“Junior Martial Sister Lu, what are you thinking about?” Li Dan asked as he walked over to the white-clothed girl’s side, taking a seat and smoothing out the creases in his Daoist robe.
The white-clothed girl’s name was Lu Siwan. She had been sitting on the edge of the massive purple Spirit Cloud by herself, staring off into the distant night sky.
The sound of the wind howling past was dampened greatly by the light barrier. Only a bit of wind could be felt inside, gently blowing past Lu Siwan’s long hair.
However, the girl’s eyes were downcast, as if she had a lot on her mind.
Lu Siwan turned her head, seeing the concerned look on her Senior Martial Brother’s face. She smiled lightly and said, “Senior Martial Brother Li, I was just thinking about whether or not entering the sect and becoming a profound cultivator was the wrong choice for me.” She reached her slim finger and tucked the windswept hair behind her ear, revealing her luscious red lips. Without waiting for Li Dan’s reply, she continued, “I was born into a rich family in the Ning’an Province. After that, my father allowed me to measure my Profound Meridians to see if I would qualify for the disciple recruitment held in each Province under the Sacred Sect’s jurisdiction.”
“After I was measured to have Grade 1 Profound Meridians, the Affairs Hall disciple bestowed my parents with riches, and I was assigned to the Outer Region of Mingxin Mountain. It was only after I came here that I became aware of how cruel the path of profound cultivation was. Not to mention the lack of spirit stones, I almost died last year when I went on my first sect mission,” she explained.
“In the two years since I joined Morning Dew Peak, I lived each day in fear. I never dared to go and accept missions of my own accord. I was always scared of the next time the key jade slip would send another notice forcing me to go on another sect mission. Every time I went on a mission, I always found myself wondering if I would really die this time around,” she said, tying up the long hair on her head. Her delicate fingers weaved and danced, and in a short moment, her hair was bundled into an attractive bun.
She grinned, turning to look at Li Dan. “Am I beautiful?” she asked.
Li Dan found himself somewhat unable to tear his eyes away from Lu Siwan’s gaze. He murmured, “You’re beautiful. Very beautiful. Junior Martial Sister Lu, how about I give you another 10 spirit stones? I’ll still have 20 spirit stones left. That’ll be enough for me.”
Yuan Qi was seated on the purple Spirit Cloud, next to Xu Disheng. He was sitting slightly closer to the two of them so he managed to overhear their conversation, causing the corner of his lips to curl into a disdainful smile.
He looked over at the youth in a black and gold Daoist robe, seated in the center of the purple Spirit Cloud with his eyes closed in meditation. Yuan Qi was just an ordinary disciple, but he was slightly more clever than most people. Finding someone who he could attach himself to in order to reach success, he was secretly delighted.
As for the white-clothed girl, Lu Siwan, Yuan Qi didn’t really like her. Even though her melons were plump and perky, who knew how many times people had played around with them?
Once he became strong enough, what girl couldn’t be his? Riding the coattails of this person in front of him, now that was important.
Looking at it like this, Yuan Qi was more strong-minded and eager to excel in life than Li Dan.
Xu Disheng’s eyelashes trembled slightly as he opened his eyes and saw the multi-colored beams of light flashing by becoming more frequent. After several days of traveling, the purple Spirit Cloud had already entered the Mingxin Mountain Range.
The serpent monster’s massive body was coiled up, placed quietly on the other side of the Spirit Cloud. It was rather eye-catching, and drew a lot of stares throughout their journey.
But there was nothing that could be done about this, since he didn’t have an expensive storage ring. He had quite a few storage pouches by this point, but none of them had enough space to contain a serpent monster, so for now he could only place it on the Spirit Cloud.
The Mountain Affairs Peak of the Mingxin Mountain was the Peak where the branch of the Affairs Hall was located in the Mingxin Mountain Range.
In front of Spirit Origin Hall, a massive purple Spirit Cloud with a serpent monster corpse on it slowly landed. Even though it was coiled up, it was still around 20 meters tall, drawing a huge amount of attention.
Li Dan and Lu Siwan had never received the stares of so many Sea of Qi stage disciples before. There were even a lot of peak Sea of Qi stage elite disciples among them, causing them to feel embarrassed and at a loss.
On the other hand, Yuan Qi was rather brazen and thick-skinned. Seeing Xu Disheng’s undisturbed, indifferent expression, he also put on a cool front. He helped Xu Disheng, casting a spell with him to lift the corpse of the serpent monster. Together, they all entered the Spirit Armament Pavilion in Spirit Origin Hall.
There were a lot of disciples coming and going through Spirit Origin Hall. All of them had strange expressions as they stared at them, but none of them came forward.
