Chapter 38: Impaled
Chapter 38: Impaled
Shane felt excited as soon as he saw the loot.
60 Exp Points! That was quite a lot, and he also obtained one of the Instant Experience Potions a while ago!
Without delay, he looted the other Crawler Zombie Leader.
[ You have earned 60 Experience Points. ]
[ You have earned 1 Reputation Point. ]
[ Loots obtained: 2 Item Upgrade Crystal, 2 Zombie Cores, 500mL Water, 5 Bread, 100mL Crawler Leader Zombie Blood, 1 Spirit Enhancement Bottle ]
Furthermore, this loot confirmed that he could only obtain reputation points from the Leader-Type Zombies.
"It looks like we have some time to rest..." Harper said after noticing that there were no more zombies coming for them.
"That's good... Let's repair the obstacles and traps fast..."
Anna said as she worked on it.
Shane agreed, but before that, he materialized the instant Experience Potion from his inventory and drank it immediately.
[ You have obtained 100 Experience Points ]
"I still didn't level up?" Shane was confused and a little disappointed.
He thought that with the 120 points from the Leader Zombies, including the experience points he got from the Crawler and Walker Zombies, and another hundred points from the potion, he would finally reach level 10 and possibly get 2 Memory Spheres.
However, he really underestimated this.
In the end, Shane could only accept the reality... After a few moments, he then decided to check the Chat board...
However, as soon as he opened it, he saw a message from the system instead.
[ You cannot access the Chat Room during the Zombie Wave. Please come back once the Zombie Wave is over. ]
"So we can't cooperate with other Survivors during the Zombie Wave?" Shane wondered as he thought about the other Survivors nearby.
To be honest, ever since he learned that it's possible to escape from the Zombie Wave, he has already considered that a few Survivors might pass through his territory.
Well, it wouldn't be surprising if other Survivors decided to run away instead of fighting the Zombie Wave.
However, if they really passed through his territory, that could make his situation worse as they might actually attack him as well.
'There's no point thinking about it now... Let's just hope no one would pass through here.' Shane thought as he helped his companions fix the obstacles.
After fixing their crude fence, they took a short break and ate some of the bread and water they looted. Shane also used some of the Item Upgrade Crystals to improve their weapons and equipment.
However, the limit was still the Exceptional Rank since the number of Crystals needed to advance it to the next level was 30 Item Upgrade Crystals... Thanks to this, Anna's Nail Bat had reached the Exceptional Rank and Harper's Hunter Set reached the Tier 3 like the ones Shane was wearing.
Although he could collect 30 Crystals to upgrade one Exceptional Item, he felt it would be better to have a more balanced set of equipment.
After all, he wanted Harper and Anna to have decent items so they could help him better in this Zombie Wave.
After some rest, they felt more refreshed and ready for the next wave.
They didn't have to wait long. After 5 minutes, they heard a loud and terrifying sound.
Roooaaarr~
It was the sound of fifty or so Zombies closing towards them.
They looked outside and saw a horde of Zombies that were a mix of Walker Zombies and Runner Zombies.
Walker Zombies walked slowly and clumsily, but they were persistent and numerous. However, this time, their bodies were equipped with leather armor, making only their heads a perfect target.
They made a low and guttural noise as they approached the shelter.
Runner Zombie, on the other hand, looked really dangerous.
They ran fast and agilely, and they looked ferocious.
They had lean and muscular bodies, and some of them even wore sporty and colorful clothes.
The three people in the shelter swiftly grabbed their weapons and got into position.
Luckily, the obstacles they prepared this time had several pointed metal pipes on the ground, and they could impale the Runner Zombies!
Thud! Thud! Thud!
As expected, before they could reach Shane's shelter, ten or so Runner Zombies who didn't care about the obstacles were impaled! Although they were still alive, they would become an easy kill for them later on.
Of course, Shane didn't use his Revolver once again as he knew he had to save his bullets for the most threatening targets.
Instead, he used his hatchet to chop the Runner Zombies that got too close from behind the metal fence and wires...
Harper, on the other hand, swung his pickaxe at the Runner Zombies, trying to break their skulls.
Unfortunately, his spear was broken in half by the Crawler Leader and they were used as spikes to impale the zombies instead.
'Die!'
Thud! Thud!
Anna then hit the Walker Zombies with her nail bat, trying to smash their brains.
They fought bravely and fiercely and won against the Zombies after about half an hour of battle...
But then, the situation that Shane feared happened.
Just like what Shane imagined before, a Survivor chased by several Zombie Dogs ran into his area!
'Not good...'
The Survivor was a young woman with long blonde hair and a leather jacket. She had a backpack and a pistol, but she looked exhausted and scared.
Behind her, the Zombie Dogs were large and muscular, with furless skin and sharp teeth.
They had collars and tags, indicating that they were once pets or strays. They made a loud and angry noise as they chased their target!
"We need to save her..." Anna muttered as she saw the frail woman being chased helplessly.
However, Shane shook his head as he noticed that the blonde woman had a couple of bite marks on her body.
