Chapter 190: Shelter
"No… It shouldn't leave its nest… Did someone beat me to it? Ughh… There's no way these Foreign Survivors, who had only come here for a little over a month, were already stronger than me… That's impossible." Eldric shook his head as he believed that the Foreign Survivors were still adapting to this world.
Although he heard a mysterious voice telling him that the Foreign Survivors would lead and protect this world, he wasn't someone who would rely on someone else to stay alive… He had been living here and had survived the Zombies for a long time, so he knew what he had to do, and no one could tell him so…
He even felt as if the number of Zombies had grown a lot after their arrival, so he really didn't want to get closer to them as much as possible since they could somehow attract tons of zombies.
Anyway, Eldric didn't give up…
He scanned the shadows, the Kris Blade at the ready, but after searching for a while, there was still no sign of the creature.
A sense of unease settled over him. Where had the Flesh Puker gone? Had it sensed his approach and fled, or was it lying in wait, preparing to ambush him when he least expected it?
Eldric knew he could not let his guard down. The Flesh Puker was out there, somewhere, and he would find it.
For now, he had to find another Flesh Puker Zombie. If this place wasn't good, then there must be other places.
As he walked around to find a place to rest, he felt something off and quickly held his weapon to be on guard.
Twang
Suddenly, he heard the sound of an arrow being released, and in an instant, he heard land close to him…
Thud!
The arrow quivered in the ground, a mere inch from Eldric's boot, its fletching still fluttering from the flight.
His heart skipped a beat, not from fear, but from the realization that the one observing him wasn't a zombie but a human.
He raised his eyes to the treetops, where the silhouettes of several figures could be seen.
If Shane had been here, he would have recognized them as Lily and Elsa…
Lily's stance was relaxed yet alert, the mark of someone who wielded the power of nature itself… She was the one with Wood Element Affinity Talent. Elsa stood beside her, secretly commanding the water beneath Eldric... She was the one with Water Element Affinity Talent.
"I mean no harm," Eldric immediately called out, his voice steady despite the tension. "I'm searching for a Flesh Puker Zombie. It's vital that I find it... I thought it was in a nearby cave but it's not. If you don't want me here, I'll leave."
The camp stirred, whispers carried on the wind as the survivors peered down at the stranger in their midst. Lily and Elsa exchanged a glance, a silent conversation passing between them before they signaled the archers to stand down.
"There was only one cave nearby, and it was raided a few days ago," Lily explained as she felt that it was a good thing that it was raided since he felt that this person would just die if he had gone there... "Another camp, to the east, they took what was left."
Elsa nodded and continued to explain. "If the Flesh Puker was there, it's long gone. You might find answers with them."
Gratitude flickered in Eldric's eyes as he sheathed the Kris Blade. "Thank you. I'll seek them out at first light. Can I stay nearby to rest?"
"Yes… We're using an Anti-Zombie Aroma, so weaker zombies would not come here… Just don't do anything funny since we have sentries guarding this 24/7…"
Eldric just smiled at this as he took a spot in a nearby tree that was probably used by the previous sentries as well.
The night passed quickly, and thankfully, Eldric was still able to open his eyes…
'The people of this camp are kind… I should do some transactions with them someday…' Eldric muttered as he prepared to leave…
"Thank you for guarding me…" Eldric said as he left the area.
As the sun crested the hills, Eldric's journey brought him to the camp that Lily and Elsa had spoken of.
It was quite difficult to find at first, but as soon as he found some traces in the ground, trees, and rocks, the traces of the camp became more apparent to see, and soon, he found the fortress.
"Awesome~ This looked more fortified than Herman's shelter…" Eldric muttered as he also silently prayed that the people inside weren't terrible ones.
Anyway, the shelter was truly fortified, not just by walls, but by the people living there…
He saw some workers cutting trees, breaking rocks, digging trenches, and others! Furthermore, he saw some of their bodies to be absurdly big.
"What are those? Are they still humans?" Eldric muttered, but he suddenly felt threatened as he looked at the watchtower.
Someone was actually observing, and it seemed that they had a weapon better than crossbows!
'That's a rifle!' Eldric's eyes lit up as he recognized that fabled weapon!
This shelter is the real deal…
Then, Eldric took a deep breath as he had to do this right.
He approached the gates slowly with his weapon still sheathed. He doesn't have plans of drawing it out.
Then, he was noticed by the other workers, who simply looked at him for a moment before returning to their work.
'They don't care about me, huh…' Eldric wryly smiled since if he was seen by the Scavengers, they would immediately bow at him…
He would only get treated like nothing in front of these Foreign Survivors.
"I come in search of the drops of a Flesh Puker Zombie," he announced. "I believe it may have been here."
The guards eyed him warily… Nonetheless, he was ignored for a moment…
As he was getting impatient, the guard seemed to have received instructions and allowed his entry…
"You mentioned the Flesh Puker Zombie… The estate's butler would like to talk with you… We won't be taking your weapon, but if you plan to mess around, you'll realize you're in the wrong place." one guard said as he opened the gate…
