Chapter 113: Flaw
"Everyone! Keep up the pace! No need to force things, in a few more minutes this grunt would die on its own!" Shye said in a loud voice to remind his party members to remain careful until the end.
It was pretty evident that the orc grunt, although in a berserk state, was having a hard time finishing one of them off due to their impeccable teamwork.
Sure, the orc sends them flying occasionally, making them spit out blood, but with a single [Contact Casting] heal from Wendy, it was as if their internal and external wounds never happened so as long as they fight the berserk grunt carefully and not allow it to one shot them, everything should be fine.
Unfortunately, their battle plan was about to be ruined as heavy footsteps sounded from the nearby shrubbery.
"Ian, can you check what that sound is?" Shye said as he took a glance at Ian before focusing on the berserk orc again.
"Yeah, leave it to me"
Under party leader Shye's orders, Ian Izanagi, the scout of the party, used one of his skills, [Enhanced Senses Lv.2], to check what was going on behind the shrubbery.
Ian's pupils constricted upon realizing what was going on.
Another towering bipedal creature with the same green skin, bulging muscles, and lodestone axe was madly sprinting toward their location.
"Shit! Crowley! The other orc grunt is here!" Ian said as he looked towards Shye, waiting for instructions from their party leader.
'Tch! Well, it's about time it noticed the commotion...' Shye inwardly thought as he calmly analyzed the situation.
Wendy was located right behind him, the two of them were the closest ones to the dying berserk orc while Kiin, Siegfried, Ian, David, and Harry were the ones in an optimal position to fight the healthy rushing orc.
It would be a disaster if they tried to fight this orc grunt duo together so it would be better to separate the two.
The dying orc would only last for about ten minutes anyway so he thought that he and Wendy could lure it away and take it out while the other five work together to try and fight the other orc grunt.
'Yeah, I guess that's the best course of action right now.'
*BANG*
After narrowly dodging the berserk orc's attack by leaning to the side, Shye took a few steps back and looked at his party members before saying:
"Here's the plan, Me and Wendy shall take out this dying orc while the five of you work together to fight the healthy one!" Shye urgently said.
There was no time to hesitate so he immediately used [Rush Stab Lv.2] to not only dodge the berserk orc's downward chop but also to deal a bit of damage to it.
*ROAAAR*
Naturally, the dying berserk orc was enraged, it quickly tried to grab Shye with its free hand but Shye was faster as he was sprinting madly in another direction with Wendy after instantly escaping from the orc's attack range using [Dash Lv.3].
Upon realization that the most hateful human out of the seven, the one it wanted to kill the most was fleeing, the orc furiously roared before chasing the human.
Its rationality was long gone due to the berserk state so it failed to realize that working together with the healthy orc grunt would be the best way to take out a few humans with it.
Seeing the berserk orc madly chasing them, Shye was satisfied.
This way, the other five party members would be safer, though, he still had to figure out how to either hold out long enough for the berserk orc to die or if they can manage to, finish it off.
At worst, he could choose to fight the orc alone if fighting it two-on-one would put Wendy in danger. He wasn't overestimating himself but it's just his sense of responsibility as a party leader, making him want to ensure the safety of his members over his own.
He decided to just think of a solution on the fly.
After around three minutes of running at full speed, the orc finally caught up to the two of them.
Still, that's three minutes off the clock so they just had to hold out for seven more minutes. The problem is...How?
*CLANG*
Once again, Shye was sent sliding back for a few meters as he clashed directly with the berserk orc. Fortunately, Wendy's strength and agility blessing was finally off cooldown so he had another 40 seconds to think of a solution while fighting the orc.
'Think! Think!' Shye thought as his eyes took every chance they could get to glance at the surroundings in hopes of finding something that could help them out.
*CLANG* *CLANG* *CLANG*
Shye clashed with the orc multiple times and his arms were starting to feel numb, he had to think of a solution, and fast.
Fortunately, 20 seconds before the blessings ran out, Shye noticed something.
During their clashes, the orc seemed uncomfortable lingering on a certain spot, the area where the sunlight pierced through the leafless part of a tree.
Although the orc was fine fighting in that area for a few seconds, it immediately left the spot whenever it had the chance to.
'Does it hate sunlight? Why?' After realizing this weird behavior, Shye had an idea.
He quickly glanced at Wendy and said: "Wendy! Cast a barrier on me when I give the signal!" before dodging a deadly strike and rushing towards the spot with sunlight.
"Got it!"
Naturally, the berserk orc chased Shye as he ran to the spot with sunlight, then, once he arrived, he quickly turned around to face the orc and said: "Wendy! Now!"
*SHING*
A small but thick barrier covered Shye as the orc used its skill again [Brutish Slash] to chop him in half.
*CRACK*
Even Wendy's thick barrier failed to completely block the orc's skill-empowered attack as it cracked and was finally destroyed after taking the brunt of the orc's strike.
Fortunately, the barrier was enough to let Shye follow through with his experiment. Immediately after the barrier was destroyed, Shye used [Dash Lv.3] to dash past the orc.
Then, under the majestic rays of sunlight, he used [Power Slash Lv.3] to try and cut through the orc's right leg as he passed through the brute using his dash skill, hoping that he could at least inflict a deep wound on the orc's leg making it hard for the grunt to move.
*SPURT*
To his surprise, the orc's entire leg...
