Chapter 59 Hidden
Chapter 59 Hidden
The man had a revolver in his hands, but it wasn't pointed at them yet. It seemed as if he knew what they were capable of. "Are you a Foreign Survivor?" Jenkins suddenly asked as the man got closer. He didn't show any signs of resistance as he even slowly put down his weapon.
"I am… And I believe you're one as well." The man answered.
His answer obviously relieved Jenkins and Marcus, but they also shook their heads at the same time.
"We're not Foreign Survivors… At the very least, after we started hearing the voice of the Lord of the Realms, we were getting addressed as Scavengers… I'm Jenkins… We heard that the Foreign Survivors would save this world…" Jenkins replied.
"We're only here as we want to complete a mission that is given to us. We're not enemies. We didn't want to get caught as we don't know how you guys would react if you learned that there's a treasure hidden in this place." Marcus explained. He didn't mind revealing this information in order to sound genuine. ***
"Scavengers? You're not from a different world who were sent here?" Shane asked while still maintaining his distance and readiness to shoot. The man who introduced himself as Jenkins was a tall and thin man with a pale and gaunt face. He had short and messy brown hair and a scruffy beard. He wore a leather jacket, a hoodie, jeans, and boots. He also had a backpack and a sharp knife.
He looked like a typical scavenger, except for his eyes. They were bright and cunning as if they could see through any disguise…
"Yes… We were born and raised here. Although the world is already infested with Zombies, it wasn't like this 30 years ago." Jenkins replied with a hint of helplessness in his voice.
He then introduced his companion, Marcus. He was a short and chubby man with a round and somewhat red face. He also had short and curly blond hair and a clean-shaven face. Marcus seemed a bit nervous, unlike Jenkins.
Anyway, Shane observed this man carefully... He wore a parka, a sweater underneath, cargo pants, and sneakers. He also had a duffel bag, a crowbar, and a crossbow!
Nonetheless, what marked his feature was his nose, which was a bit larger than normal.
"Ahem… The past doesn't matter now. We received a mission from the mysterious voice to collect treasures. Once we collect 50 of them, we will earn the right to obtain awesome Scanvenger Skills. Anyway, since we're both fighting against the Zombies, can you allow us to leave? We're no longer planning to take the Treasure in your territory." Of course, after realizing that there was a treasure hidden in the Church, Shane knew that he couldn't pass this up. Nôv(el)B\\jnn
Shane felt a surge of curiosity and a slight greed. No matter what, he was still a human…
He wondered what Treasure it was and decided to see it for himself. "Can you tell what kind of Treasure it is?"
Jenkins and Marcus exchanged a look. They realized that they had said too much. "Ahemm… We can't really tell. However, the treasures that my nose can find are mostly things that have little value. It can be an expensive mirror, a golden chain, a black forest honey, a delicious fruit, and others. It may not be worth your time." Marcus explained, and he was certainly telling the truth.
The treasures that they could find were just valuable items in certain situations. However, Shane didn't buy it. He could tell that something was off. "Don't lie to me, intruders. I can tell you're hiding something. Tell me where the Treasure is, or I'll shoot you right now." Shane sternly spoke as he didn't like to have this conversation for long. He had plenty of things to do. Furthermore, he wasn't even sure whether they really meant any harm since he caught them before they were able to act. Jenkins and Marcus jolted as they realized that they had encountered a difficult Foreign Survivor this time. They knew they had no choice but to tell more... "It's in the Church in your territory. If you already explored that place and failed to find it, it will also be difficult for us to locate it. There might be a secret tunnel, a hidden door, or a secret compartment somewhere where the Treasure is hidden." Marcus replied with exasperation.
'So it's the church, huh…'
Shane felt a shock and a thrill. He couldn't believe that there was a treasure hidden in the Church... They had been staying there for more than a week now. "Really? How do you know that?" Shane asked.
At this time, the two Scavengers explained their Rare Talent to Shane. Nonetheless, Shane still felt doubt and suspicion. He couldn't be sure if they were telling the truth or not.
In the end, he decided to test them and see for himself. "Show me. Take me to the entrance. And don't try anything funny, or I'll shoot you." Jenkins and Marcus felt reluctant and helpless. They knew they had no choice but to obey. Their talents were not meant for fighting in the first place. "Okay. Okay. We'll show you. But please don't kill us. We're just doing our job." "We'll see about that. Now move." Shane said. Although these two seemed to be telling the truth, he couldn't just leave them be. Shane then called for Leo and Harper to help him watch the two scavengers as they led him to the Church after confiscating their weapons.
Leo and Harper then stopped their work as they picked up their weapons to stand behind the two Scavengers. Soon, Shane, Leo, and Harper followed Jenkins and Marcus to the Church. Well the Church was already transformed into a decent shelter for several people so it no longer looked like a Church from the inside. The large hall, which should have rows of pews, a pulpit, and a cross, could no longer be seen… Instead, there were divisions made of wooden planks like rooms for each of them.
Marcus then led them to a corner of the hall, where they saw a dilapidated painting of a saint. Half of it was even burned and could no longer be recognized.
However, as he moved the painting aside, it revealed a hidden door. Shane's eyes lit up as soon as he saw this...
'Why didn't I think of doing that?!'
