Chapter 278: High-Grade, Unique Gemstones
[Congratulations! You've learned [(Semi-Passive) Blade of Despair (Unique)]!]
Shye smiled upon seeing the notification in front of him.
Since he had nothing to do, he decided to learn the skill. It was just a few taps away anyway.
Refocusing on the twelfth item, it was yet another skill book, however, it was for archers so Shye quickly lost interest.
Mastering two classes is already difficult for him, so for now, he wouldn't entertain the notion of adding another subclass.
For a period, the auction grew rather dull for Shye as the thirteenth to seventeenth auction items held little usefulness for him, making him question Seira's "rumors".
Fortunately, the items he expected to appear didn't remain a rumor for too long.
"Up next, our 18th item comprises four pieces of high-grade, unique gemstones." Liu Meixiu enthusiastically introduced, her right hand working to open a small chest, revealing four shiny gemstones of different hues inside.
Gently grabbing one of the four gemstones—the red one, Liu Meixiu alluringly looked at the audience.
"This here is a high-grade inferno stone, capable of incinerating foes to mere ashes once used to enhance one's weapon. Moreover, it can also be used to enchant pieces of armor, allowing one to gain additional fire resistance, and possibly, an activatable flame shield." Liu Meixiu proudly announced, causing the average adventurer in attendance to gasp in shock.
They could only dream of obtaining such a precious gemstone as their coin reserves are now either low or empty.
As for the stronger ones like Larzen, their eyes were ablaze with the desire to obtain the gemstone set—some of them were even willing to use all of their silver coin reserves.
Witnessing the enthusiasm and desire burning in the eyes of the audience, Auctioneer Meixiu swiftly followed up, explaining the effects of the other three gemstones.
Gently returning the high-grade inferno stone to its rightful spot inside the small chest, she grabbed the bluish-white one.
She then raised it, allowing people to admire its beauty.
"Let's move on to the next gemstone, a high-grade, absolute-zero glacierstone." the auctioneer began, pausing masterfully for a few seconds before proceeding to patiently unfold its effects to the auction's enamored guests.
"This gemstone, albeit a bit smaller than the inferno stone, isn't the least bit lesser in terms of potency. Best used to enchant elemental staffs and all kinds of bows, the absolute-zero glacierstone will be able to provide a huge ice elemental boost. However, this doesn't mean that one cannot use the gemstone to enchant melee weapons and armor pieces."
Returning the bluish-white gemstone to its spot inside the miniature chest, Meixiu took the third one and showcased it in the same manner as the first two.
"This right here is a high-grade earthcore gemstone, although generally not advisable for weapon enchantment, this gemstone boasts the greatest of defensive bonuses when used to enchant various armor pieces. Moreover, since this piece is large, it can be used to enhance two pieces of equipment."
At this point, the hearts of the adventurers were already racing wildly, screaming at them to obtain the prized gemstone set.
Liu Meixiu didn't allow them to relax though, further agitating their already raging hearts by taking out the last gemstone, raising it high with an alluring yet proud smile on her face.
"Now, let us proceed to the star product of our four-piece, high-grade gemstone set. This one is a high-grade expelvoid stone, most lethal when used to enchant swords, daggers, bows, and void gauntlets. Albeit inefficient when used to enchant armor pieces, it is the epitome of offensive enchantments."
"Are there any questions?" Liu Meixiu inquired, scanning her eyes over the crowd. "Since there are none, then let the bidding commence! The price shall start at 50,000 silver coins with increments of 1,000."
"55,000!"
"68,000!"
"75,000!"
Immediately after the auctioneer finished her piece, a fierce bidding war erupted, causing utter chaos at the venue as myriad voices drowned each other out, trying to outbid their competition.
Liu Meixiu and the organizers of the auction event simply beamed at the vibrant sight.
They're aware that once the price reaches a certain threshold, adventurers with fewer funds will inevitably withdraw, restoring order to the chaotic auction.
Sure enough, after the price reached a hundred and twenty silver coins, only five remained in contention, including the woman who obtained the slave, Larzen, and Shye.
"124,000!"
"130,000!"
Hearing Shye's familiar grating voice, Larzen clenched his fists in anger.
'This bastard still has the reserves to bid for this gemstone set?!' he inwardly raged, struggling to believe that someone who couldn't even afford a VIP room would have the money to continuously make trouble for him.
"135,000!"
"140,000!"
"145,000!"
"148,000!"
"150,000!"
After the gemstone set exceeded 150,000 silver coins, the other two bidders, including the woman, withdrew. Now, only the three original bidders for the unique-tier warrior skill remained: the gentleman in room twenty-seven, Shye, and Larzen.
The fierce bidding war continued until the price went up to 165,000, causing Larzen to almost rampage inside his VIP room.
The price of the item had now far exceeded its perceived value, after all.
Larzen thought that since most of his competitors already used their money on the earlier items, it would be easy for him to obtain this gemstone set.
However, who would've thought that the loathsome middle-aged man in room thirty-six still had silver coins?
'This guy probably doesn't plan to bid on the last item…' Larzen inwardly deduced.
He had to obtain at least one of the crafting materials from (S) tier monstrous creatures, hence, he had no choice but to give the gemstone setup.
Realizing that he would've probably obtained the gemstone set if he had opted for a super deluxe room, Larzen clenched his fists so hard that his nails started to dig into the skin of his palms.
Regrettably, there was no medicine for regret.
Thus, for a whopping 168,000 silver coins, the four-piece, high-grade gemstone set once again ended up in Shye's hands.
