Chapter 543: 542 Refusal
Chapter 543: 542 Refusal
The next day, Wen Ran didn’t go to the office.
Early in the morning, when Mo Xiuchen woke up, she was still asleep.
Thinking about her rejection in the middle of the night, a hint of gloom fell into his deep eyes again.
He did it on purpose.
Testing her intentionally, irresponsibly hoping that his suspicions and speculations were unfounded.
Hoping that Ranran’s situation was not as bad.
But the reality…
He asked her why, she said she wasn’t feeling well.
He stifled the invisible yet unstoppable pain in his heart quietly.
He didn’t want to wake her up, so he got out of bed, dressed up, washed up, and went downstairs…
In the master bedroom behind him,
Wen Ran slowly opened her eyes only when his footsteps faded away in the corridor.
Her clear and watery eyes, completely devoid of sleepiness, stared at the door.
After a moment, they were covered with a thin layer of mist.
Thinking about what happened midway through the night, she felt a suffocating pain at her heart again.
She held the quilt tightly with both hands.
Recalling the loneliness Mo Xiuchen appeared to feel as he left her last night, even his handsome silhouette seemed lonely. Her heart ached with unspeakable sorrow, as if being tugged back and forth by a thin rope.
If possible, why would she reject him.
But she can’t keep rejecting him forever, her Mo Xiuchen is too astute, she can’t possibly deceive him.
She couldn’t find a reason to keep neglecting her duties. An idea flashed through her mind but she immediately dismissed it.
Just as she was deep in thought, the sound of footsteps suddenly echoed at the door again. Her open eyes immediately closed. The next second, the door was pushed open. The footsteps were familiar.
Not long after, a cool and pleasant masculine scent invaded her senses. Her heartbeat accelerated uncontrollably in the presence of the scent.
“Ranran!”
He murmured softly, his gentleness causing her heart to quiver.
His deep eyes held her with an aching look. Wen Ran felt her heart tightening and didn’t dare to move.
Mo Xiuchen stared at her sleeping face, his hand slid under the quilt, gently held her warm hand, and said as if talking to himself: “Ranran, last night, I’m sorry.”
Wen Ran’s heart tightened again, silently replying, ‘It’s my fault, not yours.’
He paused for a moment, then his voice became softer and gentler: “Ranran, even though I don’t know why you suddenly resist being intimate with me, I believe you have your reasons. I shouldn’t have let my longing for you overpower me. Next time, I won’t do this anymore. I will patiently wait until you are willing to share with me, or, until you no longer resist me. Really, I will wait for you.”
Wen Ran was startled. He said all these words, could it be, did he know that she was pretending to sleep?
But, she didn’t want to open her eyes, she didn’t know how to face him now if she did.
She continued to pretend to sleep.
It seemed like Mo Xiuchen didn’t need her response. He continued to speak: “You sleep now, I’ll go to the office. At noon, I’ll come back to have lunch with you.”
Wen Ran really wanted to open her eyes and look at him, tell him not to be sad.
She hoped he would be happy.
“Ranran.”
He gazed at her face, at the trembling lashes on her face. It was enough for him that she was still by his side.
“Ranran, I love you, I love you very much.”
…
Mo Xiuchen stayed and chatted with her for a few minutes before letting go of her hand. With her eyes closed, she felt him gaze at her for a long time before he reluctantly left.
As soon as the door closed, his departing footsteps followed after. The pressure in her heart turned into a surge of heat overflowing over her nose and up to her eyes.
As her vision blurred, she looked at the door. Mo Xiuchen’s words kept echoing in her ears. He said he won’t be like last night, he will wait patiently for her.
But, she didn’t dare anymore!
She suddenly realized that her decision to stay, it was a wrong one.
Knowing they couldn’t be together yet unable to bear leaving, she felt so selfish. She was really very selfish. He is a normal man. Perhaps he could survive without a sexual life in the past, but now, it was different.
She should leave him for a healthy woman to love him, rather than stay and remain untouchable for him…
She sniffed hard, got up, got off the bed, and went to the closet for clothes. Her tear-filled eyes revealed a determination and resolution, this time, she would force herself not to be indecisive again.
After dressing and washing up, Wen Ran didn’t immediately go downstairs. Instead, she stood in her half-year old room, scanning every inch of the space with lingering eyes.
It was as if she wanted to engrave all these memories. After leaving this time, she would never come back.
After a long while, she wiped away her tears, smiled strongly into the mirror and encouraged herself: “Wen Ran, love doesn’t have to mean possession, it can also mean letting go. Without you, he can still go on perfectly.”
If staying was harming him, why couldn’t she let go?
She pursed her lips tightly, turned around, and walked away firmly. However, she stopped in her tracks in the stairwell. The man sitting on the sofa in the living room was none other than Mo Xiuchen, who had said he was going to the office!
Surprise flashed through Wen Ran’s eyes as she stared at the man rising from his seat…
