Global Awakening: Monster Taming Necromancer

Chapter 97: Here we are

Jael didn't sleep immediately, he couldn't. He first fed it with monster cores, then he turned Hermit's power into sense, and he scanned the room and surroundings. He didn't find anyone hiding in the room.

He breathed a sigh of relief and opened his eyes. He sat up and touched Temur in the neck, but there wasn't anything wrong with the big guy. Except he was sleeping too deeply that he didn't even register that someone was touching him.

Jael sighed because now he had to stand guard till morning and that was what he did. He was feeling tired when the first light started to spread its light so he figured there wouldn't be any harm in taking a small nap.

When he woke up, it was daylight and mid-morning; Temur had washed and dressed.

"You look terrible for someone who woke so late." Temur raised his brows at him.

Jael groaned as light entered his eyes, he squinted and closed his eyes again. "You look too refreshed for someone who slept with a knife on his neck."

So he explained what happened to the big guy as he slowly dragged himself out of bed. "... I'm thinking Cormac knows about it. Just a hunch." He shrugged.

Temur was silent for a long while, and Jael looked up at him. "What?"

He shook his head and tapped his chin, he was frowning slightly. "I'm just thinking. We don't have experience dealing with humans and other races like that. We can deal with monsters; they are predictable, but other beings...."

"I just imagine what would have happened if they were here to kill us. Seriously, this is the kind of thing Litha takes care of. She doesn't even trust her own shadow." Temur said.

Jael understood him. Fighting monsters is better than dealing with humans and other races. At least monsters won't smile at you only to slip a dagger into your ribs later.

Jael went for his wash after and then they both went to see their guide. They found Cormac in his room, the wan was currently standing upside down with his middle finger.

Sweat dripped onto the floor as he huffed, but his posture remained straight. "You...are awake." He slowly bent and put his legs down. "I'm just catching up on my exercises."

Even though Awakeners have strength, they still have to train and perfect it. Cormac knew he won't ever advance in his rank so the only thing he was doing was using all the power in his silver rank. ".....have you two do your training this morning?"

Jael and Temur shared looks. Maybe when everything is normal, Temur can train, but on a normal day, Jael doesn't train like that. "Yes," he added quickly. "But that's not why I'm here. Do you know about the people that came to our room at midnight?"

Cormac didn't deny it. "This is how they check out strangers. Either someone vouches for them like I did, or they'll do their investigation. But they still insist on checking you guys themselves."

"And you let them drug our food?"

Cormac didn't show it, but as he glanced at the green eyes, he felt a lick of fear. Even the big one, he doesn't want to fight either of them. "It wasn't your food that was drugged. It was the doorknob, a dust type that enters the skin through the palm."

A chill touched their spine. What if it was poison? Indeed, this town is dangerous. There wasn't much to say after that but Jael kept his eyes on Cormac as they made their way downstairs.

Even as they were their food and drink, he watched everything that was happening. "Here. It's an all-around antidote potion. It won't fight off very powerful poison of course." Jael handed it to Temur.

Cormac watched them with a hard smile but they ignored him.

Temur waited a bit before he leaned forward and spoke with a low voice. "Now then, you said something about where we can buy information right?"

Cormac told them there's a local organization where you can buy information, not only about the town but about everything going on in the Tower.

Cormac drinks the thick beer in his cup and sighs loudly, his face relaxed. "I did say that, but I never said anything about taking you there. Especially not with my VIP card. But yes, they sell the best information around here."

"I'm just your guide after all, but that doesn't mean I know the inner things like...."

Temur closed his eyes until the veins that stood on his head relaxed. "What do you want?"

"You newbies always have gold. You can pay me in gold or monster cores."

They ended up paying with gold, and Cormac made it vanish faster than a blink. Then he told them to follow them and they began their strange journey through the town.

In the bright light, they saw the full state of it; just like any normal town, there are good and bad places, but the difference here is that almost everyone is armed and dressed in back. And the streets are dirty.

"We are entering the territory of the Silent Daggers now; please be careful of what you say and how you behave. They'll kill you first before asking question."

Maybe because this place is under a gang it was a bit better than the neutral block. There weren't any dead bodies or even beggars on the street.

Jael recognized those who belonged to the gang with the way they carried themselves, and others moved out of their way. "Where exactly are we going?"

"If the black axe are mercenaries, then the silent daggers deal with information, smuggling, and assassination. Things like that. We are going to one of their main building. I have a VIP card for most of the gang here. And that's why I don't come cheap."

"And here we are!"

They stopped in front of a building that wasn't much bigger than the inn they left behind.
