Chapter 135: Another Idiot
Finally, after around one and a half hours of light-minded wandering, he found the shop he was looking for, Hephaestus' Armaments.
'Hmm…Even this branch seemed to be larger than the one in Colzen City…' Shye thought as he extended his right hand and opened the door.
"Welcome to Hephaestus Armaments! I'm Shopkeeper Alice. How can I help you?" The shopkeeper greeted with a wide smile and the right amount of enthusiasm, making Shye feel welcomed as he entered the renowned equipment shop.
"Hello, I'm here to enchant my weapons with these gemsto–"
"Hmmph! A student from Colzen, the trashy academy huh? Well, will you move out of the way or do I have to do it myself? A piss poor student from a piss poor academy wouldn't have much money anyway so get out of my face before you humiliate yourself."
A young recently graduated adventurer arrogantly said, forcefully cutting off Shye's words.
The young adventurer then rudely pushed him to the sides and brought out two pieces of equipment along with ten pieces of lesser-grade enchantment gemstones.
Shye furrowed his brows as he coldly looked at the arrogant young adventurer.
"Hello shopkeeper, I'm Arnold Parker, a recent top 20 graduate from Eusford Adventurer Academy and I would like to upgrade these two pieces of equipment into a low-grade relic please."
Although it seemed like Arnold was just arrogantly showing off by saying that he was a top 20 graduate from one of the top 3 academies, Eusford Adventurer Academy, his words had a deeper meaning.
He was reminding the shopkeeper to give him the discounted price which was a privilege of the top 20 graduates of each course from the top four academies.
Naturally, their discount only applies to all Hephaestus' Armaments branches in Valenzia Region.
Arnold was far from being capable enough to be able to participate in the Valenzia Region's Adventurer Academy competition when it was their generation's turn but that reason wasn't enough for him to not be arrogant.
In his petty little mind, everyone should make way for the ranked graduates of the top three academies and such a puny Colzen Academy student should naturally step aside for someone as great as him, representative or not.
Shye was about to speak out but fortunately, he didn't have to as the shopkeepers of Hephaestus Armaments acted like true professionals.
"I apologize sir Arnold but this sir here arrived first and as per our shop's protocols, I have to process his transaction first"
Shopkeeper Alice said as she deeply bowed towards Arnold, a sincere apologetic look plastered on her face.
Just as Shye expected, pretentious frauds like these Arnold hated being humiliated the most so the guy decided to make a scene in the shop, bothering even those who were simply browsing.
"Do my ears deceive me? A little shopkeeper from a little Windleton City dares to not make an exception for me? A Eusford Academy graduate? Unbelievable!"
Arnold scoffed as he spoke loudly planning to humiliate Shye and the shopkeeper by attracting as much attention as possible before continuing:
"Hah! Alright then. You! The student from Colzen Trashcademy! Process your transaction first and let everyone see how important your transaction is!" The loathsome bastard said as he coldly smiled towards Shye.
If Shye's transaction was indeed too little compared to Arnold's transaction of two low-grade relic enchantments worth 3000 coins, then he was bound to be humiliated although he was the one who was in the right.
As for Shye, he looked around before responding.
'It seems that at least a thousand people including those from the outside were attracted by this idiot's loud voice.' Shye thought inwardly before turning his attention back to Arnold.
Seeing that Shye went silent after his dare, Arnold grew more confident, eager to see Shye's moment of humiliation.
Shye inwardly sneered upon realizing that this guy didn't even have any second thoughts about humiliating another person no matter how petty the reason was.
Thus, Shye decided to teach the idiot a lesson he will never forget, while…Earning as much as he could in the process.
"Hmmph! There is no benefit in competing with you so I shall make our deal private!" Shye said, pretending that he would use the confidential transaction option for an additional cost of 100 silver coins.
Naturally, Arnold viewed this as Shye trying to escape the trap he laid out and immediately replied:
"Hahahaha! I say your transaction is just too puny! Could it be that the 100 silver coins you would pay for the confidential transaction would be more expensive than your actual transaction? Hahahaha!"
Arnold mocked, attempting to hinder Shye from using the confidential transaction option.
Shye secretly smiled after hearing Arnold's reply. He then faked an angry expression and doubled down on his initial point.
"Hmmph! Just like I said, there is nothing to gain from competing with you so why should I bother?!" Shye said, his voice "slightly cracking" in "nervousness".
Realizing that Shye was trying so hard to escape, Arnold immediately cut off his path of retreat.
"Hah! There's nothing to gain in competing with me? Fine! If your transaction proved to be greater than mine then I shall give you all of these along with 3000 silver coins to pay for the upgrade! However, if your transaction proved to be lesser, then you have to kowtow to me three times, kiss both of my feet and curse the name of Colzen Academy! What do you say?!"
Arnold loudly proclaimed, the smile on his face growing wider and wider after seeing that Shye seemed to be breathing heavily, looking utterly uncomfortable.
Unbeknownst to him, Shye was already inwardly laughing at his stupidity as he successfully baits another stupid one into giving him free items and money.
Still, Shye had to make sure that he would get the goods or his act was all for nothing.
"H-Hmpph! How would I b-be s-sure that you w-will not renege on the bet?!" Shye said, panic slightly evident on his face though he seemed to be trying to suppress it.
Of course, Arnold wouldn't let a cornered prey go so he didn't think too much and did something he would truly regret doing.
