Chapter 40 [Bonus ] 40 - Group
In order not to directly affect the mission, both Steele and Donovan would stay hidden following Gabe's group from a distance, since if they appeared all the time the group would probably be less attentive and more relaxed, which would definitely affect the outcome of the mission.
Arriving at the room where the group that would go on the mission was, Gabe opened a friendly smile as he greeted the Players.
"Hello everyone, today I will join you on the mission." Gabe waved his hand as he looked at everyone in the group.
There were 6 people in the room, among these people there was a large muscular man with a thick mustache on his face and a giant shield resting on his back, a young blond boy in metal armor with a sword at his waist, a woman with black hair in green leather armor with a bow on his back, a man in military clothing with a machine gun on his back, a man with short brown hair in metal armor with a long spear and a red-haired girl in black military equipment with some weapons in the back.
A detail that caught Gabe's attention was that the man and the young woman who used firearms were using upgrade versions of these weapons, that is, they were common weapons that went through the improvement process learned by Duke in Residual Devil.
Looking at the young boy who walked in, wearing leather combat gear similar to that used by the military, with just a pistol on his waist and several knives hanging from a belt, the first thing they thought was that he was a Player like a Rogue .
"Hello kid, I'm the captain of this team, Draum!" The big man with the mustache said with a smile. "Welcome to the group, are you a Developer?"
Since this man was the captain of the team, he had insider information. Mainly knowing that their mission today was to accompany a Developer who was going to participate in his first mission. He had already told the group that their main mission was to protect Developer, and their secondary mission was to complete the mission that Developer selected, so everyone was already aware of that.
But knowing that they were going to do a mission with a Developer was something that got everyone excited, as it was their first time not only doing a mission with a Developer, but also meeting a Developer in person.
Gabe smiled and didn't deny it. "Yes, this is my first mission since I became a Developer, so I count on everyone's patience and care."
Among the faces of these people, Gabe didn't know anyone, only the young woman with the black mask on her face carrying some weapons was slightly familiar to Gabe, but he didn't recognize her right away.
"That's cool, I've never done a quest with a Developer!" The blond youth with the sword at his waist said with a smile as he extended his hand towards Gabe. "It's a pleasure to meet you, my name is Max!"
"Nice to meet you Max, I'm Gabe." Gabe grabbed Max's hand and said his name with a smile.
Initially he was in doubt whether it would be better for him to say his name as Gabe or as EA, but because he didn't bring a mask he thought it was better to introduce himself as Gabe and leave EA's alter-ego only for when he had a mask to hide his identity.
"Hey, what game did you play? Did I play your game yet?" The young woman with a bow on her back also greeted Gabe.
Gabe pretended to think for a while as he looked at her bow and replied. "I believe that by using a bow it is likely that you have already played my game."
Hearing this, this Player's interest was even greater, but seeing that Gabe avoided saying the name of his game, she soon imagined the reason and stopped asking, as this could be impolite.
Although Gabe didn't remember Caitlyn when he looked at her, because she looked very different from when he had seen her in person or how she looked on the livestreams, that didn't stop her from remembering him.
His handsome appearance made him easier to remember, and noticing how much more muscular he had become in such a short time, she also deduced that it was because he was a Developer.
She knew that Mana could nourish the muscles, since her Mana also nourished that, but the difference between her Mana amount and his Mana amount was so great that she sighed in realizing how easily Developers had to develop.
"What's your specialization, Gabe?" Draum, the team captain asked curiously as he looked at the knives at Gabe's waist. If he really was a rogue it would be quite problematic to protect him, as Rogues usually put themselves in much more danger than normal classes.
Game waved his hand and one of the knives at his waist began to levitate. "I believe it's more effective in ranged attacks due to my telekinesis."
Looking at the knife floating in front of Gabe, the Players' eyes began to light up, especially Max who was an avid Residual Devil fan.
"Woah, your telekinesis looks a lot like Heisenberg's powers!" Max said emotionally, which made Draum frown.
"Max…" He mumbled as he shook his head at the boy.
Max soon understood the gaffe he committed, since he was practically comparing Gabe's power with the power made by another Developer, which was very impolite.
"I'm sorry Gabe, I didn't mean that, I just got a little excited." Max sincerely apologized.
Gabe just smiled and shook his head. "Don't worry, I already imagined that something like this could happen, I also have to admit, this is very similar to the power of that Residual Devil boss."
Seeing that Gabe didn't take it seriously and wasn't offended, not only was Max more relaxed, the other Players were also pleasantly surprised by Gabe's reaction, as they had heard a lot that Developers were normally very arrogant, but they didn't feel it. none of that arrogance from Gabe.
What they didn't know is that Gabe was actually a little happy about this comment about Residual Devil, as it was the game he developed himself. But he was also even happier to realize that no one there doubted that his power was telekinesis, which saved him from some problems that could arise.
After a few minutes of conversation with the group, mainly the Players asking questions they had about game development, and Gabe asking about missions and how they worked, Draum finally brought the group's attention to the main objective.
"Gabe, what mission have you selected for us?" Draum asked in a serious voice, causing the group to calm down and pay attention.
Gabe, who came with the tablet that Captain Sullivan provided, selected the Special mission he had chosen and showed it to the group.
When they saw what the mission was they were surprised, even more so when they saw that the title of the mission was "Special Mission".
Although they had never completed a special mission, they had heard about this type of mission before, which was definitely something they didn't think they would face having to worry about protecting a Developer.
And seeing how Gabe already had Supernatural powers, Draum also already figured that Gabe was probably a Developer Rank E, which on the one hand was great news, as Gabe would probably be very useful in battle, but it was also something to worry about, since their responsibility to care for Gabe was much greater than they initially realized.
"Okay, despite being a difficult mission, I believe our group will manage to do it." Despite being concerned, Draum did not let it show to the group and acted as if this mission was an easy one.
The man with the military equipment and the young man with the big spear on his back were a little worried about the mission, while Max was excited to finally be able to fight against more powerful monsters, since not only did battles like this awaken even more the potential of a Player, as more powerful monsters also had a higher chance of having Mana Stones on their heads, which would probably yield a small fortune for each of the group.
"Come on, of course we'll make it, we've never failed a mission since this group got together." Max said excitedly as he looked at everyone with a smile, and especially at Gabe, figuring that kind of comment would probably boost Gabe's confidence.
On the one hand Gabe was actually slightly surprised by the success rate of this group which, according to Max, was 100%, but on the other he sighed inwardly.
'Don't raise flags, that's bad luck…' But he just thought that, without saying it out loud.
Seeing how relaxed Gabe was, an idea crossed Draum's mind, but he quickly shook his head and focused on studying the details of the mission with the rest of the group.
As the group discussed the best ways to deal with the Gnolls, Caitlyn occasionally glanced at Gabe to see his reaction.
Gabe just stood by the group as he listened to them brainstorm on how they intended to handle the mission, and every now and then adding a few ideas of things that could help the group.
"Very well, with this plan and our strength nothing can go wrong!" Max said excitedly as he got up ready for them to leave.
But when Gabe heard what Max said, his heart froze.
'Shit…'
