Chapter 17: Pure-mana spells!

Chapter 17: Pure-mana spells!

Whittaker didn't know what difficulties Yato has faced to look so beaten up. He cared as he was his classmate and they are gonna be together for a year. But right now, he couldn't invest himself in helping others, first, he must find a solution to the financial troubles that will begin after three years.

He understood very well that he must start earning money as soon as he can because he can only study for free in the Academy for only three years.

The class continued after Yato sat down.

Teacher Ruka explained the next topic.

"Pure-mana spell is defined as a spell that lacks an elemental attribute. The preliminary requirement for their release is mana control. A mage, even an F-ranked, only needs to know how to control Mana and then he will be able to utilize Pure-mana spells. Pure-mana spells are plenty and also very strong. Especially, the world-wide popular spells called telekinesis and Mana shield."

Saying that she wrote their definition on the blackboard.

[Telekinesis: It is the power to manipulate matter using magic]

[Mana Shield: A mage creates a coating of mana that protects them from harm]

Then Teacher Ruka said:

"Through telekinesis, an F-ranked mage can use magic or magical energy to telekinetically push, move, lift, or otherwise manipulate matter in general. While Mana shield of an F-ranked mage is strong enough to block two to ten sword slashes.

I advise you all to learn "Telekinesis" and "Mana shield". Telekinesis is the essential spell that one must learn to learn the Pure-mana spell "Flight". The Flight spell will let a mage be as free as a bird. A mage can dash through the skies as they will. And, "Mana shield" will save your life's in many life and death moments."

Whittaker felt hyped up as he listened to the lecture, his experience was further enhanced by the pleasant voice of Teacher Ruka that was too clear to the ears. He would love to be as free as a bird and fly in the sky and through the clouds.

He wasn't the only one that was hyped. The entire class was, including the students that have taken such lessons before and the repeaters. But the disappointed look in the depth of their eyes betrayed their expression. They knew that it wasn't easy to learn such a spell!

"Teacher, how do we control mana to utilize pure-mana spells?" Yato, the purple-haired boy, inquired. This was something that even Whittaker didn't know.

Teacher Ruka sweetly smiled at him and said, "Ah, I was just about to tell you all about it. The most popular way to control mana is called Somatic movement. Every mage in all the six kingdoms learns this way to manipulate mana and cast Pure-mana spell. Remember, this is the essential way to cast Pure-Mana spells. It's hard to learn but mastering it would be worth the hard work you put in, I promise."

"Somatic movement is a measured and precise movement of the hand. Through hand signs, the mana in your body will move to generate a spell. Somatic movements are performed by two hands but some rare geniuses only need one hand free to perform the somatic movement. This year, every student must master the 32 basic hand signs to pass one of the most important First-year graduation exams."

Teacher Ruka continued with this topic by drawing multiple hand signs on the blackboard.

Whittaker was intently looking at what she was drawing. Her drawing wasn't bad and it could be compared to a professional artist.

Every time she finished with fleshing out a hand sign on the blackboard, he would memorize it just by intently glancing at one time. He had Photographic memory and its uses were apparent. Unlike other students, who have to use their brainpower to memorize each hand sign, he just had to glance only one time.

With his innate ability, he just needs to recall the images and he will see all the hand signs with high precision for a brief period.

After drawing thirty-two hand signs on the blackboard below teacher Ruka turned towards the students and said in a serious tone,

"I will perform the 32 hand signs. Look carefully at my hands."

Every student gaze focus focused on her hand as real-life experiences are better than drawings. Whittaker gaze also moved at her hands, and his face blushed as his gaze got attracted to her massive Jugs. A boy undergoing puberty he was, nothing wrong with a casual blunder. Coughing silently, he truly focused his attention on her hands.

After Teacher Ruka noticed that everyone was looking at her hands, she started performing the thirty-two hand signs in succession while stating their names.

"Earth, fox, hare, Snake, Bear, Kangaroo, Wolve...."

After performing the hand signs, she said to the attentive students, "Students, this is how the basic thirty-two hand signs are performed. Next, I will show you the hand signs necessary to perform the pure-mana spells 'Telekinesis' and 'Magic Shield'. Be attentive and if you want then note down the hand signs for 'Telekinesis' and 'Magic Shield' and the order in which they must be performed."

Naturally, the snowy-haired boy didn't feel any need to write down the hand signs or the order in which they must be performed. His photographic memory has helped him memorize all of it, furthermore, he didn't have a notebook on which he could write it down. The rest of the students, however, really wrote down the hand signs of the two Pure-mana spells and the order in which they must be performed as they saw teacher Ruka performing the hand signs with utmost precision.

"Oh, Wow!!!!!"

"So this is Telekinesis!"

"Holy fuck, the tables are flying!!!!!!"

"I want to learn it too and one day I will be able to fly." Among the excited exclamations, Whittaker also shouted.

Every student lost their minds as their eyes followed the flying tables roaming above their heads and around the classroom.

Teacher Ruka smiled as if she had expected such reactions from them.

"Okay, quiet down." The teacher placed the tables back in their places and the students chill out. "I will perform the hand signs for Magic-shield."

She started performing the hand signs and Whittaker active mind started to memorize them.

By the time she stopped, a chirping sound was heard but nothing else happened.

Whittaker stood up and attracted the love-filled eyes of the female students and the envy-filled eyes of the male students. One even thought, 'What did he eat to look so handsome???'

"Teacher Ruka, where is the mana shield?" he asked to clear his confusion. He only heard a noise but didn't notice anything else happening. That's why he was confused.

She smiled at the cute boy whose cheeks asked to be pinched, "Mana shield are invisible in nature. They cannot be seen by naked eyes and can only felt through physical touch."

"Oh!" Understanding the properties of Mana-Shield, he sat down.
