Hang-up One Second to Achieve Lv.999

Chapter 15

C15 – I will Apologize You will Leave the School

“No,” Ye Lin said almost instinctively.

The entire class turned to Ye Lin with looks of astonishment.

“Why not?” Qi Ning asked, his smile unwavering.

Ye Lin shot Qi Ning a glance and asserted, “What’s the point if I recite a paragraph and then you just recite the same one?”

That was the only rationale Ye Lin could muster at the moment.

“It’s simple,” Qi Ning replied cheerfully. “Let the teacher pick a random line from the book. After you recite that line, I’ll recite the next one. How does that sound?”

Qi Ning’s proposal visibly unsettled Ye Lin.

Nobody had anticipated Qi Ning’s direct challenge.

“I refuse.” Ye Lin struggled to find a reason to decline. After racking her brain without success, she finally blurted out, “What if you’re in cahoots with the teacher?”

Her accusation brought an immediate hush over the classroom.

Wen Shangwei stared at Ye Lin with incredulity. He had never felt this student to be so alien to him.

“That makes it even easier,” Qi Ning addressed the rest of the class. “Just pick someone at random from Class 6 to act as the judge.”

At this, Ye Lin was at a loss for words.

She had long since lost her grip on the situation.

Now, it was Qi Ning steering the course of events.

She realized that, win or lose, embarrassment was inevitable today.

Especially after catching Wen Shangwei’s gaze.

“He’s so full of himself!”

“I’m going to give him a piece of my mind after school today.”

“I’ll set him straight right after this class.”

“I feel like hitting him right now, don’t you?”

Truth be told, no one in Class 6 had ever really seen Qi Ning as a peer.

In the past, such words would have sent Qi Ning trembling with fear. But now, things were different.

Since acquiring the system and realizing its effectiveness, his confidence had soared.

“No!” Ye Lin continued to resist Qi Ning’s proposal. “This whole thing, win or lose, offers me no advantage. Why should I bother competing with you?”

Watching Ye Lin’s mood darken, Qi Ning shook his head in resignation. “You were the one accusing me of cheating. Now, you’re the one backing down from a challenge. What exactly do you want?”

Ye Lin’s face darkened considerably at Qi Ning’s words.

“I haven’t conceded,” Ye Lin declared. “If we’re going to compete, then let’s make it interesting with a wager.”

Without a moment’s hesitation, Qi Ning nodded, “Alright, what’s the stake?”

After pondering for a moment, Ye Lin stated, “If you lose, you have to leave this school. I never want to see you again.”

Qi Ning simply nodded, unfazed.

“And what if you lose?” Qi Ning inquired.

With a resigned sigh, Ye Lin replied, “If I lose, I’ll apologize to you.”

Qi Ning’s eyes grew wide in anticipation of what Ye Lin might add next.

But she remained silent, much to his surprise.

“Why?” Qi Ning pressed, eyes still wide as he looked at Ye Lin.

Ye Lin responded as if it were obvious, “Because I’m the one being challenged, and you’re the challenger. Therefore, my punishment should be less severe than yours.”

Qi Ning was seething with anger.
