Gene was a young man who grew up on the streets of a large city. Since he had no family or relatives he could rely on, he had to survive by stealing, begging, and fighting. He learned to be tough, cunning, and ruthless at such a young age. He was simply trying to survive every day and could only dream of a bright future from time to time.

One day, he was caught stealing from a noble's carriage. He expected to be executed or thrown into prison. It was something that had happened to his fellow beggars who dared to steal from noble families.

But to his surprise, the noble offered him a deal. He said he was looking for recruits for his army, and he saw potential in Gene. The noble said he would spare his life and give him a chance to become a knight if he agreed to serve him loyally and faithfully.

Well, Gene had no choice but to accept. He was taken to a training camp, where he was taught how to fight, ride, and obey. He endured harsh discipline, brutal drills, and fierce competition. Nonetheless, just like what the noble told him, he indeed has a decent level of talent. He proved to be a quick learner, a skilled fighter, and a natural leader. He rose through the ranks, from a common soldier to a legionnaire. He earned respect, admiration, and fear from his peers and superiors. In just eight years, he became a loyal and faithful servant of his Lord.

He fought in many battles, against zombies, bandits, rebels, and other enemies. He killed countless foes, saved many lives, and achieved many victories on the battlefield. After another six years had passed, he was awarded medals, honors, and rewards. He became one of the Royal Knights at the age of 27.

He was already happy with this achievement and believed that he already achieved his dream.

But then, everything changed…

One day, he was sent on a mission to scout a forest near the border. He was leading a small squad of elite soldiers. They were supposed to gather information, avoid confrontation, and report back. It was supposed to be a simple and safe task.

Unfortunately, that didn't happen …

As they were riding through the forest, they saw a dark gray fog in the distance. They were curious and cautious when they approached it.

They decided to investigate while keeping a safe distance… However, they still needed to approach the fog. Soon, as they tried touching the fog, it suddenly twisted and contorted as if it was alive! n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

The fog covered all of them, faster than they could react. It swiftly engulfed them, swallowed them, transported them somewhere they didn't know. They felt a strange sensation, a mix of fear and confusion as they felt that they were eaten by a void. They all tried screaming, but no one heard them aside from themselves. Just like that, they all vanished, lost in time.

Time passed, and whenever Gene woke up, he felt that many years had passed… However, after being awake for so many days, he would sleep once again, and this process repeated so many times that he could no longer count them.

Finally, after who knows how long, Gene heard a strange voice… It seemed to have come from the Lord of the Realm and explained to him the existence of the Zombies, his Skills, the Foreign Survivors, and the fact that generations had already passed ever since!

He couldn't even question the voice that spoke to him as he found himself in a different place. He was disoriented, but he still realized what kind of place this was.

'A badly restored Manor…' Gene commented in his mind.

He looked around and saw a group of people behind the wooden fence of the manor. They were staring at him with curiosity and wariness. Then, a man who introduced himself as the Foreign Survivor named Shane approached him. He had a friendly smile and a calm demeanor.

"Hello, I'm Shane. Welcome to my territory. You are the latest inhabitant who was brought here by my talent. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but I hope you can adjust to your new home. What is your name and where are you from?" Shane asked while observing the man's appearance. The man who stepped out of the fog this time seemed to be in his late twenties. He was a young blonde Knight with a handsome face and a sturdy physique. He wore full armor and carried a sword tied to his belt. He looked like a seasoned warrior based on how he carried himself and his gait. Nonetheless, Shane could tell that the knight was confused.

Shane felt a mix of curiosity and respect for the newcomer. After inviting the man inside the estate, Shane started asking the man some questions.

"I'm Gene… A knight from a Kingdom in the past." Gene said in a weak voice. Shane was a bit confused at this introduction. "I know I've been trapped in the gray fog for generations, and the Kingdom I'm serving has probably been lost by now. Even if it survived for long… The Zombies Outbreak had probably wiped it out." Gene explained without waiting for Shane to ask. After Shane introduced everyone else and Gene confirmed that he would serve the Foreign Survivor to save this continent from the Zombies, he decided to share his current set of Skills.
