Chapter 820
Chapter 820
Qimu Xi looked at Xia Xiaolei, who lay before her. Her hand, which was on the hilt of a short sword, gripped tighter and tighter.
Xia Xiaolei’s whole body was shaking violently, as though there was electricity coursing through it.
The layer of organic carapace which had been covering his whole body had mostly fallen off, leaving only withered skin, muscles and tissues.
If this continues, he will die…
Finally, Qimu Xi could not bear it any longer. She pulled out the sword in her hand.
The connection between Xiaolei and the mutant must be cut!
“Stop… stop…”
Slowly, Xia Xiaolei opened his eyes and looked at Qimu Xi. “Don’t cut… Brother Lun Tai and the others… will be killed.”
“If I don’t cut the connection, you’ll die!” Qimu Xi shook her head. Crouching in front of Xia Xiaolei, she raised the sword.
By swinging the sword, Xia Xiaolei would be separated from the alien species’ neural network.
“Die… so be it! Did you forget… we still have another life?” Xia Xiaolei said hoarsely. “Using the metal spheres, we can be revived…”
“I did not forget. But what if it fails?” Qimu Xi gripped the sword tightly. She too, was hesitating.
“I… likely cannot win.” Xia Xiaolei was sweating profusely, his eyes having lost their focus. Even so, he stretched his hand out to squeeze Qimu Xi’s hand. “That guy’s mental power is too strong… I’ve entered the alien species’ genetic neural network. So, I know very well… just what kind of monster he has become. But I have to at least hold him down first. Otherwise… Brother Lun Tai and the rest will all die… all die…”
Qimu Xi took a deep breath. Slowly nodding, she put the sword back into its sheath. “I’ll… tell Brother Lun Tai.”
“Don’t.” A few gurgling sounds came from Xia Xiaolei’s throat. “If you tell… they’ll become distracted. But once I die, you must immediately tell him. Because when that happens, it means he has regained control…”
“Fine.” Qimu Xi turned her head away, gently wiping away the tears with her fingertips.
Xia Xiaolei fell silent again. However, his body continued to shake violently.
Finally, the rate at which his body trembled became increasingly low. Then, Xia Xiaolei exhaled his last breath and his body fell still.
Although she did not know what was happening over there, this meant that Lun Tai’s group had failed to kill Aderick in the end.
Gripping Xia Xiaolei’s hand tightly, Qimu Xi turned on the guild channel, doing her best to speak calmly, with a tone devoid of any emotional fluctuations. “Brother Lun Tai. Xiaolei… has lost.”
“I… know.”
Lun Tai did not further probe Xia Xiaolei’s situation.
For Aderick to be able to move again, this meant that… Xia Xiaolei had exhausted the final bit of his life force.
In the end, they had to face this terrifying opponent after all.
Aderick slowly walked out of the charred area, but he did not immediately attack.
A big flower swiftly grew from the spot beside his feet. The petals of the flower then opened up, looking like a massive mouth.
Aderick placed Theodore into the flower and the petals immediately closed up, transforming back into a flower bud before retracting back into the ground.
No one there chose to recklessly attack. Instead, they simply adjusted their positions to surround Aderick.
“Why aren’t you attacking?”
It wasn’t until the flower bud that enveloped Theodore had completely retracted underground did Aderick raise his head again. His pair of deep and dark eyes looked around, his voice as cold as ice. “Weren’t you guys fighting energetically just now? You even nearly killed my most loyal subordinate and friend…”
Two beams of light suddenly descended from the sky, interrupting Aderick.
“Then let’s continue fighting!” Roddy shouted.
Mega Particle Cannon!
The Gundam had a limited use time. Roddy had no time to listen to his long speech.
Aderick, however, merely stretched his hand out to face the incoming particle cannon attack.
The hand transformed quickly, moving like melted plasticine. The area from the elbow down to the tip of his hand transformed into a big eyeball.
A beam of light shot out from within the eyeball to collide with the particle cannon attack in mid-air.
After the resulting waves of violent energy dissipated away, Aderick could be seen standing at the same spot, seemingly unscathed.
“A decent mech. I have never seen it before in the Exchange System’s list of items. You must have obtained it from some instance dungeon, right? However… it is only decent.” Aderick calmly looked at Roddy, who was up in the sky. “Don’t be impatient, you are not the first.”
He turned his gaze towards Nicole.
“Just now, that final slash that cut open Theodore’s body. It was you, wasn’t it?”
“It’s me.” Nicole flicked her right hand lightly and the Ion Pulse Sword lit up once more.
“Then, you’ll be the first.”
After saying that, Aderick’s figure disappeared from the spot.
Immediately, Nicole sensed a hint of a dangerous atmosphere.
A highly dangerous atmosphere.
Her thrusters burst into action in an instant to propel her backwards at full speed.
However, it was still a moment too late.
With a flash, Aderick appeared in front of Nicole. He was so fast that no one had been able to respond. Rather, even their eyes had failed to grasp his movements.
The black sword appeared out of nowhere to slash towards Nicole.
Activating the thrusters in advance had saved Nicole’s life. The Soul Eater Sword swung, leaving a trail right in front of her towering chest. The blade of the sword left only a fine cut on the Floating mech armour. It did not even damage her flesh.
And yet, Nicole, who had just dashed backwards, suddenly felt intense pain.
A wave of… intense pain that came from the depths of her soul.
Instantly, she lost her ability to control the Floater and she tumbled before falling to the ground.
