Chapter 114: New Skill: Flame Orbs (2)/ Ultimate Spells.
Hunter faced the devil army, but he had set his eyes on another target entirely...
In the depths of his eyes lay a complicated twisting rune that seemed to bounce around within it.
'Devil Eyes: Death Marker.' Hunter chanted the name of his skill. Almost immediately, his vision instantly locked onto the figure of the {Broodmother} seated on the shoulder of the {Flame Devil}, Forza.
Hunter gripped the bow even stronger as he gazed at the devil with hatred, but in the next few moments, he changed the direction of his eyes. He turned to gaze into the devil army...
Because there were so many devils racing at them all at once, it was difficult to aim for a particular one. However, that was never Hunter's intention, to begin with.
"ROAR!" Hunter let out a low roar that seemed to come from the depths of his soul as he dragged the string of the bow backward.
The flames pouring out of his body seemed to intensify at that moment, pouring steadily into the bow, creating a slender arrow of flames.
It took a few seconds for Hunter to complete the spell, but he was finally done once the number of flame attributes mana in the air had reached peak saturation...
"All consuming, ever burning... Turn into a scourge that eats into the earth, a pillar of unquenchable flames..." The chant was only a few seconds long before the spell was finally called out.
"Purgatory: Pillar of the Flaming god, first order..."
As soon as the arrow was released from its cage, the very air seemed to be tainted with a bright orange, just like the brightest of stars right before its death. The arrow quickly turned from an arrow to a huge flaming pillar that could support the foundations of a building.
A breath of steaming hot air escaped from Hunter's mouth as he spoke up in a cold voice, "Hmph! If you think you can win, you'll have to try your hardest to take me out, devil." Hunter said into empty air, almost as though he was talking to someone that wasn't there.
The air seemed to explode everywhere the pillar of flames passed through. In the blink of an eye, it had crashed headfirst into the tide of devils approaching. As soon as it made contact, an earth-shattering explosion coursed through the ground with enough power to make the foundations of the ground they stood on quake and rumble.
BANG!
Broken limbs, fresh hot blood, and the scent of burning flesh seemed to fill the air at that moment. The attack had created an explosion and smoke, so much so that it seemed to try swallowing the skies above the battlefield.
Cain, as well as the other members of the party all watched in shock at the scene straight out an apocalypse that had just played out before them...
"Nobody told me we have a tactical nuke on our hands..." Vincent said, a flabbergasted expression on his face.
"I didn't know this either..." Cain said in shock as well, but his shock was for a different thing entirely.
He was shocked to see both Steve and Hunter use chants before they popped out spells so powerful, the ground shook at their might.
He had been trying to create the improved version of {Fireball} but had failed in all his attempts, leading him to be in a state of semi-confusion and uncertainty...
Cain knew what chanting was for, but he didn't think that was what he needed at the moment. He didn't need a guide for a skill that already existed, he was trying to create a new one entirely. Even though it was based on an original spell.
So he began on his tenth failed attempt... In Thirty minutes, he had tried, yet he failed every single time. An even bigger problem was that he knew exactly what was causing his failure...
Trying to get a spell to run on incomplete parts was like trying to solve a question that was missing a few vital prices of information. It not only made the question harder than it seemed, but it also made it near impossible to solve.
However, that was exactly what he was trying to do. Using a chant wasn't going to help much...
"The fact still remains that I need to find a way for this skill to work tonight. What I need is something to act as the replacement for the rune components. But what?' Cain couldn't help but think as he pondered over the spell.
The fight began getting more intense as the {Bladed Devils} and the {Devil Fighters} began to gain more ground faster than the {Bladeless Devil Imps}. What this meant, was that they could now surround the party of Cain and attack them from all sides.
"Damn it! They are getting closer..." David said as they were almost within attacking range of the {Miasma Devils}.
The devils instantly broke into two lines that began circling the group once they reached a certain distance. They cut both left and right, intending to surround Cain and the others.
"If we get surrounded, we are toast!" Dan said as he began preparing a defensive spell.
However, before he could pull it off, Vincent was already pissed...
"Hmph! Seems like I need to pull out the big guns!" Vincent said with a huff.
The look on the fatty's face told everyone that he was finally done playing around. Despite his looks, he also wanted to live and get stronger as well...
"Come forth, Leviathan..."
As soon as those deep words fell out of his mouth the entire world seemed to settle into a moment of silence.
The gun in his arms that didn't seem to be able to stop firing finally stopped after some time. Instead, a huge change instantly overtook the rifle.
