Chapter 237: Tokyo Game Show
Chapter 237: Tokyo Game Show
So, today is the release day for the second episode of Dragon Emblem, Gunpei explained.
"Wait, today!?"
"Today!?"
Gamers, anticipating the release date, were taken aback to learn that Dragon Emblem had already been released.
The venue for the current expo was at the Big Sight, located on the outskirts of Tokyo, not too far from Akihabara where Pentagon Shop was situated, just about an hour away by train.
The gamers gathered around the booth, their anxious expressions unsure of what to do. Should they dash to Akihabara this instant to get their hands on Dragon Emblem?
"But can we just leave this presentation we just started?" one wondered aloud, torn between the desire to leave and the obligation not to miss the game show.
It was clear that a myriad of thoughts was racing through their minds.
"Doesn't it feel awkward just standing here?"
"I feel like I'm going crazy..."
They were itching to leave at that moment, but the dilemma of missing the game show was palpable in their hesitating expressions.
In an attempt to reassure them, I spoke calmly, trying to put their minds at ease.
"We've prepared plenty of stock for Dragon Emblem. Additionally, we'll restock at 7 PM, so even if you stay for all the Tokyo Game Show events, you won't miss out on purchasing Dragon Emblem."
"Oh... that's a relief."
"Yeah, I was planning to rush to Akihabara after just seeing the Pentagon presentation."
Clearing my throat to gather their attention, I continued, "Let's proceed with our presentation. First, let's talk about the world of this new Dragon Emblem..."
As I spoke, a huge map appeared on the screen.
"The second episode of Dragon Emblem, titled 'Era of Conflict,' reflects the ongoing confrontation between two forces: humans and demons. The blue areas represent human strongholds, while the red ones are demon territories."
"Oh... it's like a giant game of territorial control," one user aptly remarked, earning nods of agreement from the crowd.
"That's right. In the first episode, players who cleared the hardcore mode could choose one of these factions. If you have data from the previous game, you can start the second episode and create a character with a slightly special role: the Commander."
"Huh? What's a Commander?"
As if in response to the question, a 2.5D representation of the Commander appeared on the screen.
Clad in gleaming armor with a fluttering cape, one figure resembled a human Commander, while another, with outspread wings and folded arms, represented the demon Commander.
"The Commanders are literally the leaders of each faction. They can command up to five subordinates depending on their command level. They can also depart for enemy territories uniquely. There, you can obtain various rare items, including weapons. Let me give you a hint: in the second episode of Dragon Emblem, even for the same weapon, the assigned attributes can be completely different. Some items might increase critical hit rate by 3%, while others from the same weapon type could boost it up to 8%."
At that moment, the screen displayed the Commander's inventory, showcasing helmets, armor, shoulder guards, bracelets, pants, boots, and an array of incredible accessories. But what astonished the crowd even more was...
"Whoa!! The armor changes the graphics!"
"Wow!! This is amazing!"
While it was natural to think that equipment would affect a character's appearance, back in the mid-90s, games where gear changed character graphics were rare.
Though some games had models that merely changed colors with different gear, even this level of detail would have gamers eagerly seeking new armor and weapons.
Watching the character swiftly change equipment on screen, I spoke with a smile, "Within here, there are legendary items that only 1% of Dragon Emblem's players can possess. Let me unveil one rare-grade set for those curious."
Bam!
As all the gear slots randomly spun, they finally aligned to reveal the legendary set.
"Sniper's Seris!?"
The figure, resembling a ranger clad in sleek leather armor, wielding a massive bow, was none other than Seris, one of the heroes of Dragon Emblem.
"Can we obtain equipment from the old heroes?"
"Well, it looks cool, but at the same time, it's mind-boggling. What kind of effort do we need to put in to get that?"
"Look at the stats next to it... I don't know what level it is, but each piece boosts stats by 40."
"Truly a legendary item..."
"Still want it. If Seris is there, there might be Croel or other hero sets. Like the scorching mage, Mirea..."
"M... Mirea!!"
"Oh, that's awesome!"
Gamers started mentioning their favorite heroes one by one, their excitement rising.
"All the equipment for the heroes you're talking about is ready. And there are plans for future updates too. Let's set aside the character introductions for now and move on to explaining the actual gameplay."
As I spoke, on both sides of the stage, Uchimura and Hayashi took their seats at the Complete Raon.
They showcased the Dragon Emblem CD cases to the audience and then inserted them into the Complete Raon.
"Wow!! Darn it!! Just looking at the gameplay CD makes me want to buy it again..."
"I can't resist. Once this game show is over, I'm heading straight to Akihabara."
Uchimura and Hayashi, seeming to enjoy the reactions of the ecstatic fans, slightly smiled as they gripped their gamepads.
Moments later, different profile screens appeared on both sides, prompting people to compare Uchimura and Hayashi's characters.
Uchimura's character, labeled as 'Unknown Mercenary,' had nothing equipped, while Hayashi's, wearing pristine armor from head to toe, was a 'Grade 1 Commander.'
"Let's start the game right away."