Accompanying the feeling of intense pain were grief, sadness, despair, rage, distress, misery…
Countless negative emotions filled Nicole’s heart.
The rumours were true. Aderick… could directly attack this opponent’s soul.
Ding!
Aderick’s next sword attack went after Nicole like an unshakeable disease, but it instead struck a tough shield, eliciting a soft ringing sound.
The tip of the sword failed to pierce the shield. Even so, Lun Tai let out a pained roar.
Aderick’s soul attack could seemingly ignore the existence of defensive items.
“Guardian Shield? A decent defensive prop as well. However, it is also only decent.”
Aderick smiled faintly. “A mere Realm of Immunity cannot completely stop my attack. Though…”
His Soul Eater Sword swung down once more, striking Lun Tai’s shield. “It can reduce it somewhat.”
Although he had once again blocked Aderick’s Soul Eater Sword, Lun Tai felt as though his soul had fallen into Hell, where it was burned by karmic fire.
This fellow… so terrifying!
Not only was he even faster than Theodore, his attacks were also so strange. Even the Realm of Immunity, known as the absolute defence, was incapable of completely blocking them.
“Aderick-”
Both of Tian Lie’s hands transformed out a pitch-black sword each and they slashed towards Aderick with a roar.
“Angel Killer? You are still alive?”
Aderick harrumphed coldly.
He had never faced Tian Lie in other instance dungeons before. However, as the Guild Leader of the Knights of Darkness, how could he not know Tian Lie’s abilities and appearance?
The Soul Eater Sword stabbed forward once more, but it struck the air.
Before the tip of the sword could reach his body, Tian Lie abruptly twisted his body slightly and the sword missed him by a hair’s breadth.
The black swords in his hands also twisted to a strange angle, stabbing towards Aderick’s breastplate.
Sword energy burst outwards and Aderick grunted as his figure was thrown backwards.
A near-imperceptible crack appeared on his breastplate.
“Tsk, your swordsmanship is still not strong enough.”
Tian Lie laughed wildly and the black swords in his hands moved yet again.
The others also began besieging Aderick.
Due to the attack just now, Nicole was still partially kneeling on the ground, trembling. Lun Tai, on the other hand, was in a slightly better state. He had already charged forward, shield in hand.
Soo Soo’s blazing phoenix flew forth, its wings flapping as it did. Bei Tai’s left arm had transformed into a sniper rifle and he opened fire.
Roddy, who was piloting the Gundam, had rushed down once more.
He was the only one who could serve as the main force for this battle.
Roddy, whose entire body was encased within the Gundam’s cockpit, was the only one immune to Aderick’s soul attacks.
At such close quarters, he could no longer utilize the Mega Particle Cannons. However, he was just as confident in his melee combat ability.
The Gundam swooped down at a speed that far exceeded what the Sentinel mech could achieve, its beam lance leaving a trail of light in the sky as it stabbed directly at Aderick.
“You fellows… still do not understand the difference in power between us.”
Despite coming under siege, Aderick did not appear flustered at all.
His figure dashed forward, evading Tian Lie’s sword attack while his Soul Eater Sword lightly jabbed Lun Tai’s shield.
This was Lun Tai’s third time taking a soul attack. Once again, he uttered out a pained cry, but he forced himself to keep moving.
However, Soo Soo’s blazing phoenix also struck Aderick’s back.
His black suit of armour could not completely stop the might of the blazing phoenix. Moving through the countless little gaps on his suit of armour, minute-sized flames burned Aderick’s body until a pungent, scorched smell wafted out.
At the same time, the Gundam’s beam lance descended from high above.
Aderick, however, seemingly felt no pain at all. He aimed the big eyeball on his left hand at the Gundam and fired out a beam of light with it.
The beam of light struck the Gundam’s left leg and Roddy’s whole body jolted despite still being in the cockpit. Next, he heard the electronic voice of the operating system coming from his ear.
“Warning, left leg damaged by 23%. Maximum power output reduced by 31%.”
“What the hell!”
Roddy roared.
The Gundam had far stronger abilities compared to the Sentinel mech. It was installed with an Electromagnetic Deflector Shield that had a higher output than the one installed on a Thunderstorm Tank. Additionally, it was also enhanced with Star Sand. Ordinary attacks would only amount to an itch for it.
At present, however, just a single beam of light had actually left a serious wound on its left leg.
This fellow… was stronger than they expected.
The beam lance hacked down furiously, striking Aderick at the same time.
Finally, this attack managed to leave a large hole on Aderick’s suit of armour and his whole body was blasted away.
But when Aderick stood up once more, wriggling flesh could be seen through the exposed part of the armour.
The wound inflicted by the beam lance was swiftly healing up.
Everyone from Meteor Rock Guild was very familiar with what they were presently witnessing.
That was the recovery method of Xia Xiaolei’s Bug Armour.
“It’s true. You fellows are very smart, and very lucky. You have someone equipped with the Bug Armour in your team. A little bit more and I would have died. However… you fellows forgot. The connection was a two-way street. When he stole the alien genes under my control and accessed the neural network, I also stole the genes he possessed!”
Aderick spread open his hands and walked forward, one step at a time. There was a calm smile on his face.
“Although the alien genes in this instance dungeon are very powerful, it did not possess the self-healing ability. I thank you, for letting me obtain the genes of the Bug Armour. And now… I have truly obtained an unkillable body!”
