Chapter 205: Last Matchday

#78th minute…

Even after getting their fourth goal, Porto didn’t let up and kept attacking, but the Moreirense team fought back hard and kept the Porto team from adding another goal to their scoreboard.

They even went further and began trying to attack the Porto team and they finally got their first shots away in the second half, but due to the efforts of the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in the league so far, their efforts were not able to reach the back of the net.

Currently, the Moreirense team had a corner on the left side of the Porto goal and the players of both teams were pushing hard against each other as they tried to ensure that they would be able to get to the ball when it came flying in.

The referee blew hard on his whistle and the Moreirense player standing over the corner swung the ball into the penalty box with a curling, right-footed cross.

The players shuffled against each other before finally jumping for the ball, but Pepe somehow managed to outjump everyone and reached the ball first, immediately heading it out of the penalty box.

With the ball flying away from Porto’s penalty box, players of both teams ran as fast as they could to reach it, each one of them having different intentions for the ball, but Jason was the one who managed to reach it first thanks to his speed.

Luckily, the ball had also fallen his way so it was easy to beat everyone else for pace and catch the ball on the right side of Porto’s side of the midfield.

As soon as he got the ball under control, he scanned the field and noticed Tiquiniho Soares making a run into the opponent’s half of the field.

He immediately raised his leg to hit the ball, but instead of making the pass toward Tiquiniho, he swept the ball toward the left side of the field with a smooth hit and the ball flew across the width of the field.

Landing on Porto’s left side of the field, the ball was soon brought under control by Telles who then sent a sweeping pass into the path of Tiquiniho Soares who was making the run.

Despite not being the fastest on his feet, Soares didn’t think and just ran as fast as he could, somehow beating his markers for pace and reaching the ball first just outside the Moreirense penalty box, but instead of rushing at the goalkeeper with the ball, Tiquiniho flicked the ball forward with just enough force to set it up for a shot before unleashing his full leg strength on the ball.

The ball thundered off his foot at the goal, curved at an odd angle, and smashed into the top corner of the Moreirense goal despite the Moreirense goalkeeper’s efforts at jumping for the ball.

“GOALLL!!!”

“Porto are at it again!”

“What a thunderous effort from the Porto’s frontman!”

“That’s the kind of performance that makes one the league’s highest goalscorer!

“Will Moreirense’s goalkeeper ever get a break!”

“He’s had more saves than the number of shots his team has on target at the opponent’s goal, yet his efforts are invalidated by Porto smashing five past him!”

“Porto are on a roll here and Moreirense are just about swept away!” The commentator’s voice blared out of the speakers in the stadium as Tiquiniho ran down the sidelines and jumped into a bodyslide, ecstasy written all over his face.

His teammates joined in his celebration and the Porto fans who were watching the game from their homes jumped around in celebration with their team.

None of the Porto players cared about the mental states of their opponents and they just let out all the joy they were feeling at that moment before heading back to their half of the field to await the resumption of the game.

#87th minute…

The game was gradually drawing to a close, but that was only based on the clock, Porto was attacking the Moreirense team like the match would never end.

It was almost like they were punishing Moreirense’s earlier defiance at trying to make an effort that had still been used against them.

But despite already punishing them by turning their efforts into a counterattack and adding one more goal to their tally, Porto played like they weren’t yet done with Moreirense and they kept up their attacking prowess instead of sitting back and letting the match play out.

Moreirense on the other hand, already had their hands full trying to keep the Porto team out, but they could not keep up and Porto soon burst past them on the attack again.

Jason who had just dribbled past his marker had just run into the box from the right side of the field, but some defenders stood in his path to the goal.

He slowed down his run, but just when everyone thought he was about to unleash a dazzling array of skill moves, he instead opted to roll the ball to his left where a newly subbed on Jesus Corona pushed the ball with a smooth flick.

Pushing the ball past Jason, Jesus Corona had enough space to cross the ball into the box, and that was exactly what he did.

Sending the ball across the front of the goal, the ball rolled at a fast pace until it was met by Tiquinho Soares who slammed the ball past the goalkeeper for the second time in the match and for the second time in the last ten minutes.

{After going behind within the first five minutes of the game, they have responded quite fiercely and Moreirense who were once in the lead are nowhere to be seen!}

{This is almost too painful to watch} The commentator expressed his feelings in words and the fans listening wholeheartedly agreed with his words.

Well, the Moreirense team’s fans, not the Porto fans.

Most of the Moreirense fans had already turned off their TVs after Porto’s fourth goal to prevent their minds from suffering any more mental damage, and the few who had continued to watch the rest of the match were now regretting their decision.

The words of the commentator about the match being “almost too painful to watch” were wrong as it was not “almost” too painful to watch, it was too painful to watch for the Moreirense fans who could only watch their team be violated by a rough handling opponent.

The Porto fans on the other hand could not get enough of the ecstatic feeling coursing through their bodies as they watched their team utterly destroy their opponents who had been acting up in the first few minutes of the game.

Their joy knew no bounds and if they were at the stadium, they would have joined together to cheer for their team while shouting out that their team should add a couple more goals to the scoreboard, but unfortunately, they could only content themselves with bragging about their club in social media and in offline football banter, but for the moment, they joined the Porto players in celebrating their sixth goal over Moreirense.

The Porto players at the stadium didn’t hesitate to celebrate their goal despite the Moreirense players looking absolutely dejected at that moment.

The Porto players however didn’t use too much time to celebrate their goal and the match soon resumed, and just like they had done for most of the match, they once again went on the attack and started pressing hard on their opponents, looking like they wanted to turn their six to a seven.

Fortunately for the mental state of the few Moreirense fans still watching the game, the Moreirense team put forth a strong defensive effort and held out until the referee blew the final whistle.

Thus the match finished with the final score of Porto 6 : 1 Moreirense.

The Porto players almost hopped off the field in happiness after the final whistle and the confidence in their steps was visible as they walked off victoriously as opposed to their opponents who looked beaten, dejected, and downtrodden.

The reporters made sure to capture this scene and began thinking of title headlines for when the pictures would be posted along with a well written article that they would be working on writing all night.

The final matchday of the season and it was to be crowned with a final match between Braga and Porto at the Estadio Municipal de Braga

Initially, the Porto fans had high hopes for the match, but when the line-ups for the match were released, the fans did a double take in confusion.

The manager had removed almost every first-team player and was using a squad that would usually feature in domestic cup matches instead of actual league games.

But then recalling that they would be playing the Taca de Portugal against Benfica in the coming games, followed by the resumption of the Europa League, it was pretty obvious that the manager was trying to rest his players.

The match started and Porto managed to open up the game in the 6th minute with a stunning shot from Mattheus Uribe to put Porto in an advantage, but from that point on the game got a lot more difficult and Porto wasn’t able to extend their lead and instead, Braga ended up finding an equalizer through Ricardo Horta in the 54th minute.

Braga then took the lead for the first time twelve minutes later with a well-directed header from Fransergio that eluded Diogo Costa’s grasp.

From then on, Porto did all they could to equalize but fell short and were unable to get a goal to equalize the game till the referee blew the final whistle.
