Elymia sat on the chair, looking around the simple room.
To say that this is a room is actually being generous, because it contained only a hard, cold stone bed covered in straw, a decaying wooden chair, and an equally dilapidated square table. There was no other furniture in the room.
The small space had only one window high above, consisting of four small holes with the thickness of an arm. Only at noon could a faint ray of sunlight enter, otherwise, the room remained dim and eerie.
The iron door made the place resemble more of a prison, and the lack of any external sounds heightened the overall sense of horror in the room.
“Back then, Mother was here…”
Elymia thought of her mother with a touch of sadness.
The reason she ended up here was largely to make amends for her mother’s past mistakes. Thus, she repeatedly compromised with this disgusting family, even when Reiner and others personally came to rescue her, Elymia remained silent. At that moment, a commotion came from outside.
“…I’ve ordered that no one else be allowed to…”
“…Is my future wife, why…”
“…Wait…”
The iron door opened, and instead of a prince coming to rescue Elymia, it was Edward, her brother and the one about to become her husband.
Elymia had endured numerous humiliations from him before, but this time, she sensed that something was off.
“Master, please go back.”
A maid by her side tried to dissuade him, but Edward gave her a fierce glare.
“If you speak again, I’ll strip you naked and throw you into an alley full of drunks. This household doesn’t need you to manage me.”
Edward’s words silenced the maid, who stood quietly to the side.
Elymia disdainfully looked at her brother, noticing that Edward still held a pipe in his hand, occasionally taking a puff. His expression became extremely excited, and his eyes were extremely erratic, different from ordinary smokers.
The smoke he exhaled made Elymia furrowed her brows; this wasn’t normal tobacco. What had he added to the pipe?
Before she could get an explanation, Edward had already grabbed her wrist and pulled her violently.
Her face contorted in pain, and a faint electric current passed through Elymia’s fair arm.
Crack!
The lightning quickly spread to the point of contact, and Edward felt a numbness before quickly withdrawing his hand.
“Motherfucker, that disgusting woman.”
Edward was referring to Elymia’s mother, who had cast a spell on her daughter. Even after eighteen years, the spell remained strong. If anyone attempted to harm Elymia through physical contact, this merciless lightning would completely paralyze them.
Elymia looked at Edward, who was clutching his throbbing wrist, shaking his head.
“Before that day, you can’t do anything.”
But afterward, she would become his slave.
Whispering to herself, Elymia decided to stay in the Albione family to find a place to belong, but it seemed that staying here would only bring endless pain and torment to herself.
“Hehe, although I can’t do anything to you right now, I’ve thought of another way.”
Edward chuckled, taking out a folding knife from his pocket. Instead of pointing it at Elymia, he aimed it at the maid.
“I’m going to slowly kill this servant, unless you do as I say.”
He grabbed the maid’s wrist, placing the knife against her neck, staring firmly at Elymia.
“What do you want…”
Elymia asked in a low voice. She hadn’t expected Edward to go this far. Was he insane?
“Quickly take off your clothes.”
A stern command came from Edward’s mouth, making Elymia tense.
Even if he couldn’t have her body, did he want to humiliate her?
Seeing the blade slowly pressing against the maid’s fair neck, Elymia sighed, raising her hand to undo her own belt.
“Edward Albione.”
A low voice sounded, and in the next moment, invisible hands snatched the knife from Edward and pressed him against the wall.
“It’s you again!”
Edward, looking at the person, gritted his teeth.
The newcomer was his uncle, George Albione. [1]
Elymia felt a bit dazed, noticing that her usually stern uncle was accompanied by the personal maid, Anvina, who had followed her before. It seemed Anvina had called George for help.
“Before the wedding, you can’t see her. It’s the rule.”
Entering the room, George spoke coldly, glancing at Elymia. Anvina nodded slightly, relieved to see Elymia unharmed.
“You troublesome guy, once I become the head of the family, I’ll definitely banish you to the wilderness of a half-plane!”
Edward struggled forcefully, but he couldn’t match George’s magic.
“Your state isn’t right. What’s this?”
Hearing Edward’s words, George was momentarily puzzled. Soon, he sensed something was amiss. Edward, although somewhat arrogant and reckless, had always shown respect for the elders in the family. He wouldn’t speak such words.
George looked at the pipe in Edward’s hand, took it from him using Mage Hand, and sniffed its scent.
“This isn’t ordinary tobacco. Where did you get it?”
George, though not familiar with tobacco, had heard some rumors. Recently, there was a special drug that could make people extremely dependent and addicted while affecting their mentality. He felt that there might be something similar in the pipe.
“It’s not your turn to discipline me, loser!”
Edward yelled, leaving George momentarily stunned. The magical restraint on George’s hands loosened.
Spitting on the ground, Edward glanced at Elymia and eventually escaped.
George shook his head, then took Anvina with him as they left the room. He closed the iron door behind them.
Anvina cast a final glance at the room and followed George out.
She had initially come to check the situation and deliver a package to Reiner, but witnessing Edward’s erratic entry into the tower, she had a premonition. Anvina immediately found George, explained the situation, and brought reinforcements.
With everyone gone, Elymia returned to the silence.
Feeling her heart beating fast, the thought of becoming a slave to such scum in the future made Elymia genuinely nauseous.
Elymia returned to the chair, intending to rest a bit. However, she noticed a package on her table, seemingly appearing out of nowhere. Attached to the package was a red and black letter.
The envelope had no sender or recipient.
Elymia looked around, then opened the envelope. On the letter, a message was cut and pasted. The message at the beginning was clearly a warning.
