Chapter 93: Why? Because I Can.
Jones had drawn up the quota but with the money and project that he was about to undertake.
It wouldn't be strange to quit his job and focus entirely on the renovation of the apartment because of the shortage of housing.
There was no doubt that this would give him the financial freedom he had sought all of his life because the entire building would be accessible and ready to be rented.
He sat in his office but there was a loud argument outside. Jones liked giving his workers a chance to squash the arguments with their customers without having to appear and undermine them.
He knew how troublesome certain customers were and the only reason they would want to see the manager was to undermine the workers.
However, this was a situation that called for his attention as evidenced by his worker informing him of the trouble outside his walls.
Jones was reluctant but eventually gave in and went out to confront the person making so much noise.
"Hello ma'am, can I help you?" Jones questioned with a broad smile on his face, they didn't have too many customers but even they looked irritated by the woman causing a commotion.
And there was only one reason this would happen, she was in the wrong.
"ARE YOU THE MANAGER!? YOU ARE DOING A VERY BAD JOB! YOUR WORKERS ARE RUDE AND I FOUND A ROACH IN MY BURGER! ISN'T THAT RIGHT, VINCENT!?" The lady barked and the man beside her was the same man that Calista had brought to the shop.
"Sir, I'm afraid that we have found this and I'm sure this would mean that our meals are on the house as well as some compensation or we might sue. I apologize for her behaviour but unlike me, she took a bite out of hers," Vincent said.
The most ridiculous part of this was that it was simply a fast food joint, anybody could afford the meal.
This had to be some sort of scam but Jones wasn't going to let them have their way because they had disrespected his workers.
"If she apologizes, I might be willing to consider this offer but I assure you, there are no bugs in our food. If you could show me, that would be helpful" Jones informed Vincent.
But this was going to be a problem, she went off and ran her mouth so apologizing now would hurt not only her ego but pride.
"YOU THINK THIS IS A JOKE!?" The lady barked but Jones wasn't having any of this.
The fact that they provided a service didn't make them any less than the people they offered this service to.
Vincent knew at that moment that Jones wasn't going to crack, he kissed his teeth in irritation before paying and leaving the shop. If there were indeed bugs in their food then it would be cooked to the degree that the meals served were but Jones knew this wouldn't be the case should he examine the food. Vincent picked up on this.
This was a scam his agency ran to extort money from businesses, he wasn't a police officer despite the badge he had shown Kyle earlier.
He knew right from the moment he set eyes on Kyle that he was going to be an easy target.
People who had no or little attachment to life were the fastest set to scam because they had nothing to truly live for.
There was no telling what could have happened if Kyle fought back, there was a high chance that Calista would have spent some time in jail but with the chips against him, that was unlikely.
The fact that AI could be discerned with simple applications would have made even a little resistance worth it.
But then again, Kyle would never have awakened his system so it all worked out.
Vincent, however, saw no weakness in Jones. Normally, restaurants would give the customer a free meal and maybe a limited time where they could enjoy discounts or eat for free.
After all, the customer was always right, weren't they? Not to Jones.
Everyone began to hail him, even the customers that were eating, this made Jones embarrassed as he simply waved it off.

Ella's career was beginning to take off, she had the option to select a new band with more talented individuals to truly bring out her skills but she chose to stick with her original band.
There was no doubt that starting a new band from scratch would have been a lot easier but Ella wasn't the only one who had sacrificed something to make this work.
She knew deep down that this was something they all wanted and there was no way she was going to deny them when they were at the cusp of their dream.
She noticed that Jane had stopped texting her and this gave her peace of mind because it meant that she was done worrying about the little things.
She was rehearsing for their new song. Ella knew it had to be a hit because it was the song that they were going to use to introduce themselves to the world.
There was no chance for any fuck up.
"Are you sure you can keep going?" The drummer asked but Ella nodded, he knew that she couldn't push herself too hard because the song they were rehearsing was hard on her vocals.
They couldn't risk her damaging them considering she was the one that got them this opportunity. If she was gone then the opportunity would go with her.
But who were her band members? Alexa and Dwayne were the guitarists with Rex being the drummer that controlled the momentum of the beat.
The role of a backup singer was never optional because she didn't need the band relying on anyone but her.
However, this would no longer be possible because the band was about to become bigger than herself and this was why Ella was pushing herself this hard.
"O-One more time…" Ella managed to say and they went once more.