Tens of magic circles appeared out of thin air as they circulated the rifle. In the blink of an eye, the entire gun had undergone a huge transition. From a mix between a long-range sniper and a semiautomatic to a straight-up bazooka. The muzzle of the gun enlarged, and the spiral cloud-patterned runes seemed to include a boundless ocean all of a sudden.
Vincent's eyes glowed as he held onto the now extremely huge cannon of a gun...
"Cover me... It's going to take a while for the shot to charge. If I can get the shot in, we can blaze a hole straight through them." Vincent said. Numerous magic circles began circling the giant cannon as the shot was being prepared. Streaks of mana poured out of his body through the magic circles, and into the gun, leading to all the clouds and ocean patterns
It was at this moment that the devils began their attack...
Most of the spawn devils usually engaged in melee battles, and as such, they had a disadvantage in ranged battles. However, this was not the case for the {Miasma Devils}.
The {Miasma Devils} were a special type of spawn devil because if left alone, they could cause the downfall of human society on their lonesome if they weren't stopped by those that were fortunate enough to possess access to the system.

Due to the {Infection} skill, they could turn an infinite amount of normal humans into flesh-eating zombies that could multiply and completely decimate the human race. They could engage in melee combat, and the debuff from their {Poison Clouds} skill was so terrible, it could cause serious problems for Cain and the others.
A few minutes later, Cain and the rest had been surrounded by the devil army...
"This isn't good guys. We have to break out of the encirclement, or we'll get bombarded to death from all sides when they get close enough!" Li, who specialized in melee combat yelled out to the ranged attackers.
"If we move now, the formation will break, and our attacks will lose the effects they have, which will allow them to sneak in and break us up. Once that happens, it's game over. We can't move just yet..." David said as he kept his shield and guard up against the potential devil attacks.
"Give up the resistance, humans... Offer yourselves up to fate. Your destiny is to become nourishment for us." Suddenly, a deep booming voice echoed out from the other side of the battlefield where the {Hulking Behemoths} were gathered.
Three of the hundred {Hulking Behemoths}, one with a bright orange devil core, the other with a yellow earthy one, and the last with an icy blue devil core that released a frost that seemed to pour out from Niflheim itself...
"Submit your souls, and we will make your deaths swift and painless..." The one with the icy blue devil core said as it raised its bladed forelimbs and pointed it at Cain and his party.
"Devil Arte: Flames!"
"Devil Arte: Frost!"
"Gravity Control!"
Three magic circles appeared before the {Hulking Behemoths} that had separated themselves from the crowd.
The {Hulking Behemoth} with the orange devil core let out a menacing chuckle as the magic circle that appeared before it split into two, then four, then sixteen, before finally stopping at sixty-four...
"Damn! I've never seen a spell like this before..." Steve exclaimed as he watched on with intensity in his eyes. Cain also watched the devil even as he released his {Fireballs} without stopping.
"Fear the wrath of the devil race, you puny humans..."
The magic circles immediately went from static to very mobile in just a few seconds. In the blink of an eye, hundreds of fireballs tinted with a peculiar edge of darkness were launched at Cain and his group, scorching the already black ground even more as they raced across the sky.
"Here's where I come in. Bulwark of extreme Frost!" Dan yelled in excitement as he slammed his feet into the ground. Mana flowed from all directions as he turned into his {Frost Giant} form. In the blink of an eye, a huge shield of towering ice had appeared before them.
BANG!
BANG!
BANG!
The balls of flames slammed into the ice wall repeatedly, melting it even as Dan worked hard to maintain the spell...
"We've been had. If Dan shields from this side, we will have no way to attack from the front. This will give them the time they need to close the gap!" Susan yelled out in frustration.
"Gimme a few more minutes. I need only a few more minutes for the spell to be completely charged up;" Vincent yelled as sweat poured down his face.
'I don't have any spells that can cover large distances. The ones that can are single target skills.' Cain thought to himself. Right now, he was multitasking between attacking the devils and creating a new spell in his head, so he couldn't help much.
"It is futile to resist, humans. Let me add to your despair. Gravity Control: Bone-Crushing!"
The magic circle that was created before suddenly expanded until it covered Cain and the rest. At the center of the magic circle was a rune that had the image of a mountain and a roaring devil standing above it.
A mighty force unlike they had ever experienced pressed down on them forcefully...
{You are under the effects of the spell, Bone-Crushing...}
{Movement and attack speed reduced by 40%...}
