Chapter 37: Shye Crowley vs Siegfried Lionheart
Chapter 37: Shye Crowley vs Siegfried Lionheart
The grand finals matches were a bit different compared to the bracket stage.
Although the format is the same, there were now two commentators behind a long desk to boost the popularity and spice up the matches. In addition to this, outsiders can now simply pay for tickets to watch the grand finals matches.
The tickets weren't cheap but they weren't that expensive either so the locals of Colzen City watched the grand finals with their families and friends as they treated this as a once-in-a-year event.
More seats were provided for the outsiders and the location of the food stalls was adjusted so that the crowd could buy food and drinks anytime they wanted without missing a single bit of the action from the stage.
At least seven to eight thousand citizens from Colzen City bought tickets to watch the grand finals of the four different courses.
As Shye's class slowly walked up the stage, the commentator masterfully told the story of how the class of a 16th-ranked underdog clawed their way to the top as their captain, Shye Crowley, led the class to the grand finals of the tournament by bringing miraculous victories one after another.
[Congratulations! You've earned 120 points!]
[Congratulations! You've earned 150 points!]
[Congratulations! You've earned 210 points!]
[Congratulations...
...
..
Shye looked at the commentator in awe and gratitude.
The guy was so masterful with his work that he managed to earn a lot of points for Shye when all he did was walk up the stage together with his class.
Of course, the commentator also mentioned how Siegfried honorably gave Shye a grand finals spot while fighting for his own.
The crowd waited for the match to start in anticipation after hearing the achievements of both classes.
Truly a well-deserved grand finals match!
On the other hand, there were some people who felt hatred and bitterness as they watched the grand finals on the sidelines.
Naturally, these people were Leonardo, Theoden, and Eusford. They gnashed their teeth and clenched their fists in hatred as they watched Shye and Siegfried get all the glory.
Unfortunately for them, they cannot do anything but watch since their classes were already eliminated.
Finally, after a few minutes of preparation, both classes were ready to fight.
Shye and Siegfried stood in front of their classes as they held their weapons tightly while staring at each other fiercely.
"Ohoh look at that! Your new member is raring to go!"
Ren Beckmann smiled after hearing the words of his best friend from another adventurer society.
"Isn't he quite the catch? I told you that I'm the best when it comes to eyeing people's talents!"
"Hmmph! Despicable! You're still so proud even though you just snatched him a bit earlier than the rest of us!"
"Ha! Didn't that brilliant move of mine give us the advantage in the end? Next time, you better act quick like me!"
Ren and his best friend bantered jokingly while waiting for the match to start.
"Begin!"
The referee didn't let them wait any longer as he immediately announced the start of the match after seeing that both sides were ready.
Shye and Siegfried immediately charged at each other and this time, it was Shye who attacked first. He swung his greatsword down vertically to challenge Siegfried in a head-on match.
Contrary to his battle-maniac personality, Siegfried chose to dodge by sidestepping Shye's attack and then countering him with a horizontal slash to his rib area.
*PAH*
Siegfried's wooden longsword struck Shye cleanly on the rib area. He was caught off guard because he thought that the battle-hungry Siegfried would choose to fight him in a head-on match.
Unfortunately for him, Siegfried was the type of guy who enjoyed using different kinds of combat techniques along with his raw strength and that's why he was so hard to defeat.
He had both the brains and the brawn.
"Aghk..."
Shye couldn't help but groan in pain after being struck cleanly by Siegfried's wooden longsword.
He then chose to step back to reassess his battle plan since Siegfried's fighting style wasn't what he expected it to be.
"Tch! He got me...I didn't expect him to fight smart..."
Shye rubbed his aching left rib area while thinking about what to do next.
Unfortunately for him, Siegfried was sharp and the guy didn't give him any chance to breathe and think of a new battle plan.
*PAH* *PAH* *PAH* *PAH* *PAH* *PAH* *PAH* *PAH* *PAH*
Their swords clashed for more than ten times and each time, it was Shye who got the advantage as Siegfried was pushed back bit by bit after every clash.
Shye inwardly breathed a sigh of relief. If he couldn't get the advantage in terms of raw strength even after using a greatsword, then he's in big trouble.
