, she didn't know that when Ayaan found this metal in the undead realm, it was filled with death energy. Later, Ayaan absorbed all the death energy inside his body and purified the metal. Moreover, at the start, its size was more than two times as compared to the present piece.
After absorbing all the death energy, the metal became the same size as the football.
Thereafter, Goldward glanced at the Ayaan and said, "This piece of adamantine is too precious. I would suggest you place it in the next auction four days later.
The value of the adamantine will increase greatly. Due to that our auction house will also benefit. Because many influential figures would come to the auction to buy it."
After saying this Uncle Goldwards turned towards the red-haired lady and said, "Isobel, you need to treat our guest properly."
The red-haired lady nodded with shame and embarrassment. She knew her uncle Golward won't say anything to her, but after hearing his reminder she still felt embarrassed and glared at Ayaan.
After hearing the appraisal of the man about his item, Ayaan didn't change his expression, and said, "Sorry, I can't wait for four more days. I need money for something."
This was the time for Uncle Goldward to become surprised. He didn't think a person who had this big chunk of an adamantine would be in need of money.
Thereupon, Uncle Goldward hesitated for a while, then asked, "Can I know, why do you need the money? Maybe I can help you?"
Ayaan looked at the man and told him the reason. Anyways, he didn't think that was a big deal, and if he could benefit from it. Why not?
Afterwards, Ayaan explained bus reason for coming here. When Uncle Goldward heard him, a rare smile appeared on his face, "So, you want to buy a place for staying. Isn't it even easy?
Our chamber of commerce deals with all land-related business in the Doham. No other chamber of commerce has this privilege. Just tell us your requirement and we will try to find a house of your liking."
Isobel, who was standing at the side, smiled when she saw how skillfully Uncle Goldward had dealt with the matter. If they were able to sell this adamantine in the auction, their auction house would become famous and invite lots of powerful people from around the neighbouring kingdom.
Moreover, there might be people coming from high-level kingdoms in the auction for getting their hands on the adamantine.
Ayaan was more than happy to do that. He would be able to gain the friendship of Uncle Goldward and Isobel.
When he thought this he glanced at the red-haired lady, who was standing without any expression. There wasn't any hostile or aggressive expression her face.
After seeing this Ayaan sighed in relief. From her expression, it doesn't seem that the lady would hold a grudge on a small matter.
Nonetheless, Ayaan didn't find anything wrong with the deal. Therefore, he accepted their offer and told them requirements about the house he wanted.
After hearing Ayaan, Isobel was the one who replied, "Yes, we have a place similar to what you want. But it will be rather expensive, so"
"Didn't I tell you I am here to buy a place for staying, money doesn't matter, or you think, the value of the place is more than this piece of adamantine?" Ayaan replied in a nonchalant voice.
Isobel heard him and hurriedly explained, so not to cause another misunderstanding, "You didn't understand my point. I want to say, that place is overly expensive. Although it is in the main area most of the other noble families would cause trouble for you.
Because they don't want someone of lower status than them to live in the same place, they live in. Therefore, most of the people avoid buying the place."
As Ayaan heard the lady, his impression of her suddenly improved She wasn't that bad. Most importantly, most of the businessmen try to hide the shortcomings of their products but she told everything to Ayaan, a rather honourable lady.
Ayaan looked at the lady and said with a smile, "Isn't it even better. I like noisy places."
Isobel frowned after hearing his reply and didn't understand what he meant. Uncle Goldward who was sitting beside them showed a surprised expression but didn't say anything. Only a meaningful smile appeared on his face.
The lady didn't think much about it and shrugged before saying to Ayaan, "It's already about to become dark. Can you come in the morning? I will show you the place you want and you can start living in that place from tomorrow."
After making the deal, Ayaan stood-up and just as he was about to exit, he turned towards the lady, whom he met when he entered the chamber of commerce.
Then, he again turned towards the Isobel, "This counter lady is really good at her work, I hope you will treat her better next time."
After saying this, Ayaan didn't stay and walked out of the room. When everyone realised, Ayaan had already disappeared from in front of them.
Isobel wanted to say sorry for her misbehave, but it was already too late. He had disappeared. Leaving her standing at her place with her mouth agape, stunned.
However, the most stunned of all people obviously was the counter lady. She wasn't from a well off family, and that's why she had to work here.
Most people would disregard her after their business was done. But Ayaan didn't forget her and he even asked her devil-like manager to treat her better.
She looked at the gate and remembered the face of the man. How long hast it been since someone treated her like a person? They always looked at her in disdain just because she was a commoner.
