Chapter 274 Impending Doom (Part 11)
<Our enemy was strong, and we were well aware that we would need to deploy all of our resources if we were going to defeat it. We pooled all of our resources into one coordinated effort, and then we made our move to eliminate this threat in a single blow.
However, in spite of the fact that we combined many of our S and SS-Rank forces, our assault did not even reach that thing.
What did we expect, anyway? I'm still not sure what led us to make such a drastic choice that day, but the attack that we launched had great consequences.
The entity remained motionless, seemingly unaffected by our attack, while we bore the brunt of its looming presence. After that day, the sound of the system was never again heard by anyone.
We were unable to even access our character panel. It was interesting that while our abilities and stats were still active, we were unable to use the system in any way.
Since we were unable to interact with the system, it stands to reason that we were also unable to use the item skills. We were left without the strength or will to launch a second attack, and so we resigned ourselves to leaving everything to fate.
And as soon as we realized that our fate would ultimately be the unavoidable destruction of our world, we gave up all hope.
Because of the existence of this thing, the world we know is deteriorating and becoming more corrupt on a daily basis. Ordinary people perished rather quickly at first, and then item holders, who were unable to take the strain, began to pass away one by one.
Amidst the destruction of our entire world, there was one place that remained untouched by the presence of this entity. It was through this realization that we understood this entity did not come to observe our world but rather had another purpose altogether.
The research building in which Raydon was housed remained unharmed even as all of the structures in the surrounding area crumbled into dust one by one and were incorporated into the ground.
There's no mistaking that our attempts to create our own god are what prompted this god from above to visit our world. As a result of this realization, many people came to the conclusion that the project should be terminated. They also entertained the notion that if they destroyed Raydon, they might be able to make the thing in the sky disappear as well; however, we later discovered that this was yet another wrong decision.
Anyone who held onto this notion and attempted to put it into action vanished without a trace. As they neared the vicinity of the formation, they disintegrated into particles, dissipating into the air. It became glaringly apparent that this entity was not going to allow us to halt the project.
And with that, we resigned ourselves to the truth. On this path, which we embarked upon with the intention of preserving our world, we ended up destroying it through our own actions.
After seeing all of my friends and acquaintances pass away one by one, I realized that I was the only one left alive. Since there was nothing else I could do, I continued to watch our creation which was the cause of all of this devastation.
Even though I didn't know what would happen to him after I passed away or after my entire world was destroyed, I at least wanted to see it through to the bitter end.
Due to the fact that I had lost my connection with the system, I gradually started to lose my powers over the course of time; however, thanks to the assistance of life cores, I was still able to use the formation, and I, therefore, carried on with the project by myself.
Surprisingly, despite my persistent interference with the formation, the eye did not claim my life as it had done to the others. It appeared that similar to myself, the entity was also curious about the outcome, pondering what would transpire next.
At first, we considered changing our plans because of our worries about Raydon's potential transition from greed to success to greed to enjoyment. These plans, however, were rendered meaningless when I lost everything that we had worked so hard to construct. I was completely unattached to them at that point. If Raydon's pursuit of fun through the trials he faced could contribute to his growth and fortitude, I made the resolute choice to wholeheartedly embrace and provide him with that experience.
As a concluding test, I decided to put him up against something that, no matter what he did, he would never be able to conquer.
Raydon had never been the patient or brilliant type to devise long and complex plans, and he had overcome every challenge he had faced thus far purely through his boundless desire to succeed for the sake of enjoyment, so I was eager to see how he would overcome this next impossible challenge.
And in the end, much to my astonishment, he was able to prevail over this obstacle as well, despite the fact that it resulted in the loss of his own life.
By sacrificing his own life and embarking on a final, suicidal mission, Raydon succeeded in defeating the seemingly unbeatable final boss.
To tell you the truth, it made me laugh when I realized that his insatiable desire for pleasure had finally reached this level, which meant that he was willing to disregard even his own life.
I'm hoping that if he can find a way out of this dying world, his fun-loving nature won't shorten his life.
With Raydon's death in the world, we had crafted, the project came to an end, and the formation was sealed. However, the inhibitors we had placed on his body to prevent premature growth and awakening still remained.
If someone in the future finds him and decides to raise him after accepting all of the risks he may bring to your world in the future, it is likely that he will live like a vegetable until he awakens as an item holder and all of these memories return to him.
So if someone does actually discover him and reads this diary, I want to say that even though I don't know whether the person we created will bring about abundance or destruction in the future, at least I can say that the project was successful. >
