Chapter 214: Taca de Portugal Finals 2020 VI

{GOAL!!!}

{It’s Porto making a statement yet again and they seem to be finally pulling away from their opponents!}

{It’s a dangerous time to score, especially in a game like this, but Porto have their eyes on the accolades!}

{Benfica are stunned!}

{They didn’t need this at this time but Porto isn’t taking no for an answer!}

{With less than ten minutes left of normal time, Is there still a way back for Benfica here?} The commentator fired line after line of explosive words as the Porto players went to celebrate their goal.

The Porto fans couldn’t stay in their seats in their respective houses and a loud collective shout of “GOAL!” could be heard in some nosier areas in the city of Porto.

It was looking more and more likely that the Porto team would end up lifting the Taca de Portugal trophy in about ten minutes from that moment.

In fact, to the Porto fans, their team had already won the game and they might as well just be handed the trophy, but unfortunately, there was a due procedure that had to be followed, and back at the stadium, the Porto players ended their celebrations quickly.

They wanted to quickly resume the game, run down the clock, and then lift the trophy.

Their celebrations could continue then.

Thus the Porto players quickly headed back to their half of the field faster than anyone would expect and soon the match resumed once again.

#87th minute…

After getting their third goal, Porto’s aim was to run down the clock and not take any unnecessary risks so that they could finish the game with their lead intact and then go on to lift the trophy.

However, Benfica denied their notion with every bone in their body and attacked the Porto team with reckless abandon.

They were already two goals behind and time was running out so they needed to get the ball into Porto’s 18-yard box, and they needed to do so fast.

The only way they could save this game was by getting an equalizer and going into extra time, but to do that they needed two goals and against a team like Porto, this was not going to be an easy task.

However, Benfica was desperate, and feeding off their desperation, they kept pushing at the Porto team until finally Goncao Guedes took a shot at Porto’s goal from just outside the box, but it was deflected by a Porto player and flew out of play.

Before the Benfica players could raise their hands to complain about their observations, the shrill sound of the referee’s whistle was heard and the players saw the referee running towards Porto’s 18-yard box with his hand pointed to the penalty spot.

{What’s this!?}

{The referee and the Benfica players seem to think that this is a penalty}

{Danilo Perreira had gotten in the way of the shot and deflected it off the target, but it seems like the ball slammed off his hand there}

{There is an argument going on on the field with the Porto players and the Benfica team involved and it seems to be getting out of hand} the commentator gave full coverage of the situation.

Just like he said, the ball had slammed against Danilo Perreira’s hand and flew out of play which the referee had noticed and was calling a penalty.

The Porto players however tried to argue that it was Goncalo Guedes that had shot the ball at Danilo and that Danilo was just trying to protect himself.

Their argument was that the ball had hit Danilo’s hand and not the other way around, but the desperate Benfica players weren’t interested in hearing such bullsh*t… in their opinions of course.

Thus with tempers already running a little high, a heated exchange of words soon began and it almost turned into a physical fight before the referee and other players intervened and put an end to the fight.

In the end, the referee ended up going to check again with VAR to prevent any doubt from either side and the final decision ended with the penalty being given.

The Benfica fans in their home cheered with joy after seeing their team finally get a lifeline and hope once again blossomed in their hearts.

If their team could score the penalty and then go on to somehow get another goal, then there could still be a chance for Benfica to lift the Taca de Portugal trophy this season.

As for the actual probability of that happening, they didn’t bother trying to calculate as their hopes had made them blind.

The Benfica players also had hope, they still believed and they watched with rapt attention as Carlos Vinicius put the ball down on the penalty spot, took four steps back, and placed his hands on his waist, waiting for the referee’s whistle.

With the players already arranged outside the penalty area, the referee quickly blew his whistle and Carlos Vinicius began approaching the ball with cautious steps before smashing the ball towards the top right corner of the goal.

Reading Vinicius’ body movement, Augustin Marchesin dived towards the right, but the ball elevated past his outstretched arm and slammed into the net.

{GOAL!!!}

{3 : 2}

{A missile of a penalty and Augustin Marchesin was only too human to stop a missile with his bare hands!}

{Benfica have drawn nearer and are only one goal away from giving themselves a fighting chance here!}

{The last minutes of this game promises to be interesting!}

{Can Benfica complete the quest from their fans to find something to stay in the game!?} The commentator’s voice could be heard loud and clear by the people in the stadium as well as those watching the live display of the match anywhere else and with it came a sudden tension that hung in the air.

Carlos Vinicius quickly took the ball from the back of the net and began running back to the middle of the field, not doing much celebration because he knew that this wasn’t the time for such.

They were already pressed for time so what was the point of celebrating a goal when the team was so close to missing out on a domestic trophy?
