Chapter 42 More Danger
42 More Danger
Northern Barren Land.
Qilin Crossing village stood as a solitary sentinel at the boundary of the vast Northern Barren Land and the seemingly endless expanse of the desert that stretched beyond the limits of mortal sight.
It was a place where two worlds met, where the harsh, unforgiving terrain of the Barren Land gave way to the relentless sands of the desert.
Narrow pathways wound their way through the village, with stalls and marketplaces lining the streets, offering a mesmerizing array of goods from both the Barren Land and the desert.
At the heart of Qilin Crossing, an ancient well stood as a lifeline for the villagers and travelers alike. Its water, though meager, was a source of life in this unforgiving terrain.
Then, in the midst of this desolation, something extraordinary occurred. At the heart of the desert, where nothing but shifting sands had existed, a mysterious ruin city emerged from the depths of the ground.
It was as if an ancient civilization had been buried beneath the sands for millennia, waiting for the opportune moment to reveal itself.
The ruin city was a sprawling metropolis of crumbling stone structures, ornate pillars, and intricate carvings.
Its architecture was a testament to a long-lost era, its grandeur now a stark contrast to the barrenness of the desert.
Towering temples, collapsed marketplaces, and dilapidated homes formed the city's intricate maze, each structure whispering secrets of the past.
But as the ruin city emerged, a haunting and primal cry echoed from its depths. It was a bestial and otherworldly sound, a call that seemed to summon creatures hidden within the city's long- forgotten catacombs.
The cry reverberated throughout the desert, sending shivers down the spines of those who heard it, as if awakening ancient guardians or calling forth long-dormant spirits.
Southern Barren Land.
On a medium-sized boat, Huang Yin stood at the edge of the boat and looked at the eerie calm sea with deep worry etched on her face.
Even though she tried to stay calm, the panic in her brother's voice wouldn't leave her mind. She took a deep breath for the umpteenth time and turned her head to the side, only to see Su Yen smile.
Seeing his smile, the slight panic in her mind lessened a bit. Although she wasn't aware of how strong Su Yen was, her intuition told her that he was extremely strong.
"Worrying doesn't suit your pretty face. Relax," Su Yen said, moving closer to her.
"Your brother is still alive, and we're going to bring him home." His voice was laced with unparalleled confidence that shocked Huang Yin for a moment.
"Are you this confident about everything or just pretending?" She couldn't help but ask.
"Why would I need to pretend? I'd rather not do something or do it with everything I've got," he responded, reaching out to hold her hand. "Therefore, since I'm here, everything will be fine."
Listening to this, Huang Yin couldn't help but relax and rest her head on his shoulder, whispering, "Thank you."
The couple stood on the boat, looking at the reflection of the yellow sun on the sea surface. Suddenly, they heard a strong tide of waves coming from a distance and a voice filled with panic.
"Faster! Faster!" A voice screamed with deep fear.
Before Huang Yin and Su Yen could process what was going on, they saw a half-destroyed ship sailing at great speed toward them.
On the pirate ship, only a couple of people were on the deck, with fresh blood splattered everywhere. Behind them was a massive beast, the Warlock Shark.
The Warlock Sharks were beasts that hunted their targeted prey relentlessly. They were persistent, vengeful, and moved in groups. Killing a single Warlock Shark would make you an enemy of the school of sharks.
However, Warlock Sharks rarely came to the surface and didn't randomly hunt humans. It was an iron rule on the sea never to hunt a Warlock Shark.
Thus, watching a Warlock Shark in hot pursuit left Huang Yin speechless. "Are these pirates crazy enough to hunt a Warlock Shark?" She said in dismay.
Just then, the pirates saw Huang Yin and Su Yen and started screaming. "Help us..."
Hearing this, Huang Yin didn't bat an eye and controlled the boat to take another route from the pirates. However, what she heard next made her crease her brow.
"The sea beasts have gone berserk, and they're hunting everything in their path," the pirate captain yelled, trying to get Huang Yin and Su Yen's attention.
"What do you mean they've gone berserk?" Su Yen asked.
"Help us kill the Warlock Shark, and I'll tell you everything I know," he responded quickly as he watched the shark getting closer.
Whoosh!
Bang!
Before the pirate captain could complete his sentence, Huang Yin attacked with her whip. The attack was so fast that no one saw it coming.
Seeing the blue blood floating on the sea surface, the pirates' hearts froze for a moment, with gasps escaping from their mouths.
"What a fierce woman?" they thought.
"Will you start talking or do you want to follow after the Warlock Shark?" Huang Yin asked, her voice laced with bone-chilling coldness.
The pirate captain swallowed the lump in his throat and quickly narrated everything he knew about the sudden change on the southern sea.
"Now, let us go. I've told you everything we knew," the Pirate captain said, his voice laced with nervousness.
As for Huang Yin, she didn't bat an eye at the pirate and turned to look at Su Yen. Seeing her gaze, Su Yen shook his head and smiled. "There is something extraordinary and dangerous going on... We need to find the source before it gets too late," he said before looking at the pirates. "You know the path. Lead the way," he commanded, leaving no room for argument.
Listening to this, the pirates wanted to cry, but there were no tears in their eyes. Left with no choice, they turned their ship around and led them with fearful expressions.
As they traveled for another couple of miles, various sea beasts began to attack their ships as if they had gone mad.
However, the pirates had nothing to fear as Huang Yin dealt with everything easily.
Finally, after killing many sea beasts, they arrived in a calm western location of the sea.
The location was eerily calm, with no sea beasts around. It was as if the previous brutal attack from the sea beasts had scared them away.
"This is the place... You can go in if you want, but..." The pirate captain said with his heart racing. 'Please let us go. Please, I don't want to die.'
"Then what are you waiting for? Lead the way," Su Yen said calmly.
