Chapter 30: I will be your Host
It had been three days after their battles and their last minute saving and Litha was still scolding Jael.
"You don't know! Have you forgotten how much firepower you extracted through the bone back in the cave? And that was from a little piece how then do you think a whole jaw of a big monster would react!
"I'm doing doing things with Idiots!" She threw up her hands.
They were still in the hotel they rented since they were discharged the previous day from the hospital where the healer had healed them. Then throughout that yesterday they had to answer questions from the GUV who had gotten wind of things.
Fortunately the explosion had also destroyed the body of the monster and the paladins so they just write it off as normal zones abnormalities. But as Litha put it 'unfortunately' there's no refund from them.
"Calm down, Litha. Jael saved our lives. Again." Temur said from his place. He was lying on his couch, his bandaged head rested against a soft pillow.
Litha paused, gathering her thoughts. "You are right. And I've already thanked him but don't think that can save you from scolding! And I also saved our lives too!"
As Litha told it. She woke up during the final battle with the paladin, she saw Jael cast the spell and surrounded herself and Temur in the 'thickest' shield she ever made before she passed out again.
Luckily, Jael was protected by his own magic.
Then she woke up again just before the moon started showing and had to drag them out of the zone. It was a stroke of luck that the rot monster had driven almost all monsters out of the zone in the afternoon.
She couldn't count the amount of times she passed out while dragging them out of the zone but using potions made her a bit stronger but eventually she fell unconscious at the edge of the zone where the GUV officials found them.
"Ahahahaha." Jael smiled. He was just glad they were able to make it. "Thank you Litha." It was the first time someone would be saving him.
She looked at him. Jael was already healed, even his monster is doing well but his magic, just like the three of them, had been used up but with enough rest it's already recovering. "No need to thank me. We all did our parts."
But she sighed.
"You're still thinking about the monster cores."
Litha bit her lips. "All our money have been used up on the Ascendant healer in the hospital. Even the few monsters and the cores we brought have all been sold to add to the money of our treatment."
Temur winced from his place. It was because of him that they had to spend such amount of money. His healing took a lot and two Ascendant and one Climber healer to heal him to full health. They had to stop his brain from shutting down.
Jael cleared his throat. "We did gain a lot of essence from the monsters. Especially that big one." Even now he could feel the essence accumulated in his Codex.
"There's that too." Litha allowed. "But the test is in two days and we'll have to spend a lot in the next floor. Not to talk of money to rent a new zone in the upper floor. Although it's a bit far, the monsters there are many."
Temur cleared his throat. "The GUV gave us another zone as compensation though."
Litha shook her head. "I've think about that but we are not at full health. We can't risk getting wounded when the test is so close."
"But we are Awakeners. Isn't this the type of thing we can do? I say let's grind for the remaining two days without rest. We'll gain essence and money. We can rest in floor 101." Jael said.
Litha looked at Temur then back at Jael. Then she smiled. "Whatever you say, Necromancer."

The day of the Test and Thayer Argent was already hating it, not the test per say but the Awakeners that surround him.
"What do you think it'll be?"
"I heard the tests on floor 102 and 101 are for cutting the size of Climbers. They will reduce everything they can. It's even called the bloody tests!"
"Well, you should be okay. You have a powerful Codex."
"Huh! Even I with a common Codex will climb!"
Thayer shook his head with a sigh. He wished there's a way to reduce the size without cramping up to fifty thousands people in one place. He looked around but he didn't spot who he was looking for– Jael and the others.
"Ah. I guess with the much numbers and with tests taking place in five other places then it couldn't be helped." Thayer shrugged. Even he had not allowed his team to come with him since it is a solo test.
Suddenly a platform floated above letting out a screeching sound that resonated through the gathering. "Hellllllo!" A feminine and playful voice shouted out. "I will be your host for today!"
A projection filled the air, a woman with pink skin and black clothes that hugged her curves was shown. She smiled at them. "Oh my! This is looking like the largest set to climb in a while. It's going to be so fuuuuuuun!"
Thayer watched the projection. "I thought the floor owner would show themselves, but I guess with the massive numbers then it's not possible."
"We will start in a few second and once the gate closed shut then we will not be admitting anyone again. But then again, who in their right mind would be late for something like this?"
Thayer nodded along with her, who indeed? When everyone have been waiting eagerly for the test.
Suddenly gasping and shocked mumbling spread through the Awakeners and Thayer looked at the projection again. It was showing the gate where three Awakeners just walked in.
"What the...." They looked familiar but as if they had walked through the valley of fire and brimstone. "They must have lost their mind."