After all, every one of them had their own things to be doing, so they wouldn’t pay that much attention to other people. In the eyes of the other disciples, these people probably couldn’t afford a storage ring, which wasn’t all that rare. At most, they would comment and laugh about it.
What was a bit more surprising to them was that these people were all at the early Sea of Qi stage, and they could actually slaughter a monster that was a bit away from being half-transformed. This level of strength was pretty much on par with a large portion of elite disciples.
Deacon Ge Ming, a Dao Foundation stage disciple in charge of protecting the Spirit Armament Pavilion, held a great deal of authority. Seeing the corpse of the serpent monster in the hall, he narrowed his eyes and said, “Did you all kill this monster while on a sect mission? Or are you turning it in on behalf of someone else?”
Xu Disheng came forward, handing the mission jade slip to the disciple standing by, who handed it over to Ge Ming.
“Hmm? A small-scale mission, accepted by elite disciple Chen Xingzhou. A total of fourteen people went, and only you four returned?” Ge Ming asked, briefly sweeping a glance over the mission jade slip. He shook his head and said, “But that’s a matter for Sect Affairs Hall. Our Spirit Armament Pavilion collects monster corpses on behalf of Refining Hall, but we must take a commission fee. We will offer you 240 spirit stones for this monster.”
After a while, a disciple finished making inventory of the spirit stones, putting them into a storage pouch and handing it to Xu Disheng.
Xu Disheng received the storage pouch and roughly checked over it, finding exactly 240 spirit stones within. He nodded in gratitude, then brought Li Dan and the others with him to leave Spirit Armament Pavilion.
Ge Ming watched the retreating figures of Xu Disheng and the others and muttered to himself, “I think I have a bit of an impression of this person. Last time he came, he turned in a completely intact corpse of a half-transformed wolf monster. It hasn’t even been long since then, and now he came again with the corpse of a serpent monster on the brink of the half-transformed stage.”
The several Spirit Armament Pavilion disciples stood respectfully at attention without replying.
From day to day, Ge Ming was normally stationed at the Spirit Armament Pavilion. He never personally attended to any of the ordinary transactions of Spirit Tools. He would always leave those matters to the disciples of Spirit Armament Hall.
The matters that passed through his hands had to do with the transactions regarding monster corpses that had a fairly high value, or regarding the reclamation of precious Spirit Tools.
The ones that normally came to Spirit Armament Pavilion to turn in monster corpses were all Dao Foundation disciples, who he pretty much all knew by name. Occasionally, there were a few who hadn’t reached the Dao Foundation stage, but they were all geniuses at the peak of the Sea of Qi stage.
Therefore, Ge Ming had some lingering recollection of this early Sea of Qi stage disciple.
Every disciple had their own secrets and destiny. In the Sacred Sect, the rules were also extremely strict, so Ge Ming didn’t think too much about it; he was only somewhat curious.
Small-scale missions were different from ordinary sect missions.
Upon returning to Sect Affairs Hall, ordinary sect missions could be directly turned in to the Affairs Hall disciples. But small-scale missions and the mid-scale missions that were at a level above them, had to be personally audited by the Dao Foundation stage Deacon upon completion. When turning in the mission, the mission jade slip, the record jade slip, and the required materials for completion all had to be present without exception.
For example, this time, the most important thing to turn in was the 1-meter long spirit vein essence, which was also the objective for this small-scale mission. Aside from that, things like the mission jade slip, the record jade slip, and the Parting Water Pearl had to be turned in.
Xu Disheng and the others stood in a side hall. There was an elder seated above them, giving off a Dao Foundation stage aura as he combed through the record jade slip.
This was just a formality in the end, since the record jade slip could be turned on and off at the disciples’ discretion. The only record in there was the part where Xu Disheng was putting away the spirit vein essence.
What was surprising to the old man was that the person who accepted the mission had already died, and it was these early Sea of Qi stage brats coming to turn in the mission.
The old man put down the jade slip and picked up the 1-meter long spirit vein essence. At least 70-80 spirit stones could still be extracted from this spirit vein essence. With this, the mission was naturally considered complete.
After a moment of contemplation, the elder said, “You pass the investigation. The reward for this small-scale mission of 210 spirit stones will be given to you, which you can distribute among yourselves accordingly. Liu Zhou, bring the spirit stones and give them their reward.” After that, he pointed at the jade slips and other things on the table and turned to say, “Shi Ji, take the spirit vein essence and the other things and register them into the storehouse. Then, send a notice jade slip to Morning Dew Peak and Wenyuan Mountain’s Directory Hall and have them mark the records of the dead disciples.”
From the disciples at his side, two disciples stepped out and respectfully complied.
